Yes, having money for tutoring helps a lot. It's not that all kids learn by themselves. Rich can afford tutoring, best paid schools (with best paid teachers, equipment, etc). Just having a computer with internet access is a tremendous boost, and no, not everyone has access to it, even right now. Rich kids are not the smartest, they're just trained well. Sure, some kid from poor family can outsmart all of that, but the chance for it gets smaller with every obstacle/lack of resources, and the gap widens with every generation.

Affirmitive action should be applied only for admissions. Later - if you fail at anything you should be thrown out.

I feel like that's not true personally, just an excuse. Kind of like saying you're fat because of genetics. But everyone's entitled to their opinion.

It's like being raised in a family that doesn't eat healthy, and doesn't teach you how to eat healthy.
Can you still bypass that and be a healthy person who eats good food? Not when you're a kid; since you have almost no control over your diet.
When you're older you can take control of your diet and be healthy, but for every person who manages to break through and change their life there's 20 people who don't know anything else and will continue to eat the same way they have their entire life.

In terms of school, who do you think will have an easier time getting good grades?
The rich kid who gets tutoring, his parents teaching him good study habits, putting him in the best schools, checking every report card and making sure to take action if there's any delinquent grade.
Or the kid who's poor, has to go to a part time job after work every day to support his family, his parents don't care how he does in school, he's never been taught to study properly, is in a bad public school, and can't get help if he needs it.
It's not always so black and white.

To be honest, I hope Danerys arrives in Dorne only to find it in the middle of a civil war because the Sand Snakes didn't think to take into account that not all of the Dornishmen would be willing to follow a bunch of kinslaying bastards.

Hit or miss on that one, I don't know much about Oberyn's brother... but in the time they're in they need strong rulers, not passive ones. Granted I know nothing about him, and I don't think they should've started a war over Oberyn's death (though I would've) but he seemed like a weak ruler despite his disabilities

That's because they butchered his character in the show, and for literally nothing. It couldn't have been to have them side with Daenerys, since in the books Doran is planning since the very beginning to support a Targaryen restoration. The show made him passive, while in the books he's waiting for the proper moment to strike back and support the Targaryen claim. Elia was his sister too; he's just not as headstrong and impulsive as Oberyn was.

Yeah, it would've been much more epic in my opinion if the Sand Snakes went on one of their tirades about Doran just sitting there only for him to wait patiently for them to finish and then calmly explain how he is going to get vengeance for Elia and Oberyn. With fire and blood. End of scene.

Yeah, I agree that Dorne in general is a pretty cool place. Hell, it has my favourite minor house: House Manwoody. Ignoring the penis joke (one of the members is named Dickon) their sigil is a crowned skull and they rule from a castle called Kingsgrave.

Well you can like him and by all means, hate Gregor Clegane. Hell, hate the Mountain for killing Oberyn but it's still Oberyn's fault.

And honestly, I'm not a big fan of Oberyn's lover and daughters. They're probably my least favourite characters, really.

Technically Oberyn wasn't married to her; they were just lovers. And as pissed off as I am at what happened to him, they don't get revenge. He wasn't murdered; he volunteered to fight to the death against the Mountain. If you're going to blame somebody for Oberyn's death, blame Oberyn himself.

If we're being really technical I blame George R.R. Martin, but I need an enemy in the show and I'm too much of an Oberyn fan boy to hate him even though he got cocky

If you don't go into it expecting it to be as great as TLA, then yeah.

It's quite different, so it threw off some of the fans who were just hoping for more of the same.

I watched the first season and my ONLY gripe about it was that they focused on the lovey dovey stuff too much.. It turned me off from watching any more

#46370 - machiavellianhumor (07/29/2016) [-]
its not as good i'll say that. plagued with a lot of issues. especially korra being a idiot and the love triangle stuff.

That being said Amon in season 1 is a legit awesome bad guy and you will most likely love him and the Equalists. and you may or may not see some of the other characters from the original series "popup" from time to time

I loved the last airbender, and between you and me I watched the first season. My only question is is it worth watching? The first season was 'meh' other than Amon, I feltl ike they pushed the lovey dovey stuff too much. Is it like that throughout or does it get better?

I watched the first season and I liked it. The animation during the fights were awesome. I didn't really care for some of the really corny humor, but I heard it gets darker as the series progresses
