Ubuntu is pretty fukken legit, I use it pretty much exclusively. I've got a few issues with it, but they're mostly issues I have with Linux as a whole.

Yeah, but oxygen wouldn't have a third electron to pair with the third hydrogen. Oxygen only has two anions to pair.

Actually, oxygen has six electrons, which become sp3 hybridised (check the lessons on bonding on chemguide if you're interested, they're great). Four of them end up fully occupying two orbitals, and thus don't usually react, but the other two only occupy half of the other two orbitals, and thus would need two more electrons to occupy them (thus, oxygen has a valence of two).

Dative bonding can occur because oxygen has at least one of those fully occupied orbitals. Another example would be with ammonia (NH3), but it has only one fully occupied orbital.
