this is true, the DSM (diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) is so vast and encompassing that having almost any emotional reaction to any given event cane be considered a mental disorder of some kind. Besides this you need to look at the statistics for all these so called "diseases" I'm not saying ADD/ADHD isn't a thing but when you see that the vast majority of ADHD children are boys, and boys are known to be hyper active, you gotta use a little common sense and think "maybe there is noting wrong with this kid and he's just being a boy" If your first reaction to seeing the statistics on a mental disorder is "Wow this can't be true" your probably right.

Shyness and social anxiety disorder have clear differences and most good psychiatrists (who you should go to for any meds you're getting for mental illness not your regular doctor because they are not trained in this and often give doses too weak or just ineffective meds) know that distinction. (social anxiety disorder is more akin to a phobia. People who are shy adapt to a situation, people with social anxiety disorder do not and display avoidant behavior (not making eye contact is a big one but other one's like standing apart from the group etc exist) also social anxiety disorder is not a constant trait, it gets considerably worse over time if not treated. It also has an onset age (again shyness is a trait it does not have an onset age). Also social anxiety disorder has a high rate of comorbidity with depression and alcoholism (again shyness being a trait is not).

I remember when I was in middle school and the teachers use to put both "slow" kids and misbehaving kids into a "gifted" class.
a few of those kids were my friends, I knew for a fact that they weren't slow(they just didnt care all that much about school(since 10-12 year olds get bored easily) but it was the schools lazy way of dealing with kids and pretty much leaving them behind so they cant catchup.
and kids are mean so they used to call kids in the "gifted" class retards for some reason. so when they started highschool I guess they learned their lessons and started taking school seriously..

But it is indeed a very valid point.
All i am saying is, and this is my opinion only.
The reason that posts like this is even true, is because uneducated people makes statements that educated people should be making.
For example, a psychiatrist would not make a statement that a "loner" is depressed, nor vice versa, in most cases anyways, but people that dont know shit about the human mind, watched some tv program once about depression, and now think they are able to tell the difference.
So i think that many of these statements that are possibly leading some people to depression is because uneducated people think they know everything..
And yea, english is not my mothers tongue, so i may have made some typos here and there, sue me!

Except plenty of psychiatrists and doctors incorrectly diagnose shit. My sister was developing a stomach ulcer, and she had to go through like 5 doctors before one was finally smart enough to give her a proper check up and diagnosed it properly. All of the other ones listened to her and basically said "Just take some advil and the problems with go away".
