I must have explained it badly. I wanted to be marine because i think they're hardcore badass mother fuckers, which i want to be. The problem is i'm not physically capable to start boot camp which is why they won't send me in yet. I'll definitely ask about avionics and things in that nature. Yeah I now realize that traveling with the navy would also mean traveling around the world or at least that's what I hear seamen get to do. Definitely bumped aircrew up to the point i'll try to be doing that. For some reason up until now i just assumed working on them jets meant being stationed in a base.
User avatar #114 - corps (01/22/2015) [-]
You don't need to be physically capable to start boot camp or even get through it. Trust me, the Marines will take care of you. All you need to get through boot camp is determination. Of course physical fitness helps, but after you swear in to the Marine Corps the recruiters gather the poolees together every Thursday and do PT to help everyone prepare for boot camp. If you talk to a Marine Corps recruiter they would probably let you do PT even before you swore in just so you could see how you took it. The first few times is the worst, but you get used to it pretty fast.

If you want to go into the Marine Corps, you should never doubt yourself. Don't wait for it to happen, take it. If you want to be a Marine get yourself in as good shape as you can and the Corps will do the rest.

If you have any questions I'd be happy to help.

Yeah I do PT but I don't like going because they sometimes do some team type exercises and I'm holding everybody back. Like all of them were fit except for me. I don't care that i'm not yet fit it's just i feel shitty when i make literally everybody else's work out unbeneficial/worse. We did like this indian run thing where we're running in line and the last person sprints to the front. The gap was fucking huge thanks to me. Felt like an asshole. I ended up faking trying to throw up to stop so they could go on without me.
User avatar #128 - corps (01/24/2015) [-]
Nah don't worry about it dude. Don't think of it like you're holding them back, think of it like they are pushing you forward.

My first time I did PT I hadn't ran in quite a while and I actually DID throw up, I ran around the gym twice just looking for the restroom. Each lap is half a mile I'd like to note, and on that occasion we were actually doing the indian run as well I finally found the restroom though. I bet I looked like shit. The week after that, apparently some guy puked in one of the water fountains.

But everybody is feeling the pain too, it's not just you. PT really gets easier every single time. When I run I hardly even feel it anymore. It definitely helps to run on your own time too, though. I like to run when the sun is setting because it gets nice and cool outside.

Yeah I took my MEPS already and I can choose up to the day I go for boot camp. Whatever the fuck you're doing sounds good to me so I'll try to ask about that. My recruiter told me that anything intelligence/cryptologic/information would get me top secret clearance but i'd end up in the front lines which would be terrifying. From what I've read I'd only be guaranteed a job in the field of my choice, which is why I have to choose very wisely. My main worries are my physical fitness, which is pathetic, and having a safe job. I planned on transferring after my term since marines don't redo boot camp for transfers, but my friend says marines never transfer because of loyalty or some shit. I run and my time gets lower, but I lift and I feel like i'm getting weaker.

I'm a fucking dumb shit. Scored 80 on ASVAB and not literally YOLO'd and joined the US Marine Corps. Thought go hard or go home. Hopefully this isn't the worst decision of my life. MOS? Don't even know which one to choose. First World/nerd problems. Qualify for every job on aptitude test and still don't know what to do. Gonna ask what job is the safest and most in demand and choose that most likely. I believe that'll take me into electronics or working on jets or some other shit like that.
tfw don't know shit about mechanics and will probably get a job in that field.

College and or job and shit while I sell 4~8 years of my life and possible life itself away to the government. I really doubt your friends are doing anything as respectable as us.

I've been there for three tours, I know more about what happens there and how "acceptable" losses are brushed away. It's not just USA there.

When I wish you luck, hoping you avoid a firefight, you best fucking just appreciate the gesture. Unless you're one of the few that join just to have a legal way of killing someone, of course.

based on the terminology you've used I'm about 99% sure you've never served.
#152 - fefe (01/21/2015) [-]
Right. Terminology is what decides whether or not you've served. Can you tell me the proper terminology other countries have (other languages rather)?

You know what, I don't care anymore. The worst things I have ever done in my life, I did while serving. It's over there I saw just how truly evil men can be. I was like you as well, looking forward and so proud of serving alongside those honorable people. I really hope your experience differs from my own, I hope when you go to bed years from now you manage to sleep peacefully.

I clicked on your username to go to your profile and sat here staring at it for a few minutes because the sections are all out of whack and I was confused as hell for a minute.

The "visible sections" button or whatever it's called at the top-ish part of the page, it should be near your username. I use it to hide the comment section on my profile cause I've had people in the past who have redthumb bombed me.
#26 to #25 - blackmanrollipolli (01/29/2015) [-]
yeah i should probably hide it. How the hell do you have so many thumbs within a month of creating your account.
User avatar #27 to #26 - corps (01/29/2015) [-]
Haha I don't even know, man. I don't really come on here as much as I used to but I guess I just learned what people thought was funny. I've got quite a few top comments, that's probably why.
