I was speaking more of the floating magnet balls. I would imagine them more as a type of bat like the ghastly in the first picture. a white/silver fur with one large eye and a wing structure of 2 "arms" on each side and a clear membrane between them giving the magnet shape. I will have a look at that video when I get a chance though, thanks

Its almost as if he traces back the word of mouth descriptions of pokemon back to their origins. like that ghastly, you can imagine someone seeing that in the night and running back to tell his family "it was like a floating ball of gas with huge eyes!" and that was how he drew it. same with the blastoise "it was an upright turtle with cannons on its back that shot water!" little did they realise from thier quick glance the "cannons" were soft and flexible when not pressurised, not literal cannons. But in general, the groudon and tyranitar are pretty badass. The garchomp is fucking horrifying though

Then you look at this realistic take on pokemon, they do look more realistic and detailed, but they are taking the original pokemon too literally to be an actual organic creature. Not saying its bad, that steelix is fucking baller. but just a comparison of artist's styles and imagination
User avatar #100 - atma (3 hours ago) [-]
The Dex! Jirachi! Episode 43! That reminds me a butt-load of this The Dex episode if you ever find some time to view it, which goes into some detail about how myths might affect Pokemon, and vice versa... very applicable to our own world
And that pic does bring up the question of just how Steelix would look under the first artist's style... Probably a lot more wormy. Blech, gross.

Whoever did this is a fucking amazing artist. not even so much in a sense of how realistic they look, but how they didn't take the original pokemon as literal and only used them as a very rough idea, specifically the geodude. I would have never thought of them like that, but it really makes sense of the creature. Bra-fucking-vo
User avatar #97 - atma (4 hours ago) [-]
Inorite? Each one was broken down to its basest animal form, then totally redesigned. It took me forever to find out I was looking ones at Aggron.
I'm glad the artist didn't just stick to Genwun Pokes, also.

That's awesome, you've got talent (and I mean that, not just like a mom seeing her kid's crayons and going "you're going to be a great artist one day!!"). I especially like the closeness and the warm feeling of being in the same room with the subject from that top drawing.

**alekksandar rolled image** Hah. I was wondering when you'd find out. I had to reveal myself in the most spectacular way possible.

Well, isn't it night in the states right now?

And yeah, that's Darkel. I usually draw her with a gun and stuff, but I'm trying to get away from that stuff lately.

I'll take the compliments, thank you. And nah, I don't have a fursona. Waay too conservative for that.

As terribly unfortunate as it is, I was not able to catch any of SGDQ live. Fortunately, people have taken upon themselves to record and archive footage of the event, that being understood, were there any hype-as-shit runs that I should watch?
#303 to #302 - atma ONLINE (07/04/2014) [-]
this urn is full of cracks
To be honest, it was pretty tame overall. The most hype part was just to watch speedrunners playing in a marathon, because fuck if that doesn't always put a smile on my face.
www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/28spkz/sgdq_vods_thread/
I'd check out ZZT for Cosmo funtimes, Blindfolded Super Meat Boy, and anything that has PJ in it.
Also apparently the hypest runs have a < next to them, I didn't see any of them besides ZZT, so I have some catching up to do myself. I also really wanna watch the Classic Mega Man block.

What the Helix did you just *** say about me, you little ledge? I’ll have you know I graduated last in my class at Silph Co, and I’ve been involved in prolonged erratic walking within Rock Tunnel, and I have over 300 confirmed saves per minute. I am trained in sand attack warfare and I’m the top tree cutter in the entire Helix Fossil armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another TM. I will toss you away with a lack of precision.

Thanks, it works!
That's awesome news. I've been watching Twitch Plays Pokémon on a near-daily basis myself. It's a community to me in the same way that Funnyjunk is. We're close to completing the fourth game completely in Anarchy (aka no single command is ever "voted" on, it's everyone for themselves), which is absolutely amazing. So much fun to watch.
#276 to #275 - studbeefpile (05/14/2014) [-]
I believe you. I like the idea of TPP, but I get really frustrated when I watch it. For whatever reason constantly walking into the lower left corner really bugs me. I'm extremely impressed that it's gotten as far as it has though.

I've been mainly sticking to watching speed run streams though, I can't wait for SGDQ this year. If I catch it, it'll be the first GDQ that I've actually gotten to see live.
#277 to #276 - atma ONLINE (05/14/2014) [-]
It's 90% walkin' into walls, there's no escaping that fact. Those little moments, though... All of those things that you take for granted when you have complete control over the game. "WE MADE IT OUT OF THE HOUSE! YES!", etc. It's worth it for those victories.

Can't go wrong with speed runs, though. AGDQ '14 was the first one I caught live, it was a blast, so I heavily recommend keeping an eye on SGDQ to experience as much live as you can. Besides Wind Waker/SM64, what games do you keep up the most with?
#279 to #277 - studbeefpile (05/14/2014) [-]
Definitly OoT, and pretty much whatever else Cosmo runs, as well as Ennopp112 with Majora's Mask, I just recently started watching TriHex with his Yoshi stuff, and that's pretty much it at the moment. What about you?

So mainstream GOSH *hipster glasses* Zelda games are always fun to watch though, they're just straight-up action.
Puwexil is a big runner of Final Fantasy games, I don't think he did anything for AGDQ14 but his voice is hella calming to listen to. He teamed up with SpikeVegeta last year to do Final Fantasy 9 (a run so long it was split into two parts), who's like his opposite -- really loud and boisterously funny and he looks and sounds a lot like Seth Rogan. I think they make the coolest pair together.
SpikeVegeta reads the donations a lot of the time too, you've probably heard his voice without knowing it. Also ran Rayman a couple of times live.
My other favorite is PJ DiCesare, he does Battletoads and Ghouls 'n Ghosts and he always does a game or two in the Awful Games Done Quick block. He's the funniest motherfucker in the world. All cool people to check out (Puwexil probably not so much if you don't have the patience for RPGs)

There you go, though. That's the thing that separates people like you and me from other people. We're still trying. It takes some balls to keep pushing forward when life is dragging you through a rut. That's what true strength is - being able to stand back up after being knocked down a thousand times. Take heart in that, because that means you are strong.

Is there anything in particular that's pushing against you that you'd wanna discus? I'm here for you broseideon.
User avatar #270 to #269 - atma ONLINE (05/08/2014) [-]
Well that diatribe plus "broseidon" both made my day a little better mah Edgar Allen Bro. Thanks for helping me realize what matters.
Right now I'm dealing with some pretty serious, chronic prostate problems. Looking at natural treatments that might be able to help me out, since it turns out Saw Palmetto is nothing but a placebo. Trying to avoid surgery if I can... it doesn't feel like something I should have to be dealing with in my mid-20s :\
User avatar #271 to #270 - studbeefpile (05/08/2014) [-]
That's some heavy shit. There's a purpose to everything that happens though, regardless of whether or not things with this go the way you want them to, the experience you get from it will inevitably be the one that 'god' or the universe wants you to have. You're going through this because this experience is contributing to making you the person that you're supposed to be. Just keep fighting in the way that feels right to you, and don't worry about what's out of your control, because you can do nothing about it.

Oh snap! I did know that, it was just rooted somewhere deep in my brain from ages ago.
I found that show so strange, I thought it was a video game preview the first time I saw it.

and please dont make it some fucked up 3D fest like final fantasy became

having 3d fight scenes is good, having the camera pan all over the fucking place to take every angle is annoying as shit
User avatar #247 to #246 - atma ONLINE (04/27/2014) [-]
uh oh... 7 is my favorite FF, watch out ;o(
User avatar #248 to #247 - konradkurze (04/27/2014) [-]
cant remember what the last FF game i played was, but the fights were dragged out to shit and back, flying around getting different camera angles and having the combatants put so much drama into moves, it was like halfway to dragonball z retarded showboating

when half the fight time is about camera angles and the other side 'powering up' their attack, the game drags on
#249 to #248 - atma ONLINE (04/27/2014) [-]
oh, yeah, I'm totally with you there, that's one of my biggest qualms with more recent consoles, overlooked things like loading times can totally KILL the experience
6 was so nimble and there was never a pause in the action (besides from some nice, emotional story scenes), whereas 9 has random encounters that can last countless minutes, most of that time spent watching attacks or waiting as Zidane fails to steal shit twenty times in a row <>
10 brought nice pacing back to the series, and that was the last truly great FF imo.
Hopefully I've spent enough time
playing_ games (lol) that good "game feel" is something I'll be able to infuse into future creations

Not at all. I started with the pun "can sir" and then built the sentence around it while having with the the s's and c's. I was in a very punny mood at the time, having posted another pun on another page at roughly the same time.

I'm always in a punny mood.
