Watashi is always used in a business situation. But a male talking to a friend will never ever used watashi unless he is fem.

No. I think you're right. watashi wa is the general form. I just combined the watashi wa and atashi wa for a moment. Watashi Wa is the formal term. my bad. I've had a long day.
