plenty of news outlets it can be hard to find the better ones but its more imortant to be able to tell what parts are scewed and what info is real.

Memes typically have no sources and are made specifically by randoms with an very one sided agenda. There is good substance to some but they should not be blindly believed without checking their claims.. most are as much BS as the news if not more

The news? Maybe, it depends on where you live. But you can find a lot of better sources for news then memes.

Guess that is true enough. Journalism shouldn't lie and we should be able to trust them.
But then again, we haven't really given them any reason to tell the truth.
Negative news sells more. People buy more, if the news are bad and the worse they are, the better. We also give them free reign.

Imo it should be entirely illegal for newspapers to post lies. A newspaper discovered posting a lie? they get a fine. Repeated offenses? they get shut down.
But that is just my opinion.

Sadly I think them lying out of their ass is protected by the bill of rights.

Then parts of the bill of rights needs to be rewritten.

No, getting called a sexist, racist, terrorist, who is worse than ISIS by people within the media multiple times for not wanting gaming journalists, of all people, to be corrupt assholes did.

so gamergate? real news outlets didn even cover that shit dude.. thats entertainment news and I'd put it on the same BS level as memes

And all of those kind of rediculous claims are also not made in memes? "news" memes are just individuals with agendas making claims typically with no sources or even facts claimed just emotion. they're fun and I like them, but they should NOT be considered jurnalism news which there are still strongholds for in the real world

>real news outlets didn even cover that shit dude.. thats entertainment news and I'd put it on the same BS level as memes

Huffington post, ABC, MSNBC, and a couple of other outlets covered it and claimed it was a harassment campaign. I'd have to look up the rest. I was sitting in King of pol's stream whenever Brianna Wu went onto MSNBC to fucking lie her ass off.

Well I'm a fuck, my bad. I didn't follow gamergate, but do watch news always with a grain of salt, and usually just playing in the background and I never saw it covered.

Honestly, like anything else news outlets fucks up. So does the Scientific community, but do we just ditch the scientific process and burn journalism? leaving us with political memes and guessing about the world around us? or we encourage fixing the system.

I'll chuckle when I see a meme that aligns with my views but If the information is new to me I don't give it credit till I've seen a real source on the subject. Memes are not sources of information and should not be treated as such

I would just suggest taking anything mainstream media outlets say with a grain of salt, they are always too busy pushing their factional narratives and are willing to give you the actual news but with the cost of it being injected with their personal morality.
User avatar
#71 - vinskinator (08/13/2016) [-]
I agree whole-heartedly, I was just trying to explain why they're better than news memes.

everyone injects their personal moralities and opinions into what they say or put forward. However, the system of publically displaying it with you're credibility on the line to an audience that will likely fact-check and allow opposition arguments to be made in air versus an anonimus website where the viewers are not as likely to read into what is posted are two very different types of "sources"

I always prefered print media actually and now tend to read online articles, but the lazy youtube videos with onesided arguements and news memes are just causing more missinformation since so many regard them as trustworthy sources. not only are they not, but NO sources should be trusted blindly.. sorry to rant at you but these kids saying memes are better than news outlets makes me freak about the next generation
User avatar

And the sad thing is? The only way you'll be able to "fix the system" is if these people somehow get fired or if their shit goes under, which obviously won't happen since a lot of people take them at face value instead of looking into it.

That's the thing, the scientific community isn't corrupt, as far as I know. Journalism is mostly filled with massive assholes, who just want to spread agendas instead of telling the truth, which I guess you're right, memes do that too, But for fuck's sake, I shouldn't have to worry about being lied to by people who are supposed to keep me updated on what's going on with the world. I shouldn't have to worry about whether or not X journalist is in a conflict of interest with the subject they're writing about, which Surprisingly I've seen happen a lot in the last two years.

Science in a capitalistic society still needs to do its work in exchange for funding and since there is less public funding there is more corruption in it each year. it's original and still main purpose is the truths of this universe and the individual scientists try to fight back against that.

journalism has been a part of the moralless capitalist system for longer and thus has significantly more corruption. but the typical journalist doesn't want to peddle lies to their readers/viewers either. their original and main purpose is to report the true state of the society we live in. it's just had capitalism seep into it for a longer time.

I feel your pain and agree that most sources are shit. It sucks, I just can't put more faith in an anonymous individual making an image than I do for actual articles that cite sources. Those can be fact checked so much more easily. I'm pretty moderate so I watch CNN I mostly read my news but wanted to use a channel for the example but obviously a good amount is still spun slightly left or presented in a way I disagree with. Itts more important to be able to disern what is wrong with it than it is to take a stand and turn my back on things that are not without faults.

I would like to clarify That I am pro-capitalism btw, just pointing out the faults when things go uncritisized. this is true for any other form of economy and government for that matter
