Uh oh, gotta reply up here because we've run out of reply room. Anyway, I know what you mean, I've seen weaboos too that just make me ashamed to even watch anime. We had an anime club too and all they would play was naruto or bleach, suffice to say, I left pretty quickly. I think the only good thing that came out of joining was I was introduced to Soul Eater, and I have to admit that all in all it's pretty mediocre but it has it's really goofy and fun parts which I enjoyed, that's the reason I added it to my list. It had some really corny parts too and the manga is going the way of Naruto and Bleach so I stopped reading.

So I must take pride in being a connoisseur. In fact, all the Lamar Smiths who are toenail clippinging me down are all probably buttraging that I called them out on being the reason that anime is gay to the non-anime fans.

Well, I don't really think I need to be informed. As I'm getting older it's becoming harder and harder for me to find anime that I really like. I'll admit, I don't really like super brutal stuff but I do enjoy a good story and fun characters. I'll probably become less interested as I become older and might drop anime all together, right now I just read manga which is what I'm basing my choices off.

As I said, I do enjoy Asumanga and I do understand the appeal, I have nothing against it and love how simple and fun it is, there's no drama, just fun goofy stuff going on and it's about these students coming together and growing up and coming out of their shells to find who they are. I love the series so much I got all of the manga (not a huge feat considering there are only 4 books) but I read them every once in a while. As I said, our tastes aren't so different. I also love Cowboy Bebop and Fooly Cooly. Evengalion I also enjoyed until near the end where stuff just got weird.

But in your last comment you said a story should have a point. I did enjoy azumanga daioh so I do respect your choices, they are quite good, though a few of them I'm not familiar with, and I have to admit, I keep having to search some of the terms you are using, I thought I would just add a few more suggestions of animes that I enjoyed so others could look them up, I don't think you had a right to say that I had shitty taste considering my taste is pretty close to yours.

If it makes you feel any better, I yell at my friends for being too immature for their tastes.
Then when they try to refute, I show them my tastes.
And then they are reformed.

Azumanga Daioh's point was the whole slice-of-life deal. It's story was endearing and humorous because it rang true to the monotony or good times of high school life. More importantly, the characters sprung to life, which is why the show is as famous as it is, and thusly started the wave of slice-of-life animes like Lucky Star, Nichijou, Baby Kill Me, etc.

Ahahaha, I remember that. Probably one of my favourite scenes, just because gorey humour is always hilarious to me. I could be watching a movie like Event Horizon and be pissing myself laughing because of the scene with the guy hung up flayed. HAHAHA, or any Hellraiser movie. Ah, Pinhead. He's so funny. :'D I haven't seen any of those for a while now, though. I should re-watch them.

In a cruel twist of fate, over the last year or so since we last spoke...

I've become right-of-centre. I remember you were my SoL adversarial partner ;)

if you became left-wing within that time, our role reversal is complete.

Wow, that's awesome!
Care to explain what made you change your mind? Also, give me a quick update on your life cuz we haven't talked in a while.

My transition is completely on the economic axis, I have always been very pro-civil liberties.

The change was pretty gradual actually, nothing radical at all. I was a member of the left-most mainstream political party in Canada from 2011 to the beginning of 2013. Roughly 2 years. During that time, I also began taking political science, economics, and philosophy courses at the University, as well as studying it myself once and a while on my spare time.

I was an activist with the left-of-centre political party (it is called the New Democratic Party if you care to look it up). Anyhow, the New Democrats on campus were radicals. I'm talking Democratic Socialists, Marxists, and Commies. I would regularly argue with them. The more I educated myself, the more and more I began to realize I am not meant for the left-wing.

At the beginning of last year, I quit the party and considered myself a principled moderate, as I explored various political ideology and economics. During this time, I became a lot less political, and spent more time exploring my hobbies and interests. I also began dating my fiancée.

When my fiancée returned to Brazil to finish her education, we began the immigration process--and that was where it got personal. It is extremely bureaucratic, costly, and full of unnecessary red-tape. Not only is the government seperating families and loved ones in the name of "national security" however they are also preventing employers from hiring foreigners to fill positions where we have labour shortages because the bureaucratic backlog.

I'm exploring Libertarianism and Classical Liberalism a lot, and would say I've adopted a non-authoritative right-of-centre position. I'm not all that fond of Keynesian or Socialist economics. I am fond of Milton Friedman and the Chicago School. If you know your stuff, you would know that Milton was an adviser to Reagan. I've been debating joining the conservative party here.

Actually, 'there's no such thing as a free lunch' is one of my favorite things to say.
This is a great development, man. I'm really happy for you. Stick it them commies!

Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with being socially liberal and economically conservative. I consider myself to be under that category, so I guess we're just two peas in a pod. You just too a bit longer to stop calling yourself a carrot.

I bought into the idealism of the beautiful world the left painted, hence why I was a carrot for longer than I should have been

dude college is really fun

but it's just a weird experience for me because it's something no one could have prepared me for and i have trouble adjusting to huge life shifts

and the amount of socializing i do on a daily basis is also something i'm not accustomed to

I'm currently majoring in studio art but i'm switching to computer science next semester.
