It's boring mate so I give up.

For the record when he said "it doesn't mean that you're "scared of them"."

I never suggested that. I'm saying most homophobic people are scared by the idea that they themselves maybe gay and therefore be as anti gay as possible to make themselves believe it.

User avatar #57 - captainfuckitall (06/28/2015) [-]
And he said 'homophobia' didn't necessarily mean that and was just a blanket term for prejudice.

secession from the union on the grounds of not being allowed to own slaves.

oh wait, no, "southern pride".

I guess there's no such thing as gay pride. or a sense of humor, which was the point of an isis flag made of dildos.
User avatar #70 - captainfuckitall (06/28/2015) [-]
Actually, there were many reasons for the secession. Owning slaves was such a small bit of it that it wasn't even funny. Around 10% of Southerns owned 90% of slaves, because slaves were incredibly expensive and often bought to work large fields, not by the common man, so the average Joe didn't give two shits about slavery.

Not only that, but Abraham Lincoln himself ALSO didn't give a shit about slaves, saying that if if allowing people to keep slaves would keep America whole, he would do it.
User avatar #71 - rockerforlife (06/28/2015) [-]
Look buddy, you could take a VERY VERY empirical approach to it and say that the Civil War wasn't about slavery, but you'd be wasting your time with that fallacy. The South was PISSED that the union was trying to cut in on their slave business (kinda like today with climate change), so they threatened to secede and then the question of state's rights was brought into question (thanks to slavery). But you're right, the only people in the south that slavery affected were bigwigs: plantation owners and people working in the slave trade/business. Average joes lived in backwoods for the most part, that accounts for the population numbers and they rightfully didn't give a shit because it didn't affect them. That is until Southern politicans' stood on the platform of "THE NORTH IS TRYING TO CUT IN ON OUR ECONOMICS AND WE CAN'T HAVE IT" (Economics=slavery) source: i'm working towards my history major.

Also you're lying through your teeth about Lincoln. The following are all Lincoln quotes:

"I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong. I can not remember when I did not so think, and feel." The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume VII, "Letter to Albert G. Hodges" (April 4, 1864), p. 281.

"I think slavery is wrong, morally, and politically. I desire that it should be no further spread in these United States, and I should not object if it should gradually terminate in the whole Union." The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume III, "Speech at Cincinnati, Ohio" (September 17, 1859), p. 440.

"In giving freedom to the slave, we assure freedom to the free - honorable alike in what we give, and what we preserve. We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth. Other means may succeed; this could not fail. The way is plain, peaceful, generous, just - a way which, if followed, the world will forever applaud, and God must forever bless." Lincoln's Second Annual Message to Congress, December 1, 1862.

Arrogance: "having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities.".

Clearly states that the person feels like they're shit, just slightly less shit than a lot of other people. Arrogance doesn't really apply here.

What about a fucking pride parade offends you, I mean really!? Theres people being shot up and stabbed and bombed everyday and a few flamboyant gays being fabulous offends you? You don't have to go watch it do you? Grow the fuck up.

For a lot of gays, even in 'progressive' countries , they still receive abuse regularly so any sort of anti-homophobia protest is still relevant and welcome in my, and any sane persons, books.
User avatar #33 - greyhoundfd (06/28/2015) [-]
Exactly: There are people being shot and stabbed and bombed everyday and people believe that somehow they're some oppressed minority because they're being denied a convenience. I will be completely honest, homosexual people do have it pretty hard in some ways, but at the same time that they're rioting in the streets over not being allowed to marry each other, ISIS is busy locking down entire airports and executing all the people inside. Enormous amounts of the public bandwidth is being taken up by people who are furious over a relatively minor convenience, while people the world over are being shot, executed, bombed, tortured, and sold into slavery.

How many public protests have you seen over the Israeli bombings of Palestinian territories? Over the horrific treatment of political prisoners in Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America? Over the fact that slavery is still common in Mauretania? Over the fact that Kim Jong Un kills people by throwing them to dogs or shooting them with flak artillery? Where are the massive public protests over the warcrimes of countless countries the world over? Where are the calls for foreign involvement? For sanctions? For military intervention? The silence is fucking deafening!

Instead, we have people clogging up the streets with "pride parades" that do nothing more than "celebrate" their sexuality. The fact is that no one fucking cares except for them. We're all just trying to make it through the day, and so are all the gay people who don't want to participate in the parades, who just want to be left alone.

There are absolutely reasons to stage public protests, but this is not one of them. There are no western countries where gays are treated poorly anymore. After the SCOTUS decision that's a fact now, and while there may be isolated cases (usually by school-age children who would still be harassing those people, gay or not) the fact is that nowhere in the west are gays actually systematically discriminated against. Russia? Yes. Iran? Yes. North Korea? Yes.

Germany? No. Sweden? no. Britain? No. France? No. The United States? No. Canada? No. Hell, all of those countries except for the United States actually define discriminatory speech as a crime under federal law, which is the closest thing to a "Civil Rights Abuse" that any of them practice because it's banning speech simply for being offensive.

>You don't have to go watch it do you?

nah, but its loud as fuck and all over the internet, im sorry that people have to drive to the store or to work and have to go past these parades and see dildos and shit and cover their kids eyes.

i have no problem with homosexuals, one of my closest friends is bisexual and another one of my friends was hardcore homosexual he would sneak out into the woods with a tent and his boyfriend and have sex all weekend but shit like this is the reason people are homophobes, because they see these weird ass parades and think "theres allot of homosexual in this parade, that must be how all of them act" and honestly, i can see why they would think that

Point taken.

But I don't agree that "shit like this is the reason people are homophobes"

Don't have any statistical evidence to back my case though.

Purely from experience I find it's mostly people who are scared they're gay - hence 'phobia'
User avatar #36 - greyhoundfd (06/28/2015) [-]
That's a shitty excuse. Homophobia is a blanket term for any kind of prejudice or discrimination against homosexuals, it doesn't mean that you're "scared of them".

Was the first place to be colonize and a Quebec representative (I forget his name) is where the idea of confederation formed and went through. Quebec was literally the reason that Canada was founded.

Also Montreal ya. Don't say Canada isn't good. It really is.

I thought the only reason why Quebec is still around is cause France didn't want you fuck no more, and the English didn't want you either. You just sat and complained until the English let you keep the french language, systems and religion?
#94 - gingerowne (06/28/2015) [-]
dude the french and English colonized Canada and then the English fucked frances shit up and sent them home but some of those sneaky bastards stayed around and thats why we have quebec. when you really think about it if the french never came to Canada then we would still be a country and Quebec likely wouldnt exist and everyone would be happy
User avatar #99 - darknak (06/28/2015) [-]
Not at all. The french alredy built something that could be close to small cononies and the english didn't capture until at least the first built villages. Once under the British flag then more english began o immigrate and live mostly in what was called "high Canda" (or something like that in english) and the french were mostly in "low canada"
#102 - gingerowne (06/28/2015) [-]

Well I'm certainly glad you can see the good in my speaking skills. Frankly, I do it to get to the point. I hate having my time wasted for any reason, and so I extend that courtesy to others and try not to waste anyone else's time either; which leads me to being very blunt and brutal in my words so that they cannot be confused or misheard. Though I admit I was frustrated in that debate.
User avatar #511 to #510 - thediablo (01/26/2015) [-]
most of them are frustrating anyway

and yeah, it sucks when people start to get offtrack because of a single comment that you used as an example or something, it's proof that they are desperately trying to derail the conversation to their favor
User avatar #512 to #511 - captainfuckitall ONLINE (01/26/2015) [-]
Oh well. When you get into a debate with someone, the point should be because you are trying to change your own views, not theirs.

If someone doesn't want to believe something, they won't. End of story. You could use all the proof you want to tell someone the colour of the sky is blue, but if they want it to be green, it will be and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Thus, the only person you should be focused on changing in a debate is yourself, and only do so to get more perspective on the issues important to you.

I wasn't pointlessly rude. If you read it more carefully, you would find I am not insulting your god or faith, but rather, the people who spread it about; and even they are just doing it to themselves, while I am mearly making an observation

It's ironic you call me tryhard, considering you just went through the time to thumb-down my last 20 comments as if it would have any effect on me personally or my ranking here. It's also odd you call me stupid, considering you were the one who read it uncorrectly. And I think the fact I have so many comment thumbs anyways (including my own jesus comment) speaks to the point that I am, in fact, quite hilarious. "Feelfag", is that supposed to be a derogatory term for someone who is passionate about certain things? If so, then I take pride in it, as it is only through passion that things grow.

Considering you are pretentious, arrogant, immature, and without a sense of humour; you fit the criteria for '12 year old funnyjunker' far better than I do.
