- I like that theory the best, and it does explain a lot. …
I really do love this theory, I really do, but I have a very small loophole with it. The Avatar (or at least what I know of it) goes something like, Air, Water, Earth, Fire, and then repeat. If Amon was born as an avatar, should he of been born into the Water Tribe and Korra into the Earth Kingdom?
Opps I meant to say Avatar cycle.
i agree with your theory, and have built on it a little. what if Amon is the product of a new avatar cycle? it would cycle in reverse, making sense that he is from the fire nation. the previous avatars wouldn't know this because they are a separate avatar cycle, without knowledge of the cycle before them. Amon still can't physically bend elements, and can only spiritually bend, which is why he fights like an airbender at times, being that he should be able to air-bend but can't.
the whole plot of the series is revolving around a higher-power conflict dealing with the earth's balancing forces. only one avatar cycle can exist at a time, so it makes sense that the incarnations of each cycle should be enemies, fighting each other until one eventually is the victor and the other dies in an epic dual avatar-state showdown.
fuck. my first comment, and i forgot to log in.
It has been said this before and none has ever pointed out that when Aang was meditating on the fire nation island (forget the episode) Roku says to Aang that if an avatar is killed in the avatar state the avatar line will cease to exist no more avatars.
Yeah I mentioned that problem briefly. And that episode was the first one in Book 2, when the Earth general was forcing Aang into the avatar state, and he finally succeeded when he made Katara sink into the ground. Aang got angry and upset, and finally got into the Avatar state. After he did some damage, Roku came on his dragon as a spirit, and he pulled Aang out and talked to him awhile. That's when he told Aang about the avatar state some more, how it was a defense mechanism where the avatar is at his strongest, but most vulnerable.

Why not both?
Would you suggest watching the first one before starting that one? For better understanding.. or...?
Legend of Korra is actually pretty cleanly cut away from Avatar: the Last Airbender. There's a few in-jokes, but other than that you can just jump right into the new series.
Though you should still watch the old series; it's amazing.
I'll do that, then. Thanks.
