That's true, but they should really develop a better system.
First, placing men and women in same category isn't right, because of completely different weight distribution and musculature and bone density.
Second people who do physically heavy labor, like construction or farming will be very strong built, and then they get screwed on health insurance because their BMI shows they are overweight or obese and their premiums go up. Even though they are strong and healthy as horses.

There is a better system, my dad is a doctor and he talks about the system they use, i cant remember the name of it but basically they measure the height vs chest vs stomach vs thigh width and weigh you and take measurements of belly pinchings/rolls.

he says it is very accurate because it takes into account age gender and different fat groups.

however the average person is still considered obese by that scale and medical obesity is pretty much anything other than athletically healthy, thin or muscled.

BMI is an flawed system that classifies all types of weight in same drawer.
If you are heavily muscled with only slightly over the average fat it will classify you as morbidly obese. Because muscles are heavier then fat.
The guy on the picture would be classified as morbidly obese on the BMI charts.

very well put! there is actually another test that is more accurate called the Body Adiposity Index

I know, but in reference to fat people who do little to no exercise it's more appropriate. It's like arguing kidney function tests are flawed because muscular people and men have higher levels of creatinine, you just have to take these things into account when evaluating someone's health.

If someone has a cold, etc, I think it's customary or at least polite for them to wear a mask as an indicator and to help stop it spreading. Something like that anyway. Sort of a common courtesy.

Can you learn a lot by self teaching?
User avatar #37 - biomedic (03/15/2014) [-]
Yeah, I started by pirating rosetta stone, then I discovered it's actually terrible, so just started reading russain texts online and finding entry level lecture notes. I wouldn't recommend teaching yourself though if you have an alternative, because you can tell yourself something and then figure out later on it's completely wrong, and it's hard to change what you think you know. Especially with weird sentence structures.
Also I'm no expert, I gave up, but that's my experience with it anyway.

You seem to have some FJ points, which are used in the FJ collecting game and nothing else,
if you're willing to give them away just click this link: www.funnyjunk.com/items/4236130#4236130
and click the (T) next to my name. Send them using the arrow next to the points.
Note that they will not affect your thumbs in anyway.
