Homosexuality exists in over 200 species of animals... it's not opinion it's fact. It's natural and has been happening for much longer than your religion decided that it was wrong. Homosexuality isn't a choice, but being homophobic is.
User avatar #231 - collarbones (10/14/2012) [-]
>Homosexuality exists in over 200 species of animals
And there could easily be up to 30,000,000 species of animals on this earth, so that's a percentage of 0.0006% species exhibiting some sort of homosexuality. Most of those are a mistake, as in the male mistaking the other male for a female, much less a choice.
I really, really don't care whether or not gays can get married, it doesn't affect me in the least, but don't use the "b-b-but it's natural" excuse. Some apes murder each other as well, doesn't mean that we should as well just because it occurs in nature.
User avatar #233 - SniperKitty (10/14/2012) [-]
Oh and to compare homosexuality to murder... I LOVE when people like to bring this up I really do....

Murder is in our biology, many other animals kill their own kind too. But unlike every other animal we know that it's morally wrong to kill another person. We still do it but we know its wrong because we are mentally more advanced than any other creature. Homosexuality has no consequences on anyone, not another person, not me, not you. The fact that you try to compare something that harms another and something that we've lived with for thousands of years of our human existence that hasn't chanced our progress or harmed anyone is ludicrous at best.
User avatar #232 - SniperKitty (10/14/2012) [-]
It's most common in species with a complex herd life. Lions, geese, apes, humans.... there aren't many species that have herd lives, most are solitary. But we fall in the "complex herd" category. Dogs eat their own shit, but the majority of animals don't eat their own shit, does that make it unnatural for that one species to do it? No, it's just as natural as cats covering their own feces. You've obviously never done research if you think most are a mistake. Most are not a mistake, there is a species of goose where the females will only have sex with the other females, and once during mating season some will mate with a male to make offspring, then go back to her female flock. Really do some research....
User avatar #234 - collarbones (10/14/2012) [-]
>Dogs eat their own shit, but the majority of animals don't eat their own shit, does that make it unnatural for that one species to do it?
You stated earlier that "homosexuality exists in over 200 species of animals", but if you're going to go through them individually then why is the number relevant? You could have just said "homosexuality is natural in humans". You've changed from referencing the numbers of species as a reason why it's natural, to stating that individual traits are natural, with the latter being fairly obvious. It does beg the question though, why reference the numerical advantage in the first place? After all:
>unlike every other animal we know that it's morally wrong to kill another person.
Because we possess logic and reasoning, so why is nature relevant if we override it anyway? Like you said:
>we are mentally more advanced than any other creature
Because we have surpassed nature, we have the reasoning to override what is "natural", so what is natural really shouldn't factor into our everyday lives above survival. Why should it matter what the other 200 species are doing? Using your dog example, just because a dog eats it's own shit, doesn't mean it's natural for us to eat our own shit. We have the reasoning to not let nature influence in our lives. But as you said:
>Homosexuality has no consequences on anyone
In that case why does it matter whether or not it is natural? That is the crux of my point. Whether or not it is natural means nothing, because nature to us no longer means anything. Read again: "I really, really don't care whether or not gays can get married, it doesn't affect me in the least".
User avatar #235 - SniperKitty (10/14/2012) [-]
Again it was sated there was no facts only opinions on it. I gave a fact about how homosexuality is natural, not my personal opinion on homosexuality, the facts on it. The facts are, we are among the species that display homosexuality, we are among the species that masturbate and have sex for pleasure too. It's not opinion, it's fact. You can't say there is no facts only opinions on homosexuality when there are facts if you care to look for them.

And no, we haven't over ridden what is natural, if we had then we wouldn't kill anyone would we? No, but we know it's wrong, that's why we have laws against it, that's why it's looked down upon, it harms another individual and we are mentally capable to know that is wrong. Again if we had over ridden our natural instinct nobody would kill at all, we just know that it's morally wrong, it doesn't mean that it stops some people from doing it....
User avatar #236 - collarbones (10/14/2012) [-]
I have no idea why you're suddenly mentioning opinions, I never once said anything was an opinion. Really, hit ctrl-f and search for opinion. If you're talking about the last little bit at the end, that's there purely to try and cool this whole thing down, not to try and deflect facts with opinions.
>we are among the species that display homosexuality
But as of yet, we're not sure if that's natural or developed. Whether without external influence, we'd be homosexual, or whether it depends on the environment.
Take Ancient Greece for example, one of the earliest record civilisations that accepted homosexuality, it was to strengthen bonds with one another and all that. The Roman Kingdom, which occurred at the same time, has absolutely no records of homosexuality, which strengthens the idea that it's depended on the environment, otherwise there would be some records of it.
Homosexuality depends on the androgen levels of the brain as it is developing, but the levels of androgen can be increased by either natural or environmental events, whether or not either on their own can make one homosexual has yet to be proven.
>we haven't over ridden what is natural
My mistake, what I meant to type we can override our instincts, not "we override them". Which we undoubtedly can do.
User avatar #237 - SniperKitty (10/14/2012) [-]
I was referring to the post I that was originally commented on, not about yours. You get all upset about the "it's natural" argument, but it's the only non opinionated argument, which is why I made it to that person.

Ever consider that Greeks and Romans had two different beliefs? While yes they did believe in alike Gods, their basic social ideals could be two totally different things. So while one is accepting of it you see a lot of homosexuals, but if one is not you see people hiding it, suppressing it, it doesn't mean there weren't homosexuals, it just means one is California and one is Mississippi, they both have homosexuals, but you see a lot more in one state than another.
User avatar #238 - collarbones (10/14/2012) [-]
>Ever consider that Greeks and Romans had two different beliefs?
And that, is exactly my point. The environmental influence being just as great as any natural influence. One person is brought up in a culture that accepts homosexuality, he is more likely to develop into someone who is homosexual. Another brought up in a culture where it pretty much doesn't exist, and he is more likely to develop into someone who is hetrosexual.
I get where you're coming from there, but they didn't leave stuff out just because they didn't like it, otherwise we'd never get Roman accounts of Roman defeats. What we do get, is a heavily biased account, but we get no reference to it at all in the Roman Kingdom. Nobody saying it's disgusting, nobody saying it's great. Nothing. Either they were so accepting of it they didn't even mention it, or it was so negligible in their culture it effectively didn't exist.
At the end of the day, what I'm trying to get across is that the environmental factors are just as important as anything else.
User avatar #239 - SniperKitty (10/15/2012) [-]
No the acceptance of it means you notice it more, it doesn't necessarily mean it occurs more often, just because one culture feels okay to have it open and express it and the other deems it immoral and wrong therefor homosexuals in that culutre are deemed to suppress it. There could be just as many actual homosexuals in both cities, but culture would deem on inappropriate which is why we don't hear about it.
User avatar #198 - cadaverbox (10/14/2012) [-]
I didn't say homosexuality is an opinion, you dense bitch, I said liking/disliking it was.
I don't give a fuck about how natural you think it is, or how natural it might be. I just think it's gross. And I'm not "homophobic". I don't fucking fear gay people.

I JUST THINK IT'S NASTY.
HOW HARD IS THAT TO UNDERSTAND?
User avatar #208 - SniperKitty (10/14/2012) [-]
Good point, inquisitive user, but can logic and reason actually be used in this instance? I assert that it cannot, for every reason you could possibly give for this matter would be an opinion itself.

Don't act like an idiot when you yourself said logic and reasoning can't be applied to homosexuality... When yes it can, it's natural, there's your logic and reason why people are gay...
#216 - cadaverbox (10/14/2012) [-]
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ

I NEVER FUCKING SAID LOGIC AND REASONING CAN'T BE APPLIED TO HOMOSEXUALITY. I SAID YOU CAN'T USE IT TO DETERMINE AN OPINION ON IT. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ? FUCKING READ. YOU AREN'T EVEN READING. STOP ACCUSING ME OF SAYING THINGS I DIDN'T SAY AND START READING THE GODDAMN ARGUMENT.

Let me make this VERY clear. I do not give two shits about how natural it might be or how natural you think it is. I don't care. I DON'T CARE.
I don't care why people are gay. I don't care if a friend of mine is gay. I don't care about how it's "something you're born with, not a choice." I DON'T CARE ABOUT ANY OF THAT.

I JUST THINK IT'S CREEPY. JUST LIKE YOU WOULD BE DISGUSTED BY THE CONSUMPTION OF FECES. I THINK IT'S GROSS.

YOU ARE THE DUMBEST MOTHERFUCKER EVER.
User avatar #218 - SniperKitty (10/14/2012) [-]
Don't get angry because you can't accurately defend yourself. You said that there is no logic or reasoning, but there is. Now take it like a man and stop acting stupid please. I find it funny that you also claimed that you were better than everyone because you didn't care what they thought, yet are spamming and upset because someone pointed out something valid and reasonable that you can't argue with. Seems like you care to me, you must be 12 : \

K, I'm done with you, the idiocy is too much. Hope I've expanded your small mind a bit.
User avatar #222 - cadaverbox (10/14/2012) [-]
You are literally trying to accuse me of something I didn't say. Once again, READ THE FUCKING POST.

I never said there's no logic or reasoning behind being homosexual. I NEVER SAID THAT.

I said there's no logic or reasoning behind whether you support it or not.
User avatar #175 - helltard (10/14/2012) [-]
your argument puts everyone else's to shame, but my biggest point with the legalization of gay marriage is that i strongly believe that people, along with the government, should not be able to force something that is entirely social upon others. I believe that you should not force your religious, ideological, or political views on anyone. so my view on homosexuality is irrelevant in the argument of gay marriage
User avatar #176 - cadaverbox (10/14/2012) [-]
I don't have an opinion on gay marriage.
I just don't comfortable with gays.
Not that I won't befriend someone I know is gay.

You know, I personally am actually into abstinence, therefore I am not interested in actually having sex till marriage.
And really, this is the only place where I ave posted this, and I've simply asked for people's advice, because I desperately need it. I'd go to a psychiatrist again, however, it takes a very long time for me to start trusting the person, and by then, they typically have left the country (;-;).
I've stopped cheating, and I don't really drink, and I'm trying to stop any and all lies. In reality, I have very little idea of what I'm doing, so I'm literally following word for word on what a stranger has said. Simply because they cannot judge my character and change their opinion on what I should do. So yeah.
I would never do what Amanda Todd did, because, I simply want advice, not attention. I just want someone to help out with this entire situation. I'm going to be truthful, so far you seem to be one of the more succesful ones, and I'd like to say thank you, dear sir.

My transition is completely on the economic axis, I have always been very pro-civil liberties.

The change was pretty gradual actually, nothing radical at all. I was a member of the left-most mainstream political party in Canada from 2011 to the beginning of 2013. Roughly 2 years. During that time, I also began taking political science, economics, and philosophy courses at the University, as well as studying it myself once and a while on my spare time.

I was an activist with the left-of-centre political party (it is called the New Democratic Party if you care to look it up). Anyhow, the New Democrats on campus were radicals. I'm talking Democratic Socialists, Marxists, and Commies. I would regularly argue with them. The more I educated myself, the more and more I began to realize I am not meant for the left-wing.

At the beginning of last year, I quit the party and considered myself a principled moderate, as I explored various political ideology and economics. During this time, I became a lot less political, and spent more time exploring my hobbies and interests. I also began dating my fiancée.

When my fiancée returned to Brazil to finish her education, we began the immigration process--and that was where it got personal. It is extremely bureaucratic, costly, and full of unnecessary red-tape. Not only is the government seperating families and loved ones in the name of "national security" however they are also preventing employers from hiring foreigners to fill positions where we have labour shortages because the bureaucratic backlog.

I'm exploring Libertarianism and Classical Liberalism a lot, and would say I've adopted a non-authoritative right-of-centre position. I'm not all that fond of Keynesian or Socialist economics. I am fond of Milton Friedman and the Chicago School. If you know your stuff, you would know that Milton was an adviser to Reagan. I've been debating joining the conservative party here.

Actually, 'there's no such thing as a free lunch' is one of my favorite things to say.
This is a great development, man. I'm really happy for you. Stick it them commies!

Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with being socially liberal and economically conservative. I consider myself to be under that category, so I guess we're just two peas in a pod. You just too a bit longer to stop calling yourself a carrot.

I bought into the idealism of the beautiful world the left painted, hence why I was a carrot for longer than I should have been

dude college is really fun

but it's just a weird experience for me because it's something no one could have prepared me for and i have trouble adjusting to huge life shifts

and the amount of socializing i do on a daily basis is also something i'm not accustomed to

I'm currently majoring in studio art but i'm switching to computer science next semester.

I found a webcomic you might like.

It's short but very funny and a little insightful into what japanese culture is really like to a western outsider. (or gaijin as I've just learned)

You've got some pretty sweet content. I used to have a little content but then I got permabanned and then unpermabanned. The process reset my entire account except for my thumbs.

It's a bit of a long story and I don't particularly want to tell it.

Hehe, never been permabanned. Never banned either.

Also, you should know that I've watched the first season of MLP:FiM and read up to Act 4 of Homestuck, and recognize that they have some charms, the latter more so, but I lost interest in both of them. MLP sort of suck now that I think about it though.

I HATE the fanbases for those shows/comics, though. Hate 'em. However, I hate them for the reasons that you don't exhibit, so I sort of respect you for not being an autistic fanfaggot who blathers nonstop about X or Y to everyone. Good job.

I tried to read homestuck 4 times before I got interested in it. The plot really takes off after act 4 and once I was there I started enjoying it.
This is all I will say of homestuck unless pressed for information.

I agree with you on MLP sort of sucking now. After it lost the thrill of watching a "children's show" it got boring.

The only reason I still even go onto the board is because it's a little less acidic then you're usual random board. And kinda charming in it's chaotic insanity of rolls and ********* .

I usually stick to friendly which has semi-suicidal depressed "Friendly" people as it's primary feature along with the usual private board rules. The only pony content is the occasional mascot and people talking about how they're too lazy to watch the new episodes.

You know that I've run into a true fundamentalist style* homestuck fan at school? It's some middleschooler/highschooler/idfk. I already hate him for making the rest of us look bad.**

*fundamentalist: someone who won't change his mind and won't change the subject.

**and I do mean bad; the kid's rabid about it; everytime I hear him talking it's about homestuck. He also thinks Hussie (the author) is the alpha and omega of web content
User avatar #484 to #483 - cadaverbox (04/21/2013) [-]
Y'know Adam Reed used to be like that.
After he graduated, we used to talk every night on Skype for hours, and that's literally the only thing he would talk about.
He kept trying to make me read it, and when I appeased him and said I didn't like it very much, he insisted on making me enjoy it.

LUCKILY, he was reasonable enough to quit asking and we went on to different subjects but he still brings it and its ******* fanfiction up every now and then.

Also, what's the kid's name?
User avatar #485 to #484 - joyfullreaper (04/21/2013) [-]
I don't know but I think he's the other kid that dressed like Dr. Who for the halloween costume contest.

Details:
wears glasses
11th doctor style tweed jacket (usually)
shortish in a not-short-but-kinda-undersized way
still taller than most of his class
I think he's in quatro's class

really? Adam Reed? I know he was obsessed with C&C games; he lectured me for an hour during CxC practice one day
