Firstly look at my name, obviously not an American. Seems a bit blind. Actually I don't believe the same things as the PETA people but because I'm not close minded I can sympathise with their position and understand that under their belief system (which I disagree with) they are acting morally to act the way they did. But if you still find me close minded please engage me in debate as I have opened my self up for intelligent reasonable debate. I think you are the one showing a close minded attitude by not even giving my argument a chance. Force feeding vegetarians meat is also awful, to them it is equivalent to force feeding them babies. Seems extreme but that's how they feel.

So if it was legal to murder children for sport, then the only way to change that would be through discussion? Who should be involved in this discussion and decision process anyway, only the people who have the rights now, in this case humans? If we only let the humans make the decision process and don't think about the animal's position, we have already chosen the conclusion before we've started a debate. It is like only letting nazis debate whether jews are human! All I'm saying is if you see killing animals as murder, then whether it is in the law or not you're going to do everything in your power to stop the murder. Laws can me wrong, the anti-gay laws in russia and other places, treatment of women in saudi arabia ect. Should you just tolerate being a woman or gay in said countries just cos the law says so, or do you break it to give you your freedom? If laws go against rights then rights win right? If so if animals have rights then they hold precedence over the law. If you believe then that animals have rights, obeying the law is not going to be good enough. The law is what is wrong in their eyes not their actions. We must therefore be sympathetic to them.

Do we tolerate everything or are there things we don't tolerate? Eg murder, abuse, even intolerance. If so what criteria do we use to justify intolerance?
#97 - bhmendes (08/09/2014) [-]
Law is a good criteria. While something isn't illegal, you must tolerate it. If you disagree, try to convince people, reasonably, so it becomes illegal. Is THAT simple.
