Absence of evidence is not proof of absence.

We have not seen Aliens, or so we know, yet.

Their existence is undeniable in the eyes of the scientific community.

But no, Atheism is based on belief, not evidence. If there was proof for your argument most people would be atheists.

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies.

Please don't past only half of it. This can easily mean "Aliens" among other things, like the big bang theory. (Not the show)

Yes, Atheism is a belief, a belief that gods do not exist, what are religions? Groups with beliefs centered on one specific area.. Like not believing in God.

Good night Richard Dawkins.
User avatar #78 - cantremember (07/27/2013) [-]
Well atheism is based on evidence. "I don't believe in a god (atheism) because there is no evidence for it. There is no reason for me to believe it." Atheism is not based spiritual beliefs or some idea of something greater. Like oh well .. a religion? Religion goes hand in hand with "faith based beliefs". So therefore you can't say that atheism is a religion. It is just wrong. No matter what I personally think.

Yes it is true that you can apply the term "religion" to alot of things, not just "god". But atheism is not one of them. Because of rejecting this very thing. It is not based in the world of subjectivity, but objectivity.

The problem is that atheism gets the same protections as a religion, when in actuality it shouldn't.
User avatar #72 - ariickido (07/27/2013) [-]
I have given you the dictionary definition of Religion, it is proof that my statement is correct.

Regardless of your "opinion", facts will always be facts. If you're athiest, you're religious.

Religion is not believing in God, it is following a set of beliefs. Taoism is the belief of balance in nature, not in God, for instance.

Deal with it.
User avatar #92 - doodogger (07/27/2013) [-]
Congress changed the definition of religion a little while back. It used to mean a belief in a higher power or god(s). The liberals changed it. Dumb liberals.
User avatar #93 - ariickido (07/27/2013) [-]
"Congress" cannot change the Oxford definition.
User avatar #94 - doodogger (07/27/2013) [-]
oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/religion

A while back, congress changed what they consider to be religion. It now means (to U.S. congress) to basically have a strong belief in/of anything.

Defeats the whole purpose and is why athiest are defended by the 2nd amendment.
User avatar #96 - ariickido (07/27/2013) [-]
"Congress" can't change the Oxford Dictionary definitions.. it's governed by those who created it. That website is American, with only one thing added to it, a Noun.

Highly doubt anyone considers that factual information.
User avatar #97 - doodogger (07/27/2013) [-]
So you think some dude made a website and called it oxforddictionaries just to fuck with people?
User avatar #99 - ariickido (07/27/2013) [-]
I do not think some "dude" did it to fuck with anyone. I just understand that America/Congress cannot change a British Dictionary or it's definitions, as they don't adhere to our dictionary for the majority.

Because we use different grammar and such.

dictionary.reference.com/browse/religion

That site, is accurate and contains 10x's the amount of information found in your link, therefore I assume it is up to date and correct.
User avatar #100 - doodogger (07/27/2013) [-]
Yeah that's the one I usually use. I thought they'd have the same definitions.

Anyway, a while back, the definition of religion as far as congress was concerned was basically a belief in a god/gods/higher power, etc. Now it's just anything strongly believed. Even the strong non-belief in religion <---which I think is just wrong.
User avatar #101 - ariickido (07/27/2013) [-]
I agree that strong belief in something doesn't make it a religion, but you can't argue with facts set down by the majority so instead of using my opinion I used facts given by our dictionaries and showed Atheists that what they're doing is believing in something so much (without evidence) that it has became a Religion in itself, Richard Dawkins took that charge.

Sorry if I seemed rude to begin with.
User avatar #102 - doodogger (07/27/2013) [-]
It's fine.

Hey at least we have the same belief ;P
User avatar #103 - ariickido (07/27/2013) [-]
I personally believe that God/Goddess' were probably just a sentient race that were present in our past, there are many records throughout history in which people like Alexander the great proclaimed that he witnessed unidentified flying objects during/after his battles in the sky.

I believe that perhaps we once knew what God(s) were, a sentient race that helped us develop but then we dumbed down and it became a game of Chinese whispers.

Another thing is, over 80% of our population have the IQ of a brick wall, yet because of Democracy 80% of those people are allowed to elect who runs their country and what decisions are made.

If we are to become a great race, we either have to have one smart fucker running it all, for instance Lelouch Vi Britannia, or kill off all the morons (Sieg heil?)

Either way, our ability to understand and grow as a race is compromised by the masses being.. less than average mental strength.
User avatar #105 - doodogger (07/27/2013) [-]
I see what you mean. But what is more important? moral goodness or intellectual pursuits?
User avatar #108 - ariickido (07/27/2013) [-]
Morality is amazing, but unless you're more intelligent than you are moral, you'll never understand when it's appropriate to let your morality play a part in your endeavors.
#177 - doodogger (07/28/2013) [-]
Hitler was more intelligent than he was moral.

I think you're wrong about this one. It doesn't take much intelligence to be moral. Do you have to be smart to hold the door open to someone, to want a cure for cancer, or to give a tip at a restaurant?
User avatar #178 - ariickido (07/28/2013) [-]
Unless you're intelligent enough to understand other people and the world around you, unless you're intelligent enough to be aware of things around you. Your "morality" just becomes a hindrance, drags you down and gets you killed. I hold doors open for people, why? Because I'm intelligent enough to know it's polite.
User avatar #179 - doodogger (07/28/2013) [-]
You have to be pretty damn unintelligent to get yourself killed by holding a door open for someone. Far less intelligent than the average person.

I think you mean by being so moral, that you just end up giving EVERYTHING you get, to charity; not smart enough to keep some for yourself. If that is your theory, I agree with you, but I think most people are more intelligent than that.

I understand though how people can let their morals drag them down.

Being too intelligent and not moral enough can drag others down.
