That's it? I didn't think defeating a level 100 pokemon with a lv86 pokemon would take you to lv87

You need to be hold a lucky egg though

killing a level 100 Audino with a level 1 foreign traded pokemon holding a lucky egg would yield the most possible exp.

however you can't find such an audino in the games, but if you could...

nevermind, looked it up. assuming one existed, Blissey has the highest exp yield, so a level 100 blissey killed by a level 1 foreign traded pokemon holding a lucky egg would be the most exp.
#149 - barbeqdbrwniez (06/26/2014) [-]
Did the math.

A level 1 foreign traded pokemon holding a Lucky Egg solo-killing a level 100 trainer-owned Blissey with no EXP share involved in Gen V with max EXP Pass power would get 457973.803 EXP. if the level 1 pokemon is in the Erratic EXP group (bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Category:Pok%C3%A9mon_in_the_Erratic_experience_group) then it will get to a whopping level 87!!!!!!!! (bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Experience#Gain_formula) 457001 is level 87 for erratics, less than the 457973 gained from this battle.

So yes, if perfect (albeit impossible) conditions are met, a level 1 pokemon CAN reach exactly level 87 by killing one other pokemon.

Actually, I was really interested in this, so I looked into it more and found this article:
blog.sfgate.com/techchron/2013/11/08/anterolateral-ligament-internet-information/

Essentially, this ligament was discovered back in the late 1800s. However, there were no official names for it, although it had been called several things since then. What the two surgeons that "rediscovered" it did was give it an official name and find out more details about it, which is certainly a great feat. However, this ligament is is no way newly discovered. It has been discovered for over well over a hundred years, albeit less known.

Makes since considering it took them this long to discover it.
