Do you drive a racecar around town? Most racing cars run on alcohol anyway. And while they still share principles, the engines are built completely differently. And it does burn hotter, man.

I learned it in Auto Tech. We're not discussing race cars, we're discussing standard cars. It is a definite fact that higher octane burns at higher temperatures. I'm not saying you're wrong, but you're convoluting this by throwing 10 other things at it.

I used race cars as an example as to why they don't burn at higher temperatures. Also we are talking about octane not race vs standard cars. Why would that even matter? Each have the same principles engine wise.

Octane rating is NOT equal to the energy the fuel holds. It is simply volatility variant. It doesn't burn hotter plain and simple.

I always put a tank of premium in once a season. Cleans out the system or something.

It doesn't, if you are that serious about cleaning out carbon build up, take your car up to redline a little bit. I am not saying go bounce it off the limiter for a half hour, but just floor it a few times. Now if you are referring to your fuel injectors, then premium still isn't going to help you at all. Octane is just the volatility of the fuel. You could actually save the money buying your regular octane instead and spend it on a small bottle of Lucas oil fuel injector cleaner. It's good stuff, just dump it in the tank and drive. Breaks up the deposits on the injectors without you having to take them off the fuel rail and manually clean them.

Higher octanes burn at a higher temperature. Anon is actually right for the most part.

Higher octanes do not burn at higher temperatures, I have no idea where you heard that from. If that were the case why would high performance drag cars use higher octanes? Wouldn't they want to use lower octanes to cool their chambers down and get a denser therefor more powerful burn? Like I said octane is ONLY a measure of volatility of the fuel itself. It doesn't change the duration, or temperature of combustion. The reason why high performance cars use higher octanes, is to stop pre-detonation. If you have a ridiculous compression ratio, with an already hot air charge from a forced induction setup, the fuel mixture be closer to it's combustion point prior to the spark, causing a knock.

tl;dr They don't.
