What I am going to tell sounds like cherrypicking, but it is not.
All religions are based on love to each other, those are ALWAYS the starting points. However, the power of fanatism makes it really easy to control people, that meaning that people with no such values see potential on diverting and fucking up religions for their own benefit. Just like Americans and the typical "war on terrorists for oil", the crusades were a religious excuse to go to war on the holly lands (remember, christianity is about love, as is always said, don't do on others as you wouldn't have done upon yourself), and the same happens with islam, people see the power they can get by writing one more tiny paragraph condemning this or that, and then further their benefits and interests.

Religions are great, the provided values like marriage and monogamy which helped mankind to stay united and love eachother, yes it was perverted many times by political figures that knew how to take advantage of that fanatic potential. But religion helped the hindus, christians and islamics to be sedentary, establishing families based upon the values of work and family. Remember that when there where no printing machines? Before Guttenberg all books were copied by hand! Thousands of pages, done by whom? By the monks, the passed on mathematics and agriculture to the newer generations in the west, without them, no civilization where you live bro.

I repeat, i am not from any religion, but religions are great, bad people are shit, and may turn religions to do bad things, but in their core, they are one of the main reasons we are as advanced as we are today, unity, HARD (REAL HARD) WORK, family, honor, and kindness, those are the true values of RELIGION.
#190 - anonymous (10/17/2014) [-]
That's all stuff that could be and has been done without religious motivations.
Just take away the Holy from States and replace infidels with dissenters.

At least priests didn't butcher hundreds of peasants just 'cause, unlike the knights.

Political powers were all fucked up by our standards.

Our ability to eat raw meat dissapeared thanks to years and years of eating cooked meat. This is an adaption we have because ever since we discovered fire, we used it to cook meat.
Also, a true frugivore (like some apes) are able to survive solely on fruits grown around their natural habitat. The only reason people now can choose not to eat meat is because the globalized economy allows you a huge variety of different fruits that you couldnt otherwise get access to. Not to mention, eating meat also allowed us to expand to conquer all corners of the earth, a feat impossible to accomplish if we relied only on fruits.

Human does not equal any primate, it refers to a specific species (and now subspecies) known as Homo sapiens sapiens , modern humans. True, our ancestors were herbivorous for a time, but we can play this evolution game both ways. If you go far enough back, we stumble onto early mammals (exclusively "rodent-like" creatures that were likely carnivorous judging by jaw shape and teeth), before that we hit early synapsids (also largely and possibly uniquely carnivorous), and before that we have "fish" (of which many species are and were carnivorous).
You also missed the key fact, that we're largely smart due to our early ancestor's adaptive advantage for eating meat, which every human carries signs of. Your incisors, canines, stomach and certain pancreatic enzymes are all hallmarks of these traits. Eat vegetarian if it pleases you, but don't make an evolutionary argument for it to someone studying biology.
Side note: Of course there was accelerated evolution, loss of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago left a phenomenal amount of environmental niches to fulfil, of which mammals filled during this time. All mammals, not just primates.

Once a highly evolved frugivorous primate with no need for conflict, started eating flesh and descended into madness.

We'll pretend that made sense. Unless you're somehow inferring "humans" were somehow better when we just ate plants. Which never happened, as our ancestors were definitely omnivorous long before we were anything close to recognizable as human. On top of which, the increased energy value of the carnivorous lifestyle helped in the development of the brain (an energetically expensive organ) to the state it is now.
