This is wrong on so many levels.
First, Osama Bin Laden, the founder and leader of al-Qaeda [who took responsibility for the attack] at the time was a Saudi Arabian. How could his attack be a call for help from Iraq?
Second, al-Qaeda wanting Saddam Hussein removed is, in itself, laughable. Why would they want a Sunni leader removed in a region where a large Sunni influence is very much desired? Plus, Hussein had a certain distaste for the West - something al-Qaeda would have been rather fond of.
In terms of a catalyst, or provocation, for 9/11, it's not hard to take guesses.
We have al-Qaeda, a Jihadist organisation, with a dislike for the West. We have America, which is essentially a flagship of the West, most certainly a flagship of modern western philosophy. We also have heavy American interference in the middle-east, much to the chagrin of al-Qaeda. If you wish to commit terrorism against the west, America has been highlighted as the prime nation to attack. Now to pick a target which will receive international attention, and cause mass panic/terror. What is this? Two towers filled with both American civilians, and civilians of most other western countries? Said tower has economic influence? In the middle of a metropolis? It's almost a perfect target...
Frankly, the provocation was Western intervention in the middle-east, and the hatred attracted by this intervention. I'm not trying to justify what happened; I'm just pointing out that America wasn't completely innocent in the whole affair - foreign policy had highlighted America as a focal point for hate towards the West.
