Fuck, you treat it like a holy text. Only the more radical side, Bloody hilarious!
I know I have nothing to hide. I know my life.
I don't give two shits as to what Mr. Breyer says. The police are just normal people, with a difficult job to do. Why is it that you see them as bad guys? I never understood this with you Statsians.

The police are allowed to lie to you. This means they do not act in Good Faith towards the public, and *that* makes cops "bad guys". Only a person with compromised integrity can be a cop, and I have no intention of giving such a person access to me or mine. I will not talk to police about anything if it can be helped since police are only there to cause problems, and if I have to talk to police I record it, because police conveniently "misremember" conversations when it suits them. Police are nothing more than state-sponsored gangsters and I will have nothing to do with them.
That you choose otherwise, assuming you aren't just making shit up, then that's your own stupidity to live with.

>The police are just normal people, with a difficult job to do.
I think this points out why the police system is flawed, at least in the US. Normal people, at least stereotypically, can't handle very well the stresses of "normal" jobs and end up lashing out at those who don't deserve it. Now give this normal person some power and a gun, and increase the stress level in their job, and you've got a recipe for disaster.
Now, speaking beyond hypotheticals, I don't have any solid information on police violence and whatnot. I just know what the media is hyping, and I never trust any media hype without doing my own research. What I do have is my own experience, which is mixed-leaning-bad. At the end of the day, if an officer asks me to do something that I am not legally required to do, my level of compliance is more or less proportional to how much of a dick he's being: the meaner he/she is, the less compliant I'll be. Professional gruffness and irritability from a hard day can be forgiven. But I've personally met too many officers who seem to have some god complex. A uniform doesn't automatically earn my respect (for what that's worth). They just have to be nice, and I'll do just about anything they ask (within reason).
I live in a state where a major city's police force is being investigated by the feds due to overuse of deadly force, among other things. I think you'll forgive this Statesian for not feeling blissfully safe when he sees a trooper drives by. Maybe our police forces can take a leaf out of Canada's book, but until then some of us, myself included, will wonder if that cop actually is a bad guy.

Police are normal people? Fine. Then give them normal powers. Force them to be truthful to the public, remove their firearms, remove their powers of arrest, only then do they get a pass.
For as long as you hold power over others you are not allowed to make a mistake, ever, because while a cop has a union paying his legal bills the regular Joe has to sell his house and cancel visitation with his children to fight a case that should never have been brought against him in the first place.
