I don't know what the fuck it's called, and I kind of have to when half the shit on here is anime. Can't help it if I don't know the word.

I'm just saying I saw the comic style, and thought it was supposed to be red like however the fuck you want to call it. My bad for not being a animeRichard Simmons and knowing the name of it. D:

well the thing about Carrion is that there is never a finite limit to how much food there will be on a corpse. yes it's true the tyrannosaur likely hunted in times of necessity. but it's bone structure and recreation of muscle fibres places it at a top speed of approximately 15km/h and only being to sustain that speed for a few seconds. it also would've run in one of two manners, both of which were very awkward and somewhat comical to imagine. one with a low but very forward center of gravity, resulting in a low ability to turn, and another with its head and tail straight up, resulting in a high center of gravity. the latter worked out better in terms of faster motion, but was ineffective for hunting. the former was an effective method of hunting, but would have failed in comparison to its smaller and likely more agile prey.

unless it was hunting other gigantotherms such as triceratops or stegosaurus, it likely would've been a poor hunter.

what was most likely is a pack of maniraptors (velociraptors belonged to this group) would take down a larger dinosaur with their guerilla hunting strategy, eaten their fill, and then T-rex would've moved in for the scavenging, as no velociraptors, no matter how many, would've wanted to fuck with with a "family grouping," as you said of tyrannosaurs.

theres evidence in dinosaur teeth fossils, in the way they were shaped. it was because their teeth are all the same size and shape, like most modern scavengers, while carnivores have a whole array of shapes and sizes of teeth. theres also evidence in the shape of its serrations. they match komodo dragon, who is also surprisingly enough a scavenger.

further still, T-rex, being over a ton, would have regulated its body temperature through sheer mass, meaning it could have survived on as few as 5 good feeding a year. not to mention its posture, running speed etc.

you picked the wrong FJunkie to argue about this with. :P
User avatar #110 - Shdaowru (12/08/2011) [-]
A fellow Dinosaur loving FJunkie? Fuck yes.

Any and all carnivores scavenge for food when possible. But you have to take into consideration the recent discovery of the fact that Tyrannosaurs lived in pseudo-family units. A.K.A. Sarah Harding in Jurassic Park: The Lost World was actually correct. So take into consideration a Tyrannosaur would also need to feed 2-3 young, and there is no way the Tyrannosaur was primarily a scavenger.

It seems to be the popular idea by dinosaur people, that the Tyrannosaurs were scavengers.
