User avatar #9 - DCat (10/01/2013) [-]
Here. This is what icaruslives said over on the Social board when someone asked.

"If you're being serious, I'll explain. Basically congress every year has to pass a bill that finances the American Government, and this year the house ( Which majority Republicans) was refusing to pass the bill unless they postponed Obamacare or at least made changes to it. The problem is, the Senate, which is run by democrats, refuses to pass anybill with changes to Obamacare so there was a huge stalemate and no one would compromise. Now before you think it is the Houses fault, you have to know a few things. First of all, the senate is acusing the House of not compromising, but as the date drew closer, the Senate refused to meet to make any proposals so they didn't contribute much to setlement either. And if you're wonder why Obamacare is important in any way, its sort of because obamacare legislature was approved without any consent from the republican party and costs 1/6 of the national economy. So Republicans are a bit pissed off and hellbent on getting rid of it, even if it means that the government will be shut down. And by government shutdown, that means about 700.000 government workers will be "unemployed" as of tomorrow morning at 10 am. These workers are deemed unnecessary or not as important to the continuation of our government. People like Park rangers, some public relations people and such. This happened last in 1995 for about 20 days, and while government shutdown of a few days shows no real signifigant effect on the US, one of over a week would be some real problems."

I wonder who the genius was who decided that having basically only two parties in charge of things was in any way a good idea.

Didn't think it was that serious. They've got two weeks anyways. Hopefully they'll get all this sorted out.
User avatar #197 - rhinocerous (10/02/2013) [-]
I think the country is too worried about Miley Cyrus to worry about our economy. Honestly, most of the population deserves this for not being aware with what's going on.
User avatar #206 - DCat (10/02/2013) [-]
The way I see it, is this country should just keep to itself for a while and work on its own problems before being the world police some more.
#211 - rhinocerous (10/02/2013) [-]
My thoughts exactly, buddy.
User avatar #68 - cshp (10/01/2013) [-]
The majority or republicans are for Obamacare, only the "tea party" republicans (super hardcore republicans, like Space Marine mentality) are against it and don't mind the shutdown because that means Obamacare won't be able to receive funding. Almost every important political person is for Obamacare, besides the tea party, is for Obamacare.
#132 - funnymanohword (10/02/2013) [-]
Not true at all, the majority of Republicans are against Obamacare. Not just conservatives or tea party members. If most were for it, the house wouldn't have made moves to get rid of Obamacare.

so unless someone or both decides to flex then shit will slowly but surely be lowered into the fan

kinda makes me wonder who the people would blame if they simply let the thing stand as it is.

as a fan of entropy (see video George Carlin Entropy fan ) truly hope this spirals down into violence.
#110 - jabzilla (10/02/2013) [-]
im gladly sitting here with a few bags of popcorn watching this unfold and a part of me is really keeping hope that entropy happens so we can finally over throw the idiots in charge of the government and fix the problems with lovely violence and mass murders of government officials because those assholes kinda deserve it. also lets get some bankers too. but not my local bank...theres this girl whose totally adorable...so we cant get all the bankers. just the CEOs n Congressional kinda of peaople
User avatar #234 - commontroll (10/02/2013) [-]
Honestly, people just doing business is fine. Just killing people because they're rich and slightly take advantage of people is no reason to murder them, and will just make us like the French Revolution. That's not a good thing by the way.

However, the federal government needs to be redone. It's time for change and for America to not be so ally-tastic and imperialistic. I would honestly love to lead a coup and then just let somebody else take charge. That's honestly the best way to have the government redone. If the people who led a rebellion had themselves lead the nation afterward, then it would just be yet another coup and another corrupt government.
#288 - jabzilla (10/02/2013) [-]
obviously you are correct on the second part of your comment but the first part not so much. the people I named (high banking CEOs and people in congress) are essentially the reason why we had the 2008 economic collapse. people who toyed with lives and barely got any more than a slap on the wrist. there was no accountability and because of this the people who helped ruin the economy and this country are still in charge. doesnt help that congress has a horrific approval rating yet we keep voting them in. I think they need to redo everything again. its time to modernize america and fix our problems instead of passing them onto the next guy. stop passing the buck. someone give us some damn honest answers. because obviously the media isnt to be trusted.
#290 - jabzilla (10/02/2013) [-]
does that mean kill them? no. was I a bit extreme in saying that? yes. but something needs to be done. and people need to get in trouble. the american people are fed up and our votes have never really counted like they should, and to be fair part of the problem is that americans have no clue who they are voting for. its partially our fault for not being educated enough. but the people who ruined us also need to be held accountable and the american people need to be informed properly. its a big problem and idk if a coup would fix everything but someone needs to stop this country before it becomes more of a police state.
User avatar #289 - commontroll (10/02/2013) [-]
So, modernizing means killing off the rich because they do mean things? Completely unnecessary. Worst case scenario, just remove the really bad ones from their companies. Or, defund their companies their bailouts from the government. See, that was the problem, the government gave a bailout to the people for shooting themselves in the foot.

But killing people because we lost lots of jobs... that's a lot more monstrous than those bankers.

Take away the government supporting a company dying because it's being led by horrible businessmen and you'll lose these companies that are refusing to progress. If a company falls behind, let it rot. Instead we put it on life support and give it millions.

So again, just comes back to the Federal Government.
#292 - jabzilla (10/02/2013) [-]
i dont have any answers except to bring the people who helped cause this mess to justice, give the american people the truth and to stop messing with the media, and finally just for the government to stop this game of spying on everyone. follow the constitution like we should have in the first place. the bill of rights is important. the government seems to ignore those when they do anything now...which isnt making any sense and hopefully some good will finally come from this. the government is the problem and its not going to go away until we as a people do something a little more than bitch about it on the internet lol cuz thats all ive been able to do. I wanna do more to help but im not as intelligent as others out there and I hope they make the right choices when they make their move to fix this country. until they do all I can do is go to work and watch the news and laugh at how silly it is to have the government fight its self when we could be improving things.
#291 - jabzilla (10/02/2013) [-]
lol no modernizing means having the government become more transparent, informing the public properly, keeping track of the funds, and making sure the people in this country get a proper voting chance. I want america to be great again. as we stand now, the government really is a mess and it needs help.
User avatar #29 - metalmind (10/01/2013) [-]

User avatar #200 - rocksteady (10/02/2013) [-]

User avatar #36 - DCat (10/01/2013) [-]
Don't talk to me about it. I just copied and pasted it.
User avatar #40 - metalmind (10/01/2013) [-]
Not that I care that much anyway about the issue, since I'm in a great country with a functional government, and in a state with 3% unemployment.
But it is somehow sad to see how other countries fail.
#215 - anonymous (10/02/2013) [-]
Haha, really ?

I can't think of any country "successing" (since you talk about "failing") right now, could you tell me which is it ? I'd like to check
User avatar #255 - metalmind (10/02/2013) [-]
And where I live, in Bavaria, the unemployment is currently at 3,6%. (Although it is lower in some regions).
I live in a vilage where our major managed to completely renovate the village center (completely new roads, subsidized rebuilding old houses, completely rebuilt the school for about 20 million). And all that with the budget of a village.

And meanwhile the government in Italy is breaking apart, and the government in the USA shut down.

#233 - alexanderh (10/02/2013) [-]
Denmark is doing pretty well.
We're handling the crisis very well, we've pretty much recovered from it. The average citizen doesn't really notice anymore.
Our government has got some debt, but that is natural after a crisis. The debt is going down, though, so we're in the end phase of the financial crisis.

Unless, that is, the US fucks Europe over again, which could be really fucking bad for some of the European countries that aren't doing so well, which would affect the entirety of Europe.
#237 - anonymous (10/02/2013) [-]
Still waiting for metalmind's answer but I guess it was a troll.

Denmark, yeah man if I remember well your debt is around half your GDP ? That's actually pretty good (compared to most European countries including mine). I've read you've been reducing it for a long time though, 10 years or something, you didn't wait for the 2008 crisis. (I don't know your country a lot, sorry)

If success means reducing your debt, then yes okay, I guess Denmark is succeeding. my god did i really write "successing" earlier?... (but I don't think we can reduce "success" to this only, it would be too easy... But then again it would take too long to compare everyrthing)
User avatar #256 - metalmind (10/02/2013) [-]
Not a troll. It's just that we probably live in different time zones.
#238 - alexanderh (10/02/2013) [-]
We're doing well in general, not just about debt. The economy in general is doing well, we've had stable growth in GDP for at least 10 years in a row, if not more.
It's a bit hard to find jobs for me, but that seems to be the way it is for people around the age of 20, not only because of the financial crisis.
We also have a high social equality.

Basically, we're doing well in general, not just on debt.

your right, they made a massive game full of content, yet its not good enough for you because the online isn't perfect yet.. okay yeah that makes sense, send in your application, because I'm sure you know 100% how to fix the problem and you can have it done in a matter of hours, go on, fix it..fix the problem..you cant? then stop bitching about it and play the offline until its ready, or go play another damn game.

People pay $60 bucks for games only with a fragment of the content and play time in GTA V. The online isn't dead forever and will be up and running perfectly most likely only in a matter of days.
