Name some, it might be due to the fact that i live in illinois, where the only radio stations play pop music or rap, but the musicians i loved have sold out.

I like stuff that spans over many genres like Two Door Cinema club, John Butler trio, Explosions in the sky, Don ross, erik mongrain, flogging molly, muse, newton faulkner, thomas newman, and buckethead to name a few. It might not all float your boat, cause some of it is really far from rock, but it is creative.

Bucket head is good, but he isn't a band, more like what Terry Bozzio does (sorry if you don't know who he is) muse sold out :/ and the rest i've heard of but never listened to.

SIlversun Pickups i enjoy a lot, but it seams like instead of keeping musical integrity, people are giving in to the confromist pop-styled playing so they can make more money.

yes, i know as a musician you should make music fans will like, but the fans they try to attract nowadays aren't the same type of die hard fans you metallica, Kiss, ACDC, the beatles, etc. have.

I'm not saying that, I'm 17, so i wasn't around for that music. I perfer the music i listen to now (not the mainstream garbage) so i'm with you.

but bands that are popular now were influenced by older bands, i just find it sad that the creative artists are dying out.

The reason the fifth is used so often is because it is in the harmonic series, not because people are trying to make music that isn't "complex". Time signatures are also used to fit the style of the music, it's not about making something easy or not, it's about the phrasing. Jazz is based on a blues scale it's like if you play something in a minor key it's minor, if you play something on the blues scale it's jazz.

I'm not saying its any more difficult, its morecomplex

In regards to the fifth , I was referring to chords in metal music using only the root and fifth, whereas jazz uses more chord tones, adding to the complexity.

well, like i said, i play a variety of music, currently in a hardcore and an industrial metal band, and Keith Moon, Dave Gorhol, Albert Bouchard, Trent Reznor, George Kollias, Derek Roddy, Terry Bozzio, and many others (i don't expect you to know most of those lol) influenced my drumming.

I'm not much of a fan of most of the "pioneers of metal/ rock" bands from the 60's/70's, but i can respect the influence they have, and the talent/ creativity that is hard to come by from todays music.

*sorry if TL;DR*

I can agree with that. I just really disagree with the fans who believe that music can never get better than it was back then
