It adds diversity to the class. It means i can still go close range on enemies that i'm strong against like snipers, medics, spies, etc. Whist being able to hold back other enemies that will be able to kill me pretty easily if they are be played right, Heavy, demo, soldier. Why not think about that. It's an extremely useful little weapon to have if used properly.

#59911 - carchariasthefurry (06/28/2012) [-]
It could already do that with the flare gun, which did more damage and didn't push a target out of range.
User avatar
#60176 - cygnuswithasmile (06/28/2012) [-]
It does do knockback but out of range? really? it pushes them about 3 feet, not 3 miles. your flamethrower can still reach them. Plus you can kinda do this magical thing called 'moving', this wonderful technique will allow you to remain in range. Also you're forgetting that knockback can be used to push things off of ledges, that's just easy kills right there. See a group of enemies trying to come around the point on a ledge? Just knock em all off with this. Until we see this in action and used properly we're not going to see how effective it is, so quit your bitching and saying that 'oh, Robin Walker is gay for soldier!' You know why the soldier's new weapon sucks? Because if they ever use that up against a Pyro then all you have to do is time your airblast and they now have three rockets headed back towards them instead of one. It's a terrible weapon from that standpoint.
User avatar
#60190 - carchariasthefurry (06/28/2012) [-]
Well, if you are constantly moving towards them to keep in range, why are you pushing them backwards in the first place? All you end up doing is less damage.

Pushing things off ledges is incredibly situational and will do fuck all in most scenarios, especially if it only pushes three feet like you said.

Robin Walker is gay for Soldier, notice how he gets the most and coolest shit. Even when it doesn't make any sense like the Dr. Grorgborts update when he got a new rocket launcher when it should have been all about the Engineer, who only got a new wrench and shotgun. Also, don't forget the Valve Rocket Launcher.

Well, i don't know about you but when the objective is infront of me, that's the way i'd like to go, so pushing the enemy back so i can move forward makes a whole lot of sense to me.
Of course it's situational, but you can change your loadout in game to suit each section of a map so it's about equipping the right equipment at the right time.
Personally i think the soldier has always been underpowered. The rocket launcher does do a bunch of damage yeh, but it's innacurate and reloading leaves you way open to attack. The way i see it, Valve have always been trying to balance the soldier because it's a pretty weak class in my opinion.

Really? I think it would be a lot better for my team if they were dead and not defending the objective.
"Of course it's situational, but you can change your loadout in game to suit each section of a map so it's about equipping the right equipment at the right time."
Yeah, but it's not like someone standing on a cliff is going to stand there and wait for you to change your loadout and run to the supply locker.

It's a class with 200 HP that fires flying exploding pieces of metal and can use said flying explosive pieces of metal to soar through the air and reach hights nobody else can. That and the huge arsenal of weapons at his disposal, certainly don't make him underpowered.

It can also be used to push enemies away from the objective, but you never considered that.
You're not thinking about the layout of the map before you choose your loadout clearly.
'Can reach heights no one else can'... Demo man? Soldier has 200 hp, consider that it's also the only class where you are advised to actually hurt yourself to get into tactical positions (clearly people don't know demo can do this too...), really it's only a 100 hp class because that's all you'll probably have left after rocket jumps. Those flying pieces of metal are really easy to avoid, even for heavy. They have an incredibly slow air speed. "Huge arsenal of weapons" Since when might i ask? You have a rocket launcher, and a different kind of rocket launcher, and another rocket launcher, OH and Guess what? another rocket launcher! It's not a huge arsenal, it's just slightly different versions of the same thing.

It is better to push away an enemy. If they die then they come back with full ammo and health. I push them back then they won't have full ammo or health, meaning they'll be less likely to try and push forward as much until they find some ammo and health packs.
Demo can reach the same places because i've done it, you place some stickies on the ground, jump above them and detonate. I've been able to jump twice as high as i can with soldier doing this.
Without rocket jumping the soldier doesn't really have much going for them.
Most people do lose that much because they normally do it multiple times.
Splash damage is great and all, but if the rocket sails passed me and hits a wall 30 feet away and i'm still taking damage from it, yeh, i'll probably be a little pissed. Everything the soldier has is a variant of the standard weapons, just like every. other.class.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOs1v22rvxk See how it takes three rocket jumps from the soldier to get up top but only one for demoman, on regular maps the demo man will be able to get to the same places as the soldier.
Ok, i forgot about respawn times, mainly because i play on a server which just doesn't have any.
Equally you're implying that every soldier can aim, since i've been able to dodge more guys than the ones who have been able to hit me then i'd say less can aim than cannot.
Every class has changes to the weapons though, the snipers gets a bow and arrow for fuck sake, that doesn't handle much like the sniper but it's still essentially a precision weapon.
I didn't comment on those weapons and unlocks because i haven't played enough as soldier to really comment on them, i generally play other classes.
And no, you are quite clearly singling out the soldier on this, the scout gets some pretty good gear as does the sniper. The scouts pistol means he never takes fall damage, seriously, no fall damage, you don't think that's at all OP. Ok... The sniper is getting stuff which pretty much mean they are going to be able to get crtical hits all the time, but that's not worth pointing out at all. Nope, instead we shall pick on the soldier, because you clearly hate the soldier.
Did you think to notice that the soldier's weapon has a chance to blow up in their face? that they can't get more ammo from dispensers? That it is nearly impossible to aim because it won't go towards where you're aiming anyway? But no, this weapon is clearly completely overpowered and unbalanced and should be removed from the game because the soldier gets it!
I would normally think that this was just an opinion, but because you have singled out the soldier as having the best gear, when he clearly doesn't, you do just sound incredibly butthurt that the soldier is getting new gear in general.
#60839 - carchariasthefurry (06/28/2012) [-]
You are seriously getting too wrapped up in this.

Anyway, most Soldiers can aim, because with guns, you need to aim.

The scout and sniper got fuck all. The scout can already negate falling damage while double jumping, and the new scattergun makes him go slower until he can hit something. Going fast is his main defense, so when you can't run quickly, jump, or do a lot of damage you are a siting duck. The sniper lost out because his main weapon gets rid of his peripheral vision, making it harder to pick out targets efficiently. He also has an SMG which is even weaker than the stock one, but gives critical hits after the target is dead which is completely useless. I already stated why it would be a death sentence going against multiple enemies which is what they had in mind for it. You would know this if you scrolled up slightly before arguing.

I don't hate the soldier, it's one of my most played classes, I just think that Valve is unfairly charitable towards it.

Also, just because someone as thick as you might forget to let go of the mouse button so it would blow up in your face does not make it balanced. Ammo crates and supply cabinets still exist too.

I am not saying it should be removed from the game because the soldier gets it, I am saying it should be re-balanced. If the scout got a scattergun which could fire several shells at once, or the medic got a double healing beam, I would say it should be balanced out but not removed because of personal bias.

Attack the idea, not the person genius. I have been saying "these are the reasons why it is unbalanced" and you have been spewing "you are just butthurt and don't like soldier" while continuously spouting anecdotal evidence which in no way applies to everyone else, or even you a majority of the time. Think before you type.

I'm getting too wrapped in this? Both of us are spewing paragraohs about how the other is in someway wrong.
The scout would still move slightly faster than most classes, not as fast as he should, but if people can use the weapon to their advantage then they should. The SMG is more a sidegrade than a direct upgrade. Due to lower fire rate it's going to recoil less which is pretty useful for a precision class and some people will probably find a use for this, plus the 3 seconds of critical hits on kill will make it more effective on small groups than the standard SMG in my opinion.
Now slandering, is that really what you've lowered yourself to? Here's a better idea for balancing the rocket launcher, for every rocket charged then the damage output for each is equal to the standard rocket divided by the number of rockets charged. The thing is entirely innacurate and the lack of being able to use dispensers would put people off of the weapon so much.
Let's be honest here, when you open your argument with"PYRO GETS FUCKALL, SOLDIER GETS THE BEST SHIT AGAIN" You are going to come across as being whiny, whither you wanted to or not, you did. So you should be able to see why i'm thinking that you are just being butthurt over this. It also doesn't really matter what i say because your answer to practically everything in short has been 'No you're wrong and i'm right!' Seriously, are you that immature? Most Soldiers in TF2 can't aim. Just like most Pyros can't spy check and most medics can't get to uber, because the game is F2P. That means there is constantly new people coming into the game and not having a clue what is going on. Most of the community there isn't die hard fans, just people that looked into the game because they didn't have to pay for it. You might not like it, but it's the truth.

Anyone that could aim could easily kill the scout in this severely handicapped state.

Taking on multiple people with the default SMG is bad enough, doing it with one with less ammo that fires slower will get you killed. I am not sure what part you aren't getting.

You can have any idea for balancing the rocket launcher you want, doesn't change the fact that it isn't balanced now.

Saying everything is fine and balanced just because people lack skill is a strawman argument. I am saying the weapon is too powerful, and just because the people wielding it might be bad, doesn't mean it still isn't too powerful.

Pyro just got some goofy reskins and one new weapon that does basically nothing. It knocks people back from a close quarters class. You could say it ignites multiple people, but the detonator already does that while still doing standard damage and having minicrits on flaming targets. It's the same thing we already have, but a small stat change for people that can't hit buttons at the right time, woohoo.

You honestly think they are going to give something to the Pyro that can beat an Unreal Tournament rocket launcher? The same thing is going to happen, Robin Walker is gay for soldier so it will get all the cool shit and will never get nerfed. It's just going to be more W+M1 bullshit and give no reason not to just go Axtinguisher again.
