ill start with him stealing a dane cook joke and end with him telling young people not to vote because the system is broken

exactly. "Dont like how the countries ran? Pft dont try to change it. Leave it so only the supporters of those two shit parties to vote. Magically a third good party will materialise"

so you agree that telling people not to vote is dumb
#66 - anon (04/16/2015) [-]
Well, the American system is broken. A two party system, where people are chosen based on their wealth or abillity to get rich backers This is of caourse an exaggeration , and not their merits in a political party and their politics is not true democracy, but something closer to a oligarchy.

the system is fine the people are the problem. anyone who says two party system is part of the problem as far as im concerned. anyone who truly believes there are only democrats and republicans and no one else has a chance to win needs to be smacked upside the head. in the us only about 30 percent vote during midterm elections and 40 percent during presidential. and they dont even vote for whos running anything. in alaska we had a near record turnout of 40 percent and a large portion of those voted for weed and a raise on the minimum wage then went home. we have all the power in the world to fix the problem but more than half of the country doesnt want to take an hour out of there day to go in and say this person has the best plan
User avatar
#98 - benjaminbutton (04/16/2015) [-]
The problem is the voting system. We use first past the vote, and that always leads to a bipartisanship. Why? Well because when choosing our candidate we say "Well I really like this green party guy, but I really hate Romney, so I will vote for Obama because he actually has a chance of winning." It comes down to the lesser of two evils in our minds. If we used the alternative vote, though this too eventually leads to bipartisanship, it would allow us to rank our votes, as opposed to just voting for one.

We also need to stop having over-glorified campaigns, and focus on what each president wants to accomplish. But it doesn't matter. Money rules the world. I cannot say for certain, but with the house and congress locked in a 50/50 split, it seems corporations have got their hands into the system and are influencing where they want the country to go. The whole election is merely a grandiose show, a theater to make people feel like they are making a difference, when they could potentially be doing nothing at all. As for the voter turnout going down, this is not necessarily a bad thing. If you do not know what the candidates are running for, or are not privy in politics, then do not vote. Don't just vote because you can, voting is a right which necessitates that you can do it, or you cannot do it. If you said everyone has to vote, then it isn't a right anymore, but an obligation.

I want to end this by saying that the corporation thing could be entirely false, but it does appear businesses are playing a huge part in all of this.
#157 - fiahhawt (04/16/2015) [-]
Apparently, the US started out with a system where if there was no candidate with a majority, a second vote was held to decide between the two candidates with the most votes. I don't know why we got rid of this, but I can only imagine the reason will make me angry.

#159 - benjaminbutton (04/16/2015) [-]
I couldn't tell you, I am no well versified in politics or history, not really my forte. However, I do know that, I believe it was Jefferson, who said we should not have any parties and simply state what we stand for, if memory serves correctly.

first and foremost people need to educate themselves. second they need to vote fo who they think will do the best job not who they think will win.

fewer people voting is not a good thing. the main reason for this is the people who actually vote. the people who consistently vote are older people. older people tend to be more set in their ways and dont even look at the moderates. part of the reason ron paul didnt make it to the actual election is he wasnt replublican enough for the republican party. thats the kind of thinking that needs to be eliminated. how do you fix that? with us. the people who realise the people in power are not doing their jobs.

don young has been in the house of representatives for almost as long as alaska has been a state. i voted for him because i agree with what hes said. most vote for him because hes don young and has always been there. thats the problem the people who have voted for the same guy every two years for almost 50 years will continue to vote for the same guy. the younger people who arent going out and voting will have a different veiw on the subject and will vote, hopefully, for someone else unless they truly believe that one of the two is right

i mean really there were four names on the presidential ballot if i remember correctly.
to me the lesser of two evils excuse is a copout. there is no excuse you thought he was the best for the job or you dont want to be judged for your decision
#158 - fiahhawt (04/16/2015) [-]
Well, by your reasoning a two-party system works great in a dystopian society where everyone is required to exist within the confines of what you think makes a two-party system work.

Just because you think people need to or should do these things does not make it reasonable to ignore what people actually do. Which, from what you talk about, seems to be the thing you are less familiar with, but I can't say I blame you when you live in Alaska.
User avatar
#161 - sketchE (04/17/2015) [-]
i have no idea what your trying to say. i dont think a two party system works. it the failure of the people to allow it to happen
User avatar
#140 - benjaminbutton (04/16/2015) [-]
Yes, but that does not necessitate that people must educate themselves in something they are not interested in, such as politics. You can call the lesser of two evils a copout, but that does not stopping it from being true. It has nothing to do with being judged, moreso than it has to do with keeping the person you really hate out of office--that's the key point of it. Give the people a ranking system, and that will help. It's an easy fix. Further, why do we only have two parties? It's backwards, but keeping ti black and white is something that we can only seem to focus on. An Us vs Them mentality is exactly what is going on right now, and it is sickening. And more people voting will not stop the deadlock we have in our government. The electoral college also limits our power by giving people in power access to changing electoral lines. It always comes down to the same swing states more often than not, and from there, it's the same old song and dance. We vote, we give ourselves a pat on the back as though we accomplished something, when in fact at this moment, voting is just wasting time.

Fewer and fewer people will vote over time, I believe, and soon the government will have to change. The system we have going right now is stuck in its way, does not much care for the people, and the people are noticing, and going about there own business, trying to have a good life without all this God tier let's-make-it-as-complex-as-possible-to- confuse-the-public bullshit. We need to simplify government, reduce it to digestible parts so that maybe people will actually make some effort to get involved. But all the rhetoric and fancy talk for relatively simple business is what turns the average voter away.

then make your voice heard where it matters and not here. by all means use funnyjunk and other social media rally people get them together force the governmetn to understand and reevalute that what theyre doing is wrong. but there is no sense in complaining about something behind closed doors if you dont want to try and change it.

thats my entire point. sitting there saying things need to change but not doing something as simple as voting is ludicrous and counter productive. there were five names on the presidential election ballot. thats why to me the lesser of two evils excuse is a copout. green party libertarian and write on. all of those were optionsyet people who hate the two party system dont acknowledge them

no, think of it as a man with a coat.
He thinks this coat is a very special coat and is the best coat in the world, so he wears it all the time. Most other people don't see the coat and most others still don't understand his coat.
Since his coat is so majestic, he gets anxious or worried whenever someone touches it, for fear that something bad will happen.
Sometimes his fear gets so irrational that he starts to get really moody and mad.
He can't help it.

Most of the time, he wants to take off this coat, maybe leave it in a box under the bed or burn it to the ground, but for some reason, his coat is always with him.

that's what it's like.

Apologies if it seemed dramatic, I couldn't find any better metaphors.

The Fallout series. That's what they're from. They appeared in the very first game and have been there ever since. They appear in two different forms in Fallout 2, Centaur and Mean Centaur. There are also three different kinds of them in Fallout: New Vegas: Centaur, Evolved Centaur, and Giant Evolved Centaur.

According to the wiki, they're "results of the Forced Evolutionary Virus gone horribly wrong." Can't say I disagree. It also states that they're made by tossing a variety of humans, dogs and other, unspecified animals into an FEV vat.

If you meant just the picture, then it's concept art for the Fallout 3 Centaurs.

i do have a project in mind but it needs solid machining rather then printing as it needs to be made of metal, imagine a dual spin kinetic dynamo with a lithium belt that is self charging to power anything you wish, works like an oversized watch but no face and has a waterproof plug on the side to connect to gear, could even build a gauntlet with 2-3 of them built in wired as a set, they free spin like a bike wheel in dual directions each collecting energy waste, one unit if built properly could create quite a bit of power with the right parts.

violence can destroy. destruction in it's own is not bad, just a natural process.
violence, when applied sparingly, makes the delicacy of arguing much more rewarding if you win. especially when you're not the one who done it.

There's a difference to violence and destruction. Violence causes destruction, but destruction is not only caused by violence. Violence is caused by imbalance and by insecurity, and if met by more imbalance and insecurity, it will only escalate. If you instead meet it with calm balance and a caring heart, then it will soothe down and you will be able to create instead of destroying.

Well my name is Troels (don't try to pronounce it), and I'm 19 years old and live in Denmark. I like music, computers and tonnes of other random ****, hehe.
I play guitar and sing (preferrably not at the same time), and I'm the vocalist of a tiny hard rock band here in Århus c:
Well what do you do man? What's your story?
(Oh yeah, and I also founded the current Katawa Shoujo channel, which is the most succesful one too. No clue how that happened o.o )
#363 to #362 - benedicto (10/05/2013) [-]
I'm Watson.
i'm a 12 year old yep, cancer. sorry. or well, 13, since my birthday's in around a week.
i'm from the Philippines, a tiny bunch of islands that's been raped by three countries both literally and figuratively in history. i just use the internet because i have no friends within a five mile radius to visit. i try playing piano and singing, but i suck at both. oh well.
i like any genre of music, but it all depends on the song. yes, even metal sometimes.
other than that, i like using the internet, things that don't kill me within 20 months, and technology in general.

also in real life i tend to be introverted, though it depends.
#364 to #363 - Kairyuka (10/05/2013) [-]
Welp nice to meet you Watson c:
Do you have a favorite band or something?
#365 to #364 - benedicto (10/05/2013) [-]
hm......
can't say i do. my lack of friends just make mew pretty out of if.
mind recommending me some? if that's okay.
#367 to #365 - benedicto (10/05/2013) [-]
crap, how the hell did that mew get there.
....i need to dronk some water.

oh yeah, and i like anime and Vocaloid.
just thought you ought to know.
#374 to #372 - Kairyuka (10/05/2013) [-]
I suppose I like anime, although I don't really watch any any more. Most recently I watched Attack on Titan. I prefer reading manga for now. I still love the art though.
#370 to #369 - benedicto (10/05/2013) [-]
now i want to play again.
*and fail horribly. weeeeee.*
#371 to #370 - Kairyuka (10/05/2013) [-]

You're 12, can't you ask your parents?
#376 to #375 - benedicto (10/05/2013) [-]
my parents are........
strict on spending. if they buy me something, good. but those moments are rare and far between.
#377 to #376 - Kairyuka (10/05/2013) [-]
Oh I see :/
#378 to #377 - benedicto (10/05/2013) [-]
hey, why does the internet hate 12 year olds anyway?
#379 to #378 - Kairyuka (10/05/2013) [-]
Well because with "12-year olds" they're really talking about immature faggots. I know immature faggots older than 40, so it's not a thing about age
#380 to #379 - benedicto (10/05/2013) [-]
oh. explains a lot.
#381 to #380 - Kairyuka

#316 to #315 - hydromatic (08/21/2013) [-]
My sister is 12 and imagining her being on this site is just weird.

But oh well, nothing wrong with it i suppose.
#317 to #316 - benedicto (08/21/2013) [-]
please, to be honest, i'm not your regular 12 year old. i know, lot's of people also say that, but here me out. what i'm about to say is pretty crazy, so if you don't want to believe it, then fine.
1. i've been on the internet since i was 2 years old, which has caused me to become addicted to the internet, and be a bit antisocial.
2. my social life is....well......i can count the number of people i can consider ''friends'' with my hands and feet alone.
3. i've seen a LOT of **** here.
i've been on /b/, seen the entirety of the encyclopediadramaticca ''offended?'' page, seen goatse, tubgirl, 2girls1cup, etc.
4. i'm probably gonna be the craziest and most perverted person you ever meet.

as i said, it's up to you if you want to believe me or not, but i'm telling you the truth.
#318 to #317 - hydromatic (08/21/2013) [-]
****, i was like this when i was 14 and i thought that was weird.

Well, hope you don't do anything stupid later in life that hurts someone or yourself.
You should probably cut down on it if you can. Just a little bit to start with atleast.

Lastly, take care of yourself, and don't forget the people around you.

I hope the internet doesn't **** you up too much
#320 to #318 - benedicto (08/21/2013) [-]
besides, how can you hurt someone if you can't reach them physically?
#321 to #320 - hydromatic (08/21/2013) [-]
I'm not the best at this..

Maybe you should see a psychiatrist or something?
#322 to #321 - benedicto (08/21/2013) [-]
my mom says it's just an ''attitude problem''
we'll see about that, i guess.....
#323 to #322 - hydromatic (08/21/2013) [-]
Good luck buddy
Good luck buddy
#324 to #323 - benedicto (08/21/2013) [-]
'thanks.
i'll need it.

well, see you.
#319 to #318 - benedicto (08/21/2013) [-]
it already did.
i've been here, and i've seen scat, gore, and things no sane man/woman should ever seen,
it has definitely left me mentally and psychologically scarred at least slightly.
it's too late for me...the few people i've managed to get along with say i exhibit psychotic tendencies.

and also, thanks for the pic.
