I spent four years living in Ireland. They have 'free college' in Ireland, at least for EU citizens. EU citizens are subsidized by tax payers. Non-EU citizens have to pay the 'full price' of education. If you compare the actual cost, per student, it's not cheaper than the US.

The idea that things 'cost less' if they are paid for with taxes is iffy at best. You can cite examples where it kinda-sorta worked out that; but you can find just as many counter-examples of situations where the private sector does significantly more, with less.

Oh man. Went to study abroad. My friend and I were walking back after class with a guy we had just met in the class. Somehow started talking about how homeschooled people are always weird and awkward and how that would be a horrible decision for a kid. The guy then drops it on us that he was homeschooled

I'd rather have my kid be socially autistic then deal with the stupidity that society has to offer. Besides I seen home schooled kids that turn out great.
