What makes you say that?

Actually, he preached equality as human beings, no matter who they were. He was a hippy without all the retardation.
Then again, the bible turns that shit right around with homocide, rape, incest, and more because hey, it was a different time, yo.
#92 - awesomenesss (12/01/2014) [-]
Maybe my memory is a bit off, haven't studied anything religious since I was in a private catholic school. If you weren't 100% pro religion you were the spawn of Satan. It was fucking weird.
#110 - tofastforyou (12/01/2014) [-]
It's humanly impossible to be 100% religion. The only person who pulled that off was Jesus, maybe Mary too. You should though always strive towards righteousness. As humans, sinning is inevitable, making bad decisions is inevitable. It's ok to not believe in organized religion, just as long you believe in a one true god and strive towards righteousness, you'll be saved.

"one true god"

max kek, the judeo-christian religions are chimeras, aberrant monstrosities that steal everything, even most of the names and significant events. Zoroastrianism heavily influenced them and has existed for much, much longer. Thing with religions is they all say "this is absolutely always correct" with nothing to back them up, so it kinda comes down to which one is the oldest that isn't just a derivative, and how much of what they say is obviously bullshit.

#137 - tofastforyou (12/01/2014) [-]
Truth is we all know so little about who and what exactly is god. We know so little when and how he first physically revealed himself to humanity. Religion evolves, we learn from our wrongs and improve. Today we are still far far far from defining god perfectly.

To clarify, as long as you know there's one god who asks you to love him and your neighbor, and fulfill those requests, you'll be saved.

I don't need "saving", there's nothing sinful about being human, and religion does the exact opposite of evolve. All religion is bullshit, but the existence of a god or gods is still up in the air.

By the way, the "christian" hell is the result of Catholic fear-mongering and mistranslations. Laveyan Satanism makes more sense and encourages its followers to be better people than Christianity in any form does
#144 - tofastforyou (12/01/2014) [-]
Yes human nature is sinful, usually not serial killer sinful, but still plenty of sinning. God understands that, that's why there's a difference between venial sins and mortal sins.

Yes religion does evolve. Example: the church evolved from the awful dark ages. Another example: the church evolved from teaching slavery is ok in the 1800's to condemning it. Future example I believe will happen: allowing women to be priests.

Let me ask you something, how does Christianity benefit from installing fear today? And hoe doesn't Christianity encourage one to be a better person?

#95 - leifbunny (12/01/2014) [-]
Yes well, religious icons and the people who worship them are always gonna be separate.
User avatar #94 - Ottovan (12/01/2014) [-]
That how Catholics are...

They HATE logic, questions, and curiosity.

Believe what I say, or you'll suffer for eternity
#120 - tofastforyou (12/01/2014) [-]
You can logically believe in a god though. You can even logically question that there is a god, but it's illogical to say you know for a fact there is no god.

"Believe what I say, or you'll suffer for eternity"

Yes you have to believe that righteousness is something you must strive for, if you don't, yeah, chances are you won't be saved. It's debated whether or not you must have a full faith that there is a god before going to heaven, and that's why some people believe in purgatory.

#96 - awesomenesss (12/01/2014) [-]
Yeah I figured that out the first day. Pretty sure that's why I'm agnostic today. You don't need religion to be a good person, just don't be a dick.
User avatar #97 - Ottovan (12/01/2014) [-]
Religion was never made to guide people to "Be a better person"

Religion only exists because of one word:

Fear.

No one knows what the hell happens when you die, and that scares people. They want to believe in another life, or eternal paradise, or just know that life doesn't end in death so badly, they'll believe any crazy shit...

Billions of years of change and evolution that morphed the world into what it is today? Bullshit.

A talking snake made some chick screw over all humanity by eating some forbidden fruit, forcing you to either devote your life to an invisible force in hopes you get into a white cloudy heaven or live with a sin you are born with from the moment your skin touches oxygen for the first time, and forever burn in hellfire no matter how good of a person you are? SEEMS LEGIT. LET'S GO WITH THAT ONE... CUS, HEAVEN, RIGHT?
#109 - tofastforyou (12/01/2014) [-]
"Religion was never made to guide people to be a better person"

There's literally hundreds of ways that is disproved.

Also, how does religion benefit from installing fear? I think I already know your answer but I just to see what you say specifically.

The Adam and Eve story is debated if it's literal or a story of faith. For the most part it's accepted as a story of faith, kinda like a parable.

Yeah I've been checking up on all kinds of information about Ball Pythons, since I didn't expect to find them easily in my country, turns out there's a breeder in my own city, go figure. I've had this in the back of my mind for years now, having some type of reptile keep me company, and since one of my favorite snakes is indeed the Ball Python and they're said to be good for beginners, apart from the occasional hunger strike, I think that once I get a steady job I'll try to get one. Until then I want to learn as much as I can from other snake owners and as much as I can about the Ball P. too.

I have to ask, how's it like to own and care for a Ball Python, or most snakes for that matter?
#183 - awesomenesss (11/29/2014) [-]
I've been an animal person since I was a wee lad, so I've loved every animal I've ever owned. Snakes are probably one of my favorites, aside from dogs and Bearded Dragons. I've owned 3 Ball Pythons, 1 of which I tried to save from poor care from a pet store but I wasn't able to help it, the second I left with my Aunt when I didn't have a home and her kids let it out of the cage and we never found it again . Thor I got from a pet store about a year ago and he's the cutest little shit ever, I call him a shit because he's peed on me multiple times, anyway, Ball Pythons are very good beginner snakes if you've never owned one before. Depending on the snake and the size they eat every 1-1&1/2 weeks. Like anon said, don't skip out on anything, it makes for a happy snake. I also have a Red Tail Boa named Artemis and she's freaking awesome, but I don't recommend Boas for beginners.

I've kept an array of animals and snakes are my favourite type of pet. They're fun to watch, nice to hold and have much easier maintenance than say mammals.
Don't skimp out on the husbandry though, make sure you provide the best you can for your animals.

Fuck, I regret picking the Cheater now. I hadn't thought to just use my infinite power as the Observer to make my self 3D, Plus you always now what the person you are interacting with is thinking. Its brilliant, you get the powers of the Cheater but can change the world as you please, and there are no 'save' you just undo what happens or go back in time and change it.
