Bullshit. Winter in Florida lasts a full twenty seconds on average.

True, but my CPU fan was going berserk in June and July. The slightest things above using an internet browser would make it act like I'm running The Witcher 3 on Ultra.

Minnesota here. Sorry bro, if I could send you some cold I would we get too much of it. Until we figure out how to accomplish that I'll continue trying to figure out how to extend heatpipes outside my house. Debating on just sticking the whole rad out through a window.
#70 - anon (09/24/2016) [-]
:V as a fellow minnesotan, i have my rad right against the window, JUST enough room for air to flow passed it, the temps are real man.

I have visited Florida during that time and I can assure you that what you describe as winter isn't what you think it is.

We do get winter....when cold fronts make it down this way. But as a cruel joke, the rain comes on the front side of a cold front while the cold dry air comes on the backside of the front. Which is why we never get snow. Our only winter comes with dry air.
#152 - mrhandss (09/25/2016) [-]
cold fronts only get us down into the 50s and that's IF we're lucky.

go up into the northern states where they go below 0 degrees and it's a world of difference.
#153 - terminalinfinity (09/25/2016) [-]
Bullshit. I remember working security and having to do foot patrols during the winter of 09-2010 where it was about 15-25 degrees every night for a month during January. 1 Cold front here after 2-3 weeks of warm weather will get us in Gainesville to about 50. 2 Cold fronts within 1-2 weeks of each other gets us to freezing temps. We had about 7 cold fronts pass through that January.

Yeah thats below average but we get to 28-40 regularly.
#154 - mrhandss (09/25/2016) [-]
well i GUESS maybe if you are on the northern edges of the state.

here in the tampa area, it's never ever getting nearly that cold. i guess yeah in the dead of night it can drop to basic freezing, but it's almost always back into the 70s-80s by the middle of the day.

of course, even when it's that warm, people will still have their sweatshirts on because we're too used to 90+
#155 - terminalinfinity (09/25/2016) [-]
If getting below freezing was not a problem in central Florida, growers would not make a habit of spraying their Orange crops with water to keep them above freezing over night, the majority of which grows below the turnpike line.

The middle of the night is really the problem. Yeah during the day it gets warmer, but even during the 1-2 days after a cold front drops it below freezing, it will still hover in the 40s during the day. Plus, because the days around freezing are so rare we tend to be unprepared. I literally think thousands of people would die here if it ever rained then iced over. One of the big debates in my city is how to house the homeless on nights when its literally dangerous to sleep outside.

Last year I will agree, we had no winter. But I'm a native Floridian of 26 years and I cant remember a winter where it stayed that warm. I used my heater for 2 weeks.

Snowed in Tally about two years ago; just enough to actually land on the ground. We pretty much figured god was too drunk to notice and let it happen.
#82 - terminalinfinity (09/24/2016) [-]
Was it in the morning? Here in Gainesville, there was day about a year or two ago where we got some flurries at like 7am. I had just got off work and was walking home. But it was enough to make everyone flip out on social media.
User avatar
#151 - redrangerpower (09/25/2016) [-]
As I recall it was somewhere in the 8pm to midnight range. Me and some friends were hanging downtown and we caught it starting. It began to melt and refreeze pretty much immediately the next morning, so you ended up with dirty ice in weird places.

You'd be surprised how well you can survive on five hours sleep and a lot of coffee. The hours are different between companies, but for us we're expected to do 70/week.

Yeah, and in the same vein, I used to be able to stay up days at a time with a bit of chemical assistance as well.

survival =/= safety... all I mean with what I say is, your job seems dangerous enough without allowing for risk multipliers. <___> Then again, life makes strange demands of us, and coin can be nice.

Oh well. Alright, I'm finished. Interesting work, you have.
#108 - nominalgain (09/24/2016) [-]
Hah, don't worry, I'm not an officer of the watch or anything, I'm an audio and lighting engineer; the only person I'm likely to hurt is myself, and they train us to be careful. If I manage to hurt myself, on some automation or a live wire or falling off a work platform, it's my own bloody fault.

Nah, it's not some Chilean Cyanide Exploding Frog, it's just chicken. A chicken that passed quality tests. At worst he can get salmonella. And that won't kill him. I had it. He just has to prepare for extreme shit flood from hell and maybe some vomiting.
