Seems like you are better on evolutionary chance extremely so. I don't think most gamblers would take the chance you're risking here. Although I always appreciate an alternate view, I'll ultimately have to say that I think it's a stupid notion.

Certainly functioning autistic individuals can and are of use due to their unique nature. And there are many cases where in certain problems can be overcome, but your blanket statement also reaches into the most extreme situations. So lets investigate that.

Concerning kids like pic related, kids who aren't really kids who are so far set apart that comparing them to normal children would be wrong. They will never live even the remotest semblance of a normal life. This kid in particular is a tetraplegic from birth. Isn't capable of eating enough food to keep themselves alive. And have questionable, if any, real brain activity. One would seriously find it hard to believe them as equivalent even to animals seeing as they don't fit the 'conscious' characteristic. And they certainly don't fit the rulings of autonomous, reasoning, or emotional behavior like that of humans.

So the question becomes, do you stand by your blanket statement? Or do you retract it to disregard extreme situations, and when you do that, where do you draw the line?

I stand by my statement. The reason for me to believe in my blanket statement is that I do not believe we can draw a line between who can be aborted/euthanized without lowering our standards as a species. Evolution is too random for us to know definitively which genes we can or can't afford to live without. Once we draw a line between severity of condition, there will always be arguments towards or away from where we deem suitable to end a life. The feasible way to do this, in my opinion, is to avoid drawing that line.

If they can mate, let them mate. If they cannot mate, they are unfit and cannot pass on their genes. If someone wants to choose to spend the time and effort to keep them alive, let them as long as it is of their own free will to do so.

I believe my example is extreme, but I find the idea of pruning the human race to be just as extreme; it almost sounds like a nightmarish, Utopian novel.
