Actually that bit about Katy Perry is not true, they broke up when she was doing her world tour and was unable to go anywhere and on the off chance that she did has some ability to leave she went to see him where he was. I'm not sure if he was filming a movie at the time or what, but the fact that she always had to go to him despite her being the one who was on the strict schedule. That being said, I don't know if that's what she's like now and I could care less.
My girlfriend watched that katy perry movie on netflix, that's the only reason I know this.

I understand that we probably aren't going to agree on this topic and that doesn't really bother me. I don't think you would personally discriminate against somebody. However, feminism isn't only for America. There are girls in India as young as 13 being traded as brides like property. There are countries which allow a woman to own a car but they are not allowed to drive it. Most of the work in America has been done and it is just small tweaks left to work on (and that will take a long time). But we need to use feminism to support those women and girls elsewhere that need our support, if only for a little while. Just look at Malala Yousafzai. She got shot in the head just for encouraging the education of women. We need to fight for her and every girl who wants to learn.
There are countries where women are left illiterate and if they need to go to the hospital they can't even fill out paper work to save their own or loved one's lives.

I know this isn't the best comparison because it is comparing women to the disabled but I can't think of a better one right now. Just because the average person is not disabled does not mean that we should not have ramps along with stairs.
Yes, women tend to get pregnant more often than men (something to do with a uterus?) but you can't pay women less and charge them more for health issuance (which is only changing now).

I'm not doubting your experiences or that you've seen men go on "child-rearing" leave, but you cannot deny that women are 100% more likely to get pregnant then men, and therefore more likely to leave work - not only that, but it is more typical for a woman to go on maternity leave than a man.
I'm sure you've seen women do very tough things, but I meant on average - in general - just like car insurance.

On average, women get paid less than men no matter what their situation is. What if a woman's husband was crippled in an accident and she also had children to care for? She should be paid equally for her work so that she can support her family. It is not the employer's business what happens to the family at home or who is supposed to be the bread winner, we should all be paid equally for the same work.
Also, that isn't fair to the women who won't or can't have children. Or women who adopt. I think that is somebody made you so the same work as me and you got the short end of the stick you might feel differently.

YOu don't need to fight for women to get paid the same as men.

Employees are an investment a company makes - that is to say, the company expects return on the time and money they spent training that employee.
So when a woman gets pregnant and goes on maternity leaves, the company loses money - they have to train another employee, whatever. It has nothing to do with "who society thinks would do a better job."

Furthermore, studies have shown men are more willing to stay at work longer, work nights and weekends, and work outside and in the elements.
User avatar #285 - biker (01/11/2014) [-]
That is assuming the woman goes on maternity leave. Men can also take extended leave from work to help raise their children (as it should be).
I also doubt that men are willing to do those things more than women. I work at both a stable and a barn and I know more women than men who are willing to lose all social time to work (myself included and I don't get paid for most of my work).
Also, the men get paid for over-time. It's fine if one person works for 7 hours gets paid less than somebody who works 10, but they should be paid the same by the hour.
