i bet you also only played it once.
if so, i strongly recommend playing it more then once.
try different things like going 100% non-lethal and/or not buying dark vision, this along with trying to never be seen actually makes the game pretty challenging.
but, hey, you just might not like puzzle/stealth games if so thats ok.
I've always hated the 'self-imposed challenges make the game better!' argument. Back on Gamecube, I played RE4 so much that i had to buy a second copy because the first one stopped working. I played it every which way, including several knife only runs. I didn't do it because the game was boring or too easy, so I need to find a new way to challenge myself of add enjoyment. I did it because I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to enjoy it every way possible.
It's a subtle, but very important distinction. A good game is fun EVERY way you play.
Yeah, having to impose restrictions on your own game play to get entertainment from the product is just extremely poor gameplay design.
