As for the console itself, it's a big black box. A reallllly big black box. Unless you get one of the limited editions, then it becomes a different-coloured but still big box. If you ask me though, it looks pretty neato, and is super quiet. I guess after the 360 Issues, Msoft really wanted to make sure the internals had lots of room to cool.

The whole console ecosystem feels and looks really premium. Some people care for it, some don't. Smartglass is really nice for lots of stuff too. if you care about gaming headsets, be aware of the controller's need for an adapter to work with most other peripherals. I think they've released new controllers that don't need it, but I'm not too sure.

Microsoft is doing a good job of integrating Xbox with Windows 10, so if you're into PC Gaming, investing yourself into the LIVE ecosystem might be worth it, with some titles having a cross-buy/cross-play feature when they launch. A new UI is also coming out this fall when it gets the W10 update to sort of reflect that.

Multiplats are serviceable, but you'll miss out on all the PS4 timed-exclusive DLC stuff, not to mention, with a lower technical performance for most games.
If you play multiplats on PC, this may not be an issue in the first place.

Xbox as a brand has always done really well with online, and I'm fairly certain that all of the first party titles run on dedicated servers that allow stuff like the Killer Instinct netcode to be so good and Crackdown 3 multiplayer to be possible.

Backwards compatibility is launching this fall, first with a limited amount of titles, but It's still worth something.

Monthly updates that add in user-requested features are a nice touch, even moreso if you become part of their preview program that lets you preview the updates early.

Kinect is cool, and greatly improved over the first model, but kinda worthless and unnecessary.

The Xbox library is expanding in variety, so you'll probably see a few JRPGs and stuff if you're into that on the console. Maybe a sequel to Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon. I mean, they're making a Phantom Dust remake, so anything could happen right?

But if you are into that, Nintendo and Sony obviously have a larger pool of that already, so, there's that.

Also, I forgot to mention Halo Wars 2 in my first post. Again, I'm a Halo fan, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt when it comes to Halo, but I enjoyed the original Halo Wars a bunch. The sequel is being developed by the same guys who did Alien: Isolation and the Total War series.

I probably forgot a few things, but those are why I both initially purchased mine, why I'm still happy with it, and why I'm excited for the future of it.

TL;DR Just buy a Vita TV

Thinking of getting an Xbox One as part of a refurnishing project. Would you recommend it?

I had a PS4, but sold it. Sony's going to bite the dust any day now...

SUPER LONG POST INCOMING.
There might be a little bias in me, but I would recommend getting on that's on sale or through a deal. BestBuy had a deal recently where you could get an Xbox and a TV for $500 USD, but I don't know if that's ended already.

Allow me to needlessly summarize each exclusive game so far.
**
-The Master Chief Collection used to be plagued with issues, but is now pretty darn functional, and worth it for the single player alone.
-Sunset Overdrive is stupid fun. Like Scott Pilgrim + Tony Hawk + Orange Soda.
-Killer Instinct is one of the best, if not *The* best fighting games this gen. It might not have as much content as something like MK, but the mechanics are soo good it almost doesn't matter, and the netcode is GOAT.
-Forza Horizon 2 is fun even if you're not a racing game fan. It's my first Forza game, and my first racing game in years, but it kept me glued to the screen. It has room for improvement and expansion, but what it does have is pretty neato.
-Ryse is an okay rental/$10 game. It's super pretty, has a fairly engaging story and fighting mechanics that surpass that of Assassin's Creed IMO. It is super restrictive and linear in the worse sense of the word, though. Basically, it's The Order for Xbox. Also available on PC.
-Crimson Dragon is pretty meh, unless you're a fan of the Panzer Dragoon series. Not for me personally, but it's there for those that do like it.
-Rare Replay is an insane value, even moreso if you're a Rare fan. 30 games for 30 bucks at retail is pretty sweet. No licensed games though, so don't expect Goldeneye (Perfect Dark is better imo) or Wizards & Warriors.
-Super Time Force and #IDARB are some of the greatest indies I've ever played, but I think STF is available on other platforms, and #IDARB will eventually be.
-Gears of War ultimate is a remaster/remake of the first Gears game, and it comes with all the original games as backwards compatible downloads. Must get if you're a Gears fan.
-Ori and the Blind Forest is a beautiful indie Metroid-vania style game. So if you like Metroid or Later Castlevania games, or just artsy games in general, it's worth checking out.
-Titanfall is available on PC, but it's an alright shooter without much content. Worth a rental.
-Haven't played Forza 5 or Dead Rising 4, but if you were to get a Forza game, I'd wait for Forza 6 anyway.

Not to mention what hasn't come out:

-Halo 5:Guardians looks super interesting, but I'm a Halo fan for life, so take that with a grain of salt.
-I loved the Tomb Raider 2013 reboot (I'd place it above Gears 3 as far as 3rd person shooter combat goes.), so I'm pretty excited for Rise of The Tomb Raider, despite it's stupid title.
-Quantum Break looks rad, if you like any of Remedy's games, this one looks just as promising as those were.
-Phantom Dust, if it ever gets released, would be cool, if underappreciated.
-ReCore is being developed by Comcept. Though I don't care for what I've seen of Might No. 9, the talent behind the game makes it intriguing, but nothing to get excited about yet.
-Scalebound also looks great. If you're a Platinum Games fan, or a fan of Japanese Action RPGS, this is something to look forward to.
-Crackdown 3 looks like it will have a pretty insane multiplayer, with fully destructible environments running on a multitude of cloud servers for a single game. If you like Crackdown or Red Faction, keep an eye on this.
-Battletoads. Technically not confirmed, but totally happening. I guarantee it.**
