That's an unusually steep temperature.

Yeah, that's what I thought, I haven't found any GM literature stating it, and I don't have access to Mitchell ProDemand any more, but I found two different sources that claimed that, and the fan does kick on at 224 I found if it does get that hot, and during normal driving in cooler temps, what little bit I've done since then, it still floats around 185-195 cruising temperature, tstat temp is 180, so yeah, I dunno really, but I'm not gonna worry too much, I'm just gonna keep an eye on it and make sure that it is still kicking on. But yeah, all that I've read has said that higher temps like that are a normal thing for the ecotec motors.

Now that htat rant's over, yes, I realize that this is much more of a case of the issue being the dim bulb in between the driver's seat and the steering wheel... Oh well, live and learn so that one is that dim bulb less often I suppose.

Took her out for her maiden voyage today, a little valvetrain tick that I'm not exactly sure where it's coming from or why, but I'm just gonna keep an eye and ear on it and just not worry too much. Half tempted to toss it before something else goes wrong though and get something that I can work with a bit better, but we'll see, for now I'm just gonna drive it.

I will shortly, it's still kinda blocked into the garage right now, but that is indeed the next step, but, no leaks so far, no unhappy noises, and it seems to run well so that's a good sign that the timing is all correct too....

Yep, I seen it running with my own two eyes. Just need to double check and make sure that it's not leaking from anywhere and that the new thermostat opens up at the right temp, and then flush out the fluids again and then it's done.

I say go for it. The GS300 with the 2jz motor is also a good deal if you can find one that hasn't been beat to hell. Just be aware of the costs for premium fuel and synthetic oil.

Damn. Well, maybe it time to sell out and buy japanese. Civics are some of the few cars you just put gas in a change the oil until you get tired of them and upgrade. Same with corollas. Domestic cars would be the same if the manufacturers didn't use subpar material. New cars however are trash in general. Recalls are more common than gun violence.

Yeah, no, I refuse to do that. If this thing has any other issues I'm selling it and getting either an older GM b-body, or maybe a lexus SC400/LS400, if I can find a clean one.
