And that argument can be used for religion too. "The good thing about (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Pastafarianism, etc.) is that it's true whether or not you believe in it."
I'm not saying that I don't think science is credible, just that the "It's true whether you believe it or not" argument isn't really valid in any situation.

If you look at a rock, and say "The rock is solid", you can do tests on the rock to see if the statement is true. Throw it against the wall, try to phase your finger through it. You can't phase your finger through it and it collides with the wall. Conclusion? It is a solid, and that fact is backed up by testing. Saying "There is a God" is not the same thing at all. It cannot be tested, even in principle. That's the difference.

I know that saying "there is a god" is totally different, I'm just saying that I don't know whether or not there is a god, and no one will ever know except the people who have died and met him (if he is real that is.) I believe there is a God, but It would be ignorant for me to say that I am 100% sure that God exists. There is no proof for his existence, and no proof that he doesn't. But the extremists out there who are dead sure that their god is real can use the "it is true whether you believe it or not" argument. It doesn't make them right for saying that, but they still do.

most things in science are not "true" or "proven." They are accepted among popular belief due to the evidence supporting it.

Yep, one of my professors (astrophysicist) told us today that science is making guesses and seeing if they solve a problem and tweaking them if they don't.
