I'm wondering, what's the age gap? I'm the oldest in my family, I was about six when my brother was born and 8 when my sister came along. I'm pretty close/interact with them although, I'm more like a third parent than an older sibling... . Is the distance an age thing or you all just don't get along?

I was 7 when my first sister was born. then i have another sister, and then my brother is the youngest sibling. i'm just not close to my siblings, or parents. i guess there's a reason for that, but i'd rather not say.

Meh, I almost use Steam more for social, chatting and stuff than I do for games. That said, Civilization V is the bee's knees, as is A Game of Dwarves.
Nah, don't use either of those.

Thank you for opening my eyes on a subject I know squat about. I realize that I have a lot to learn when it comes to alternative lifestyles (or... whatever the respectful term is, I don't really have much experience in this kind of terminology).
Hopefully, I will be a better man by better understanding my fellow human beings, their struggles and stories both. You seem like a pretty cool person, and I wish you and your boyfriend the best.

Oh, and in the infantile Funnyjunk tradition, comment virginity taken.
#25 to #1 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
ah, didn't know about the limit.
but anyways, Painter is actually my last name. people find it hilarious that i just so happen to be an artist lol so it's sort of both, really
and i've always loved the name Azrael, don't even remember where i first saw it.
User avatar #26 to #25 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Ah, I wondered if it had anything to do with the root. Azrael is the name for the Angel of Death.
#27 to #26 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
i probably saw the name in this book of angels that we used to have around the house then (i knew it was an angel of some sort, but wasn't sure. that book taught me how to always spell Michael correctly, -el is the ending of a lot of names). it was pretty cool, had the book ever since i was a real little child. i'd tell you the name of the book but it was lost when our house burned down 5 or so years ago.
User avatar #28 to #27 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
That's a shame. As for the "-el", there's a reason for that. It comes from one of the Hebrew names of God, Elohim.
This just in, I am a massive nerd.
#29 to #28 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
I remember reading about that in the book.
don't worry about it, i am too. i used to belong to a MENSA program.. i just always feel like i scare people away by coming off as "hurr durr i'm smarter than you" but good to know you're nerdy as well lol
User avatar #30 to #29 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
I'm nerdy, but no real expert in anything. Just a bunch of passing interests that I flit back and forth from. Church history from going to two private schools, both of which were religious, and languages... well, frankly because Tolkien. Let's be honest.
#31 to #30 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
I completely understand. There are tons of things that interest me. History, medicine, forensics, art, culture (including languages and food and such), music... Just a lot of stuff.
Languages are pretty cool though, do you speak more than English?
User avatar #32 to #31 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Sadly, no. Not enough of an attention span. Was required to take Latin in middle school, and had to take Spanish at other times, but neither really stuck. Heh, I even used to be able to sing the Gilligan's Island song in Latin. Sadly, I've forgot large chunks of it.
#33 to #32 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
well, language is one of those things that you will lose the ability if you don't use it often. and the way language is taught in schools doesn't really help. you have to totally immerse yourself. I speak German, but would love to learn more languages. my great-uncle is Polish, and he speaks Polish, English, German, Russian, Spanish, and i think that's all. When I speak with him we bounce back and forth between English and German. I'd like to know as many languages as him lol
my accent is weird too, being born in Alabama, and raised half here, and half in Maryland, along with speaking German.. I've been told sometimes I sound Southern, sometimes Northern, and sometimes foreign haha
User avatar #34 to #33 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
That... that's an impressive lineup. Damn. I actually do create languages (or rather, a few words and a writing system) usually inspired by the sounds of other languages. Working on one now that borrows sounds and style from Hawaiian (with the addition of "g" and "nt").
#35 to #34 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
i know right?
that's really ******* cool lol i've always thought about trying to do that, but never actually put any work into it.
#36 to #35 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
If you like I could keep you updated on my pointless waste of time.
It's for a project very near and dear to my heart. Me and a bunch of guys I met on 4chan got together and basically created an alien world. Started with evolutionary history, building ecosystems and biospheres, and eventually we chose about a dozen to be raised up to intelligence. From there we made cultures and civilizations. I've made two civs, the first one resembles Hawaiian (and other Polynesian) culture, the second draws inspiration from Russia and Eastern Europe.
It's a labor of love that we've been working on for almost 2 years now.
Attached pic is an approximation of what my Hawaiian aliens look like.

yeah whenever you get around to it, just leave me a comment or PM
and yeah digital art is pretty different from traditional. i have a tablet, but am nowhere near as good with it as i am with a pencil or paint brush lol

dude, i'd love that! that's awesome.
did you make the picture as well or...?

also, that sounds like it'd be cool to base a videogame off of, like an RPG or something
User avatar #39 to #37 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Oh, and as for basing an RPG? Yeah, we've toyed with that idea. Here, I'll send you the link to our little project in a PM (don't want folks stealing it, mwahahaha!).
#41 to #39 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
that's understandable lol
User avatar #38 to #37 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
The picture is not mine, I am currently involved in learning my way around Photoshop so I can illustrate these worlds we have created.
Earlier this morning I was actually working on devising philosophical traditions for the Hawaiians (shorthand, the species is called Gantu). Got three philosophers invented.
#40 to #38 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
what do y'all intend on doing with this project? it sounds like it has potential to go somewhere
User avatar #42 to #40 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Honestly? I have no ******* idea. For me, I'm just enjoying the act of creation. Though there is a related sub-project. What's better, when I get it started, you can help participate!
You remember those old Choose-Your-Own-Adventure stories?
#43 to #42 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
that's a good attitude to have. but yes i do
User avatar #44 to #43 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Basically, 4chan has a similar thing called a quest thread. Goes like this: I draw a picture of Bob the knight. I ask, what should Sir Bob do, 4chan? They say "go slay a dragon". Cue me drawing a picture of Sir Bob slaying a dragon. Back and forth and back and forth.
Going to do that, where the main character is a Gantu prince. Start small, get people introduced to the world and the background, but as the prince grows up, the players will get a chance to make sweeping decisions that affect the whole country! You will be able to add to this crazy story we're writing!
#45 to #44 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
yeah, that sounds pretty fun! it's all a very interesting concept, i think
User avatar #46 to #45 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Awesome! When I get it started, I'd love for 'ya to play! But first, I've got to get better at drawing with Photoshop (though so far I've been able to translate lots of my pencil sketch know-how) and in IRL news, get the house sold and move. So it might be several weeks before I get around to this. But, if you like, I'll happily hit you up when I get done.
#2 to #1 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/22/2014) [-]
You're welcome. I'm actually glad I could help in that respect. (insofar as 'alternative lifestyles', i'm not sure what the term would actually be but i've never liked calling it a lifestyle, as it's not something you choose, like a vegan lifestyle or what have you)
but really, thank you as well for being the open-minded person you are. we could use more people like you, because if people actually listened to individuals that are different than them, maybe there wouldn't be so much hate and ignorance?
so thanks. (also i stay at my boyfriend's on the weekend and we don't have wifi there, sorry for the late reply)

i'm glad you took it teehee
User avatar #3 to #2 - atrocitustheking (06/22/2014) [-]
Don't worry about the late reply. I don't worry about it, I just assumed you were busy.
As for the open-mindedness, you would not have wanted to meet me about... five years ago. I was a Fox News watching, homophobic, conspiracy theorist asshole. I... got better when I met real people, oh, and actually learned more about the world. Big influence was a philosopher named John Stuart Mill. His whole philosophy can be crudely summed up in a Bob Ross quote: "If it feels good and don't hurt nobody it's all right."
#4 to #3 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/22/2014) [-]
hey, at least you're being honest. you learn new things everyday. as for myself, i accept that my views on the world can alter as i'm presented with new information.
and i feel just about the same way as Bob Ross lol
User avatar #5 to #4 - atrocitustheking (06/22/2014) [-]
Yep. I'd love to keep talking, but I have to eat. You still be here in an hour or so?

#10 to #9 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
it's been storming a lot here lately, which is fine with me because it has been so outrageously hot. plus i enjoy rain.
luckily none of our dogs are scared of storms
User avatar #11 to #10 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Yeah, well where I live you also have to worry about the possibility of tornadoes.
#12 to #11 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
same here. we have awful tornadoes. I believe Alabama made national news with the tornadoes we had in... April 2011? 2012? i don't remember exactly.
one of my grandmothers lost her home; a tree landed straight in the middle of her living room.
a small town in the county i live in was completely destroyed and they're still in the process of rebuilding it.
User avatar #13 to #12 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Good lord, was she okay?!
#14 to #13 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
yeah thankfully, my aunt lived with her at the time as well. they were both unharmed. we have tornadoes every year, it's just a common thing. it's just not all of them are that severe.
User avatar #15 to #14 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
I dunno, I think once you've got a tornado, it is, by definition severe.
#16 to #15 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
of course, all tornadoes are severe, they just do varying levels of damage.
like the most recent tornado we had this year didn't destroy entire towns, it just knocked over some trees, blew away some shingles and stop signs and what not..
severe enough for my boyfriend to leave his trailer and come over to my house which has a basement lol
User avatar #17 to #16 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
I never knew the South really had tornadoes. I just thought that was a Midwest thing.
#18 to #17 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
nope, it's definitely a thing in the south too. i remember being in middle school and a tornado came through; some kids were scared, and others were like "yay we're getting out of class!"
i haven't always lived in Alabama though, like when i lived in Maryland, instead of tornado drills we had bomb threat drills (we lived on a military installation 45 minutes away from Washington D.C.)
User avatar #19 to #18 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Yikes. I'm not certain which prospect is scarier.
#22 to #19 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
i don't see an option to reply to your last comment, but you've made me glad i decided to comment for once. i've used this site for years, ever since it was yellow, green, purple..
but i've never really bothered to comment or post anything. i love to draw and paint but am not really good at making comics or anything like that.
User avatar #24 to #22 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Oh, and yeah, there's a reply limit. Just respond to the first comment again and we'll make a new "thread" from their.
User avatar #23 to #22 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
So that's the source of the second half of your name, I suspect. What's the story behind the first part? Why Azrael? I ask because I find it very interesting, usernames. The ability to name ourselves is an interesting part of online culture, and the various titles we choose can say a lot about us. I mean, there may not be any deep story behind some (or a lot) of names, but the potential is there. Even if it's just a reference to something we like.
#20 to #19 - azraelpainter ONLINE (06/23/2014) [-]
the tornadoes here can be pretty frightening. i have experienced a bomb threat as well, but that wasn't even in Maryland, that was here in Alabama. It was my Junior year of highschool, near the end of the school year. that was pretty wild, but not so much scary as just anxious and not knowing what to expect. gladly nothing happened.
User avatar #21 to #20 - atrocitustheking (06/23/2014) [-]
Indeed. I'll try not to complain about how boring my life is. Ha ha.
