Funny, most of us like the OT duels a lot more, ESPECIALLY because they weren't flashy or overdone - they were straight to the point, you could almost feel the weight behind each blow, every movement had a logic (attack/parry) and most of all - they did a 10x better job in conveying the emotion of the characters.

The only Prequel film that comes close to that, ironically, is The Phantom Menace. Even now I'm mesmerized by every move of Maul's staff, so flowing, so logical, etc.

But nah, none of the Prequel duels will ever top the duel on the Death Star II. The moment when Luke goes batshit and literally bludgeons Vader into submissions, along with the very low-tone male choir score... now THAT is chill & shivers-inducing
#108 - repostsrepost (08/07/2014) [-]
the thing is, lightsabers, except for the hilt, are weightless. So it makes sense to be quicker and lighter like they are in the prequels than the power blows that you see when Luke and Vader fight.
User avatar #109 - tkfourtwoone (08/07/2014) [-]
Dude, I'm perfectly aware of that.

Still doesn't shake off the feeling that the duels in the prequels are flashy for the sake of being flashy; like the purpose of the fight is to clash the sabers against each other, not to hit a part of your opponent's body...

And, as I said before, the "weight of the blow" doesn't necessarily imply the weight of the weapon, but rather the strength & intensity of the wielder
User avatar #99 - wilfredfanforever (08/07/2014) [-]
SuperHyperCrazy is right though. In my opinion the best thing about the prequels was the fight at the end of Episode III. Not only was the action kick-ass but the emotion was astounding. You could see it on their faces. Two men, who had known each other for years, going on several adventures, having countless unforgettable moments together, becoming brothers, in a sense, have now become enemies. During the fight you see anger on Darth Vader's face and you see sorrow and sadness on Obi-Wan's.

But what do I know, I watch a man in a dog suit on television all day.
User avatar #100 - tkfourtwoone (08/07/2014) [-]
Ironically, Hayden expresses most when he doesn't say anything...

Still doesn't beat the frenzied look on Luke's face, enraged that he may lose his friends, filled with hate against the vile creature that is his own father... then followed by the horrifying shock of realization of what he was about to do and become.

Not to mention that in the OT you couldn't see Vader's face (obviously), but through body language they managed to convey a lot. For instance, you can almost see the frightened look on his face when Luke starts to bash him with full fury, as he backs off
User avatar #101 - wilfredfanforever (08/07/2014) [-]
Hm, I don't. Both were pretty heavy scenes. For me the most dramatic moment in the in the original trilogy was when Luke learns Vader is his father (I know I know) but that scene was just awesome for a lot of reasons.

User avatar #102 - tkfourtwoone (08/07/2014) [-]
Tbh, I still partly consider that scene an ass-pull. A legendary, over-9000 level of ass-pull, but still an ass-pull.

The original plans/script did not involve the idea that Vader was actually Luke's father

"Security surrounding this movie was so intense that George Lucas had regular reports about "leaks" from actors. George Lucas was so determined that the ending be kept secret that he had David Prowse (Darth Vader) say "Obi-Wan killed your father", and dubbed it later to be "I am your father". In fact, only five people eventually knew about the ending before the film's release: George Lucas (came up with the idea in his second draft, after the death of Leigh Brackett), director Irvin Kershner (informed of such during story conferences), writer Lawrence Kasdan (also informed during story and script conferences), Mark Hamill (informed shortly before the shooting of the infamous scene), and James Earl Jones (told during the recording sessions for the final dub, and whom himself believed that Vader was lying)"

"In Leigh Brackett's original draft of the script, Darth Vader was not Luke's father. The character of Anakin Skywalker actually appeared in the film as a Force spirit to train Luke. Anakin's characterization was later split into the characters of Yoda, and the Force spirit technique was used to allow Obi-Wan Kenobi to appear in the film"

well, I liked it. Good read though
User avatar #106 - tkfourtwoone (08/07/2014) [-]
Furthermore

"Leigh Brackett's first draft of the screenplay contained the revelation of Luke's sister, her existence disclosed by the ghost of Anakin Skywalker. Referred to as "Nellith Skywalker", Anakin explains that it was he, not Obi-Wan, who separated the twins at birth to protect them from Darth Vader, and that Nellith also underwent Jedi training in another part of the galaxy so she could join forces with Luke to defeat the Sith. This concept was dropped in the second draft of the screenplay, along with the appearance of Anakin Skywalker and replaced with a scene of Obi-Wan and Yoda discussing how they must find another Jedi apprentice in anticipation of Luke's failure. This too changed in later drafts, resulting in the more ambiguous scene in the final version where Yoda assures Obi-Wan that "another" exists"

The duels in the prequels were more realistic.

If you were actually dueling someone, most likely you wouldn't sit there facing off for 10 minutes. You would constantly be attacking and parrying.
User avatar #76 - tkfourtwoone (08/07/2014) [-]
Really now?...

Well, then I suggest you watch some Kendo duels. The OT duels were thought out to resemble Samurai duels, with a shit-ton of emotions behind them.
User avatar #77 - tkfourtwoone (08/07/2014) [-]
Fuck, even in Ep. IV you could clearly see Vader's foot work as being very Kendo-ish (thought back then David Prowse did the fighting, the late Bob Anderson did them for Ep. V & VI)
User avatar #97 - arrogant (08/07/2014) [-]
The episode 4 duel was deliberately slow to look like a pair of old men fighting. It was a deliberate effect
User avatar #98 - tkfourtwoone (08/07/2014) [-]
That I know. But it's still clearly visible it's meant to be a reference to samurai duels

Yeah... it tastes of... well tea. It sort of has it's own flavour. The key part is having a good tea bag. If your brand is shit, the tea will be too. The more milk you add the creamier it tastes (but it depends on the type of milk) and the more sugar you add the sweeter it gets. Just so you know, tea helps the stomach relax and helps the bowels out a little so if you ever need light bowel relief then a strong, sweet tea can really help.

Btw when we add milk, we only add little amounts even if you like lots. The most milk in a cup of tea you see is around 1/5 of the cup. That's the MOST you see. I have about 1/20 of a cup, or a splash if you wan't to call it that. Adding lots of milk just fucks up the tea.
User avatar #190 - SuperHyperCrazy (08/06/2014) [-]
alright, thanks a lot. I'll try it sometime! The times I've had hot tea it was basically just very hot water with a little flavor-- it was a pointless drink to me. Does yours taste more like something?

It's just to make it creamier. It's personal preference. Not everyone like milk, it's like coffee, some have it and some don't Personally I like a little milk in but a decent amount of sugar.
