Im not sure that he got totally inside the housing, I just read in testimony that he was trying to get control of the weapon that way
You do have a valid point that a lot of people here aren't noticing about the source of the article. I tend to mistrust any website, be it right or left, that so obviously aligns itself with a political ideology. In my experience they only recycle information that supports their worldview and discard the rest as lies. In this case, however, I think the article is fine until the last few paragraphs, where the writer's obvious bias shows (you can't see them in this post). Im happy with the article overall since he or she linked to the autopsy so that people could check for themselves. I just hope people follow up on these sources of information, people not fact-checking and making assumptions are a huge part of why the dialogue on this tragic incident is so fucked up.

The fact that the bullet went up his thumb supports Wilson's testimony that Brown was trying to grab the gun
Imagine a gun pointed at you. If you make a motion with your right hand so that the top of your palm is over the slide/barrel area of the gun, as Wilson says it was when Brown tried to grab it, then your thumb, as you can see or imagine, is pointed towards you. He was trying to get his finger into the trigger housing as well, so the gun was probably not totally in Wilson's control, so if it was jostled around it is completely feasible that one of the two rounds that were discharged hit his thumb at the reported angle.
I don't know exactly what kind of pistol Wilson was using, only that it was a .40cal, 13-round capacity Sig Sauer. I have a pistol of that exact variety (whether or not it's the same model, I don't know) and Ill tell you that it is not a very long weapon, which I think supports how Brown, who, being very large and with large hands, got his hand all the way around the gun and still had his thumb in front of the barrel.

I can see how that makes sense. Assuming Wilson's back was facing/on his vehicle, and his weapon was pointed at Brown, it's entirely logical to think that Brown's hand would have come downward on the pistol to push the barrel down or to the side, away from him. Or to snatch the gun, we can't presume his intentions as he didn't get very far. I can't say that I agree his finger could have been in the trigger loop though, not if his palm was on top of the barrel. Even with a closed fist around the gun, only the upside down tip of his finger, with no chance for lateral movement [read: control of the trigger], would have been able to reach the loop, regardless of the pistol's small frame. You do bring up a valid point though.
