But that's a feeling.
Intellectually you still know better. And you know you're only being an ass if you take the easy way out.
If starving orphans with no family don't quit, what's your excuse.

This is what I told myself at my low.

You have a point there.
At my lowest point I believed only my mom loved me and she was the reason I didn't do it. I know now that it isn't true but I don't know what would have happened if I thought nobody loved me.
Good point, enragedshitter

Well, I just looked it up, and here's a wikipedia article about it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_light I didn't read any of it other then the first paragraph but it looks like it has the answer to what you asked, although it doesn't seem to be lightning.

Alas, I hadn't considered piezoelectricity. However, as you said, lightning is not one of the listed occurrences.

I believe it is something to do with friction, but I'm not sure. If you're asking how something from the ground can create lightning then I can answer that. Lightning is caused by friction between particles in the cloud that eventually gain enough charge to hit the ground at a place where the opposite charge is strongest (and where things that will easily conduct it are) and the same can happen from the ground up.

I understand how lightning works, but thank you. My biggest concern was how mechanical pressure can cause any kind of charge.
