I've been researching about importations to my country, and there's a chance that my budget gets bigger, and I might also be able to get either a 980 or the RX.

So I'm at a crossroad here: should I go for the kill and get a 980 or wait a bit and buy the RX?

Well, wait until the release 27th of june i believe and go look at some benchmarks when the NDA is lifted, might give you an idea of what you can expect of the card, and whether it's worth it

Oh you have no idea. But I can take care of that myself so don't worry too much about it.

It's not very whealty in terms of products, specially gpus, but my friend here got a pretty nice one and in really good condition, so I won't lose hope yet.

I've been researching about RX and it sounds like it's a blast. Problem is I'm more of an nvidia guy. Should I take the risk and jump to it? Or instead try to go for an 980?

If you can find a used GTX980 sure, but otherwise the RX should be fine. I had considered getting one myself, but am limited since i'm using a Gsync monitor. Nvidia admittedly does deliver the best performance most of the time, but there's no denying that AMD delivers most bang-for-the-buck if you're on a budget.

I don't really want to use a 4K LED setup or anything like that, I just want a card that can hold itself pretty well for a few couple years and can withstand some upgrades along the way.

And I'm going to check out the RX, although being new and all that might be a problem where I'm living.

I'd reckon it should be available for import through amazon, but i've honestly never tried importing anything to Argentina before i guess.

But sure, the GTX970 should be a good card, as long as you're aware of the limitations. Another alternative would be to grab a used GTX980, although i've no idea how the used market works where you live.

I wish I could, but due to my budget and the country I'm living, this is the best I can afford.
And I was asking you precisely because of the controversy surrounding it, what should I be wary of?
User avatar
#110 - besle (06/21/2016) [-]
Well, you might experience problems or drawbacks in memory hungry applications, since your card won't be able to use all of its VRAM efficiently.

But i'd reckon the RX 480 should be in your price range as well, which is out in a week or so.
