User avatar #128 - cadaverbox (02/11/2012) [-]
The story lines go no where. A story should have a fucking point.
Plus all those shonen tropes are just garbage.
User avatar #132 - Moushi (02/11/2012) [-]
Actually, the stories are pretty good, and they all end at a good point and don't drag on forever. A few of the animes you posted didn't really have a point at the beginning either, they gained the point as they went on. The ones you posted were all Shounen as well, so I really don't know where you are trying to go with that either. Also, you don't need to curse, I can understand you in a very civil way.
User avatar #134 - cadaverbox (02/11/2012) [-]
Azumanga Daioh had no point which is why it was popular.
Yakitate is typical but it's quite punny.
But the rest were seinen.
User avatar #136 - Moushi (02/11/2012) [-]
But in your last comment you said a story should have a point. I did enjoy azumanga daioh so I do respect your choices, they are quite good, though a few of them I'm not familiar with, and I have to admit, I keep having to search some of the terms you are using, I thought I would just add a few more suggestions of animes that I enjoyed so others could look them up, I don't think you had a right to say that I had shitty taste considering my taste is pretty close to yours.
User avatar #138 - cadaverbox (02/11/2012) [-]
If it makes you feel any better, I yell at my friends for being too immature for their tastes.
Then when they try to refute, I show them my tastes.
And then they are reformed.

Azumanga Daioh's point was the whole slice-of-life deal. It's story was endearing and humorous because it rang true to the monotony or good times of high school life. More importantly, the characters sprung to life, which is why the show is as famous as it is, and thusly started the wave of slice-of-life animes like Lucky Star, Nichijou, Baby Kill Me, etc.

Uh oh, gotta reply up here because we've run out of reply room. Anyway, I know what you mean, I've seen weaboos too that just make me ashamed to even watch anime. We had an anime club too and all they would play was naruto or bleach, suffice to say, I left pretty quickly. I think the only good thing that came out of joining was I was introduced to Soul Eater, and I have to admit that all in all it's pretty mediocre but it has it's really goofy and fun parts which I enjoyed, that's the reason I added it to my list. It had some really corny parts too and the manga is going the way of Naruto and Bleach so I stopped reading.

Exactly, Narutards are the reason why I hate the anime fans.
So I must take pride in being a connoisseur. In fact, all the Lamar Smiths who are toenail clippinging me down are all probably buttraging that I called them out on being the reason that anime is gay to the non-anime fans.

Well, I don't really think I need to be informed. As I'm getting older it's becoming harder and harder for me to find anime that I really like. I'll admit, I don't really like super brutal stuff but I do enjoy a good story and fun characters. I'll probably become less interested as I become older and might drop anime all together, right now I just read manga which is what I'm basing my choices off.

As I said, I do enjoy Asumanga and I do understand the appeal, I have nothing against it and love how simple and fun it is, there's no drama, just fun goofy stuff going on and it's about these students coming together and growing up and coming out of their shells to find who they are. I love the series so much I got all of the manga (not a huge feat considering there are only 4 books) but I read them every once in a while. As I said, our tastes aren't so different. I also love Cowboy Bebop and Fooly Cooly. Evengalion I also enjoyed until near the end where stuff just got weird.

Eeh, that's my own misuse of the word.
I call all the uninformed kids in my anime club weeaboos.
They'll say shit like, "I DEMAND WE WATCH NARUTO." to which I'll respond "We're not watching Naruto ever to sit down, shut up, and watch what I show you." Then they do that, I play something like Excel Saga or anything, and they come to me afterwards expressing their amusement or interest in the anime I show them.

Pfft hardly. Go ahead and tell me why the animes are shitty.

User avatar #170 - Moushi (02/11/2012) [-]
User avatar #172 - cadaverbox (02/11/2012) [-]
Exactly, Narutards are the reason why I hate the anime fans.
So I must take pride in being a connoisseur. In fact, all the Lamar Smiths who are toenail clippinging me down are all probably buttraging that I called them out on being the reason that anime is gay to the non-anime fans.
Here: www.watchanimeon.com/nichij...
Just watch this and get a start on what you're missing.
Plus, the theme songs are crazy awesome.

User avatar #176 - Moushi (02/11/2012) [-]
Well, I wouldn't say that, they probably just have different tastes, which is OK, plus some of the things you initially said to me were pretty insulting and had no real basis, either way, I'm glad we came to an agreement. But I can't watch your video right now, my sleeping pills are kicking in and it's about time I go to sleep, but if you would post it on my profile I will gladly watch it tomorrow
User avatar #143 - Moushi (02/11/2012) [-]

I was watching Cowboy Bebop ever since I was a wee lass. I've been rewatching it now (in order, since my dad only owned remixes with a few episodes missing out of all 26) so that I can remember and process the story with a brain older than 10/11. Still love it, though, and since we have the movie I'll be watching that as soon as I get around to watching the last few episodes.

My transition is completely on the economic axis, I have always been very pro-civil liberties.

The change was pretty gradual actually, nothing radical at all. I was a member of the left-most mainstream political party in Canada from 2011 to the beginning of 2013. Roughly 2 years. During that time, I also began taking political science, economics, and philosophy courses at the University, as well as studying it myself once and a while on my spare time.

I was an activist with the left-of-centre political party (it is called the New Democratic Party if you care to look it up). Anyhow, the New Democrats on campus were radicals. I'm talking Democratic Socialists, Marxists, and Commies. I would regularly argue with them. The more I educated myself, the more and more I began to realize I am not meant for the left-wing.

At the beginning of last year, I quit the party and considered myself a principled moderate, as I explored various political ideology and economics. During this time, I became a lot less political, and spent more time exploring my hobbies and interests. I also began dating my fiancée.

When my fiancée returned to Brazil to finish her education, we began the immigration process--and that was where it got personal. It is extremely bureaucratic, costly, and full of unnecessary red-tape. Not only is the government seperating families and loved ones in the name of "national security" however they are also preventing employers from hiring foreigners to fill positions where we have labour shortages because the bureaucratic backlog.

I'm exploring Libertarianism and Classical Liberalism a lot, and would say I've adopted a non-authoritative right-of-centre position. I'm not all that fond of Keynesian or Socialist economics. I am fond of Milton Friedman and the Chicago School. If you know your stuff, you would know that Milton was an adviser to Reagan. I've been debating joining the conservative party here.

Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with being socially liberal and economically conservative. I consider myself to be under that category, so I guess we're just two peas in a pod. You just too a bit longer to stop calling yourself a carrot.

I found a webcomic you might like.

It's short but very funny and a little insightful into what japanese culture is really like to a western outsider. (or gaijin as I've just learned)

You've got some pretty sweet content. I used to have a little content but then I got permabanned and then unpermabanned. The process reset my entire account except for my thumbs.

It's a bit of a long story and I don't particularly want to tell it.

Hehe, never been permabanned. Never banned either.

Also, you should know that I've watched the first season of MLP:FiM and read up to Act 4 of Homestuck, and recognize that they have some charms, the latter more so, but I lost interest in both of them. MLP sort of suck now that I think about it though.

I HATE the fanbases for those shows/comics, though. Hate 'em. However, I hate them for the reasons that you don't exhibit, so I sort of respect you for not being an autistic fanfaggot who blathers nonstop about X or Y to everyone. Good job.

I tried to read homestuck 4 times before I got interested in it. The plot really takes off after act 4 and once I was there I started enjoying it.
This is all I will say of homestuck unless pressed for information.

I agree with you on MLP sort of sucking now. After it lost the thrill of watching a "children's show" it got boring.

The only reason I still even go onto the board is because it's a little less acidic then you're usual random board. And kinda charming in it's chaotic insanity of rolls and shitposts.

I usually stick to friendly which has semi-suicidal depressed "Friendly" people as it's primary feature along with the usual private board rules. The only pony content is the occasional mascot and people talking about how they're too lazy to watch the new episodes.

You know that I've run into a true fundamentalist style* homestuck fan at school? It's some middleschooler/highschooler/idfk. I already hate him for making the rest of us look bad.**

*fundamentalist: someone who won't change his mind and won't change the subject.

**and I do mean bad; the kid's rabid about it; everytime I hear him talking it's about homestuck. He also thinks Hussie (the author) is the alpha and omega of web content

Y'know Adam Reed used to be like that.
After he graduated, we used to talk every night on Skype for hours, and that's literally the only thing he would talk about.
He kept trying to make me read it, and when I appeased him and said I didn't like it very much, he insisted on making me enjoy it.

LUCKILY, he was reasonable enough to quit asking and we went on to different subjects but he still brings it and its fucking fanfiction up every now and then.

Also, what's the kid's name?
User avatar #485 to #484 - joyfullreaper (04/21/2013) [-]
I don't know but I think he's the other kid that dressed like Dr. Who for the halloween costume contest.

Details:
wears glasses
11th doctor style tweed jacket (usually)
shortish in a not-short-but-kinda-undersized way
still taller than most of his class
I think he's in quatro's class

really? Adam Reed? I know he was obsessed with C&C games; he lectured me for an hour during CxC practice one day

User avatar #486 to #485 - cadaverbox (04/21/2013) [-]
ooohhhh THAT kid
the kid who's a total fucking faggot and brings him macbook he only uses for minecraft and "memes" everywhere
fuck him

I hate him too
He's annoying
Has a macbook
but most of all: he makes Homestuck fans look like total faggots

Have any hints, pointers, or suggestions for me on how to grow a FB community page?
User avatar #404 to #403 - cadaverbox (11/14/2012) [-]
Alright, you're gonna need to post funny content, it doesn't always have to be original, but make sure to do that too.
Be generally funny. That helps.

One thing that pisses sensible pages off is the Share for Share thing. It's cheap, lazy, and annoying, especially when you're a page with 32 likes begging for a share from a page that has like 4000 likes. Just be real and you'll get likes.

Another thing, fan interaction. You gotta talk to your fans. Have conversations with them and let them know you care enough to respond to their comments.

Thanks Cad, your advice will not fall of deaf ears. I appreciate it :)
