User avatar #168 - Vandeekree (03/18/2015) [-]
Yup, that's why I would love to live in a truly communist place. No government, nothing but people giving to one another driven by nothing but altruism. That's exactly how my immediate family acts towards one another, is it too much to ask that it branch out to encompass the world?
User avatar #97 - timmywankenobi (03/18/2015) [-]
Well if the "real" feminists aren't going to differentiate themselves from the radicals and teach radical feminisim in the universities who will ? it's not my job to go through the movment and only pick out the good bits.
#144 - Rascal (03/18/2015) [-]
A lot of feminists DO try to differentiate themselves, but so many people then just starting yelling at them about 'no true scotsman', etc.. In order for them to be differentiated between, people actually need to let them differentiate themselves and stop referring to them as the one group.
User avatar #166 - timmywankenobi (03/18/2015) [-]
Most feminist organizations welcome radicals, all feminist studies departments world wide welcome radicals and allow radicals who graduate to teach their form of feminism. This is not a ideology trying to remove radical elements.
#71 - technoshaman (03/18/2015) [-]
Thanks for pointing out the instability of the radicals. We tend to ignore mental health issues in the west. A lot of people don't realize that many of the radicals in every group are, for one reason or another, mentally or emotionally unstable. And when I say a lot of people, I'm referring to those both outside and inside the particular group.

I agree.

I try to be tolerant of how other people choose to live, though the fact is there's some really unhealthy behaviors not only being tolerated, but openly encouraged. That can be quite harmful to any society. (Rome, anyone?)

If we use the logic in this post then we can say abusive spouses, addicts, rapists, thieves, murderers, etc. are exempt from legal or moral repercussion as they "Couldn't help themselves.". It's a ludicrous argument, imo.
User avatar #14 - citruslord (03/14/2015) [-]
See, except two people having consensual sex is completely different than any of the things you listed. No one is directly harmed when two teenagers do it, and it's not an unhealthy behavior, unless it is done without proper safety precautions. Things that would be taught in a proper sex ed course.
Abstinence education does nothing to address problems such as stds and early pregnancy, and leaves people ill equipped to handle sex. Not to mention things like sexual assault numbers could likely be curbed by teaching consent.
User avatar #15 - malleusdeus (03/14/2015) [-]
I have nothing against contraception education....which you seem to think I do.

I'm just saying that all of the examples I have listed have the same mentality of "I want it, therefore, it's ok."

While it is an over-simplification comparing those other examples to teenage sexuality, it is still worthy of note as the teenage years are crucial for a person learning how to interact with others and within society.

If you want a more relevant example then look at the YOLO fad. Teenagers making extremely stupid decisions that can potentially ruin (or end) their lives simply because they wanted to do it at the time.

Teenagers do not have fully developed risk assessment, that's a biological fact. So it falls on adults, and education systems to help encourage them to think about long-standing consequences before they take action.

Teach teenagers how to accept their sexuality and express it in healthy ways. Don't teach them to obey every desire they ever have.

That's my point.

Do you not have morals? Like seriously do you not have any? You claim that you only do as the bible instructs every time someone asks you about morals, but do you not know right from wrong without religion?

If so perhaps you should learn it. I'm an agnostic and I still know what's right from wrong without a higher entity instructing me on it. If the only thing keeping you from being a moral-less prick is religion then you are probably a psychopath.

Now I strongly disagree that more studies need to be done in order to come to a consensus. All of the leading bodies which have done research on the subject have found no reason to indicate that gays are naturally more likely through their expression of sexuality to have any types of adverse effects. The only people I have heard calling for more research are the same people claiming that climate change is not a thing or that natural selection doesnt happen. There is a consensus in the scientific community and it is people who are not a part of the community who claim that they cant make conclusions (because they dont like the ones made)
