Huh. Shame, it'd be pretty cool if it was possible. Thanks for answering my questions though!

Just to add a little something to what he said, the temperatures on mars are also so wildy different than earth, that we don't really have plants that would survive in that climate without having some kind of greenhouse built for them, which kind of negates the purpose, because if we can do that, we can just colonize and take care of them ourselves. During the day, its scorching hot, and at night, its far below freezing.

What if we somehow reactivated Mars core? Explosion of some sort? I have no idea if this would actually work... But I'd love to have humans colonize parts of our solar system at least

I'm no expert by any means, but I think that any kind of explosion or effect big enough to reactivate a core, would probably just shatter the crust as well. Maybe melting it is possible, but I don't think we actually have the technology to go and do that yet. I'd say artificially rotating it is probably the course of action we'd take at some point in the future.

So it could happen, but it's in no way cost effective, and everything would have to be supplied and maintained because the planet wouldn't be able to support the trees without people there to maintain it?

Well that plus the fact that planet lacks a magnetic field like the Earth has. Mars is "dead", meaning its core has long solidified and all tectonic movement has ceased. Without a magnetic field, any atmosphere we could create with this tree idea would be stripped away in seconds by the solar winds generated by Sol.
