Even if games are considered luxury items, they have a strangely inelastic demand curve. The increase in price will not change the quantity demanded by much. Another example of an item with an inelastic demand curve would be insulin, for a diabetic (the hardcore audience) they will buy the insulin at any price, because they need it, and they will buy the amount they need, one cannot skimp on insulin. Now I am unsure why there is an inelastic demand curve for games, perhaps parents just buy the most popular games to get their kids to stop annoying them, not paying attention to the quality of the good, perhaps there is a genuine need for entertainment by the consumers of video games and other methods are incapable of meeting the need of the consumers. But to have the control of the price in the hands of the suppliers generally ends in market revolt, as consumers deem buying the good by conventional methods is more costly then storming the gates and taking their stuff. There is a tipping point, and it is entirely possible that there will be a consumer revolt against steam, in similar fashion to #gamergate.

The company doesn't make the mods. Users make the mods, and steam workshop takes 75% of the fucking revenue from said mods. Most of the users that put their mods up for sale, use content stolen from other, free to download mods, and Valve says that it's okay for them to profit from other people's intellectual property.

Let me repeat that. Valve says it's okay to sell other people's intellectual property.

its more than just that. people are fans of the series and dont want to see it ruined.

It's not even the original creators though. The person who writes the code makes the rules. If it ends up being that bad, I'm sure EA will put out some sort of way to rectify that. Or we can buy it on the PC and mod the shit out of it until Roman starts calling you up to go bowling again.

Oh was the series not ruined by the godawful prequels? By the endless moneygrubbing of its creater and patriarch? Or do you simply mean fans of the Battlefront series, in which case I have this point: just because you enjoyed an earlier version of something doesn't mean you deserve to have a say which is really an understatement, these people are demanding the new game be the exact same just with a reskin over the direction of the new game. Especially when the new developers really don't have any connection to the old ones.

vegan or vegetarian? no hate, i'm just curious. i can definitely see vegetarian, but if you're vegan I'd love to know why :) whenever i ask a vegan in a class they turn they're cheek like ive insulted them or they don't want to waste their time :(
User avatar #2 to #1 - bigbeaufort ONLINE (01/04/2013) [-]
Vegetarian actually. But my sister and her significant other are vegan for the purpose that a lot of research shows that dairy is not as healthy for you as everyone says. I believe it I just find cheese and milk too good to pass up.
User avatar #3 to #2 - lunarlizzy (01/04/2013) [-]
Yeah, cheese is amazing :) i have pet goats and i make homemade goat cheese, that is probably why i'm not vegan :D that and fish. Any idea why dairy is bad for you? it was my understanding that we have been conditioned to it

Basically milk has such a high concentration of calcium that it actually leeches the calcium from your bones rather than increasing bone density. Usually milk is fortified with vitamin D to aid in the absorption of calcium into your bones. But there is still an over-saturation of calcium making it a still unhealthy by definition.

A documentary that covers the subject in great detail (better than I can explain through just words) is "Forks Over Knives". It's actually what helped my sister decide to switch from vegetarianism to vegan.
