Rule #1 in dieting: Never make changes you can't stick to.

Changing your diet is a lifestyle change. Can't live without Pizza? Don't cut it out entirely. Don't make cheat days - just simply include it to your diet. Maybe make a healthier option. Personally I replaced my Pizza craving for Bruschetta. (Balsamic Vinegar, Diced tomatoes, Basil on Small bread slices - baked, sometimes with a bit of fresh mozzarella) But if you must have that Papa Johns - limit it. Make it once every few weeks, or even once a month if you can.

Don't eat at fast food joints. If you have to stand in line - don't eat it.

If you like fish, Replace your red meat with fish where you can. When you do go for the Steak - 4 to 6 Ounces is all you should eat. Go to outback and get the 12 oz? Eat a third, focus on teh salad/veges for the rest. Take it home - get 2 more meals out of it. Canned green beans will cover your veges.

All in all, it's just little changes here, little changes there until suddenly you're eating downright healthy, and the weight just starts to fall off.

Oh, and if you're just trying to lose weight, Cardio is the real way to go. It'll also make you feel much better. I'm on a computer 8+ hours a day due to work and hobbies. I have weights by my desk for when I can't step out - so I get having weights, and resistance training is great. However, if weight loss is your goal - you should spend 20 minutes between when you wake up and as you're preparing breakfast to go for a jog.

Best of luck!

The rule of thumb when dieting is to act like you NEVER going to cheat. Why? Because you will cheat. Its almost impossible not to. We are human, we get cravings, we need a breather etc. The difference in not thinking never to cheat, and cheating vs incorporating things you love to "cheat" meals inyour diet, is by doing that you psychologically open yourself to thinking cheating is ok in any form, which then typically leads to diet failure because you fall out of habit
#268 - ainise (08/04/2014) [-]
I changed my diet 4 years ago, and I haven't once cheated. I still make small alterations here and there, but it's rare for me to eat out, and if I do it's something I would have made at home anyways. Not everyone cheats. Sure, people get cravings - but you can easily fill those with something else. Or..oh..I don't know, ignore your cravings? If you need a breather from your diet, you've clearly screwed up your diet somewhere.

Also..good fucking god dude, what the hell is that logic? "Never cheating = cheating in all forms is okay!" Just..wat?
#277 - ragealicious (08/04/2014) [-]
Go back and reread. Just because you can do it, and i can do it, doesn't mean everyone else can. It all boils down to mental will.

What i stated was, incorporating cheating into your diet, gives people more of a chance to develop a habit of cheating, thus wrecking their diet. There have been numerous studies on it. We are all going to cheat at some point, the idea is just not to think its ok to do it casually.

You can't tell me you didn't have cake on your birthday, or eat anything that was outside of your normal diet regime(not talking just caloric values). I mean hell even i enjoyed my birthday, and still fit my macros into my diet. Before you trying devaluing a comment try reading it thoroughly

I changed my diet entirely, and did TONS of cardio. Back when i first started I LOVED running. I couldn't do much at first and was a mcdonalds junky, so i started out doing just half a mile. I pushed my self farther and farther, did some weight training, and by the end of the month i was consistently running 13-16 miles a day 3-4 days a week, benching 180 and just eating healthy. I think i might have gone to almost a keto style diet, i ate a lot of meat, protein shakes, skipped bread on meat/burgers/sandwiches etc and made up for it with better foods.

I also lived a lifestyle where i didnt have a car, and didnt want to pay for insurance just to get a drivers license with no care, so i walked 7 miles to my local college, 7 miles to my work and another 7 back home, doing 20 miles a day 5 days a week for a while.

that was 7 years ago and recently i gained another 20 lbs putting me at 180(im shrot, 5'8" - 5-9") and am in the process of working a sixpack out without any cardio at all(because my knees are shot from all that running lol), Ive currently lost another 17 lbs in about 4 weeks so good numbers there, and am making progress but its a slow one

I dont see a way to edit my previous but @ainise i do still have stretch marks from dropping the weight so fast. Its not suggested that you lose wieght so rapidly, its better to do it much slower health wise, or so i have heard but hey... damage was done lol

Honestly if you go from a sedentary lifestyle(IE: Sitting around for 16+ hours a day, then sleeping) to a moderate or heavy active lifestyle, you will lose A LOT of weight, ESPECIALLY in the first month - this is augmented even more if you already have a good diet.

Let's say you have a 2000 calories a day diet, you weigh 300 lbs, and you literally do nothing every day. Your diet is what most would consider a healthy diet - avoiding sugary foods and drinks, you eat large, high energy meals in the morning, you snack between meals, you have a moderate lunch and a light dinner. You have a good sleeping schedule etc. Ya'know, you're a healthy individual with a sedentary lifestyle.

If you go to a active, or very active lifestyle, you'd need 4500 - 6000 calories a day to maintain 300lbs. If you continue at 2000 calories, you will see a VERY rapid loss of weight. 2000 calories is already barely enough to maintain 300 lbs - you could see losses as high as 10-20 lbs a week. This will be, quite literally, hell on you though. You will likely feel hungry a lot, you may end up hurting yourself, etc. You shouldn't do things like this without someone there to help you, and always speak to your doctor before radical changes in your lifestyle. You may be a ticking time bomb depending on your weight.

Thanks for the tips. I've been getting active a bit more by lifting weights. Been trying to lose fat, but been having trouble. The diet part is what's getting me.

I was just asking a guy about losing 30 pounds in roughly a month, but you're saying I shouldn't be worried?
#220 - ainise (08/04/2014) [-]
Whenever you have any major change in your body, you should always consult your physician. People of the internet are not doctors, even if they claim they are.
