And you honestly believe that liquor stores and gun shops in black neighborhoods aren't pandering to a market that desires their services, but are instead placed their by an all-powerful collusion that controls the actions of black people somehow? There is a point where you're noticing troubling trends in a culture and there is a point where you are just paranoid and playing the victim.

It is not the liquor stores or gun shops that control black people's actions. Black people are not being controlled by any sense of the word. And I'm not playing the victim, I am simply showing you the truth that I experienced growing up as a black male. You get tired of hearing that being black is harder than being white, think of how exhausting it is living it. I shouldn't even be having this conversation with you because you honestly believe that "black people suffer from base human urges, greed, etc. more than whites." there is a word for that. It's called "prejudice".

The statistics do seem to bear that out, yes. It's just as plausible, if not more so, than there existing an overarching system of oppression that has complete control over blacks' actions.

You really think so? You believe that there is true equality in America? You think that the fact that 60% of all liquor stores and gun shops in America are in black neighborhoods is just a coincidence? There is a point where you're being an idealist but then there is a point where you are just naive.

The same things that drive anybody else to commit crimes, base human urges, greed, etc. No matter how bad things get, ultimately a person has to decide to pull the trigger, throw a punch, or step onto that corner and offer somebody some meth. No system can make you do that, if that's what you're moving to imply.

To me, those statistics show that there are more criminals who happen to be black, rather than the probability of you being jailed. You are, after all, not going to be jailed simply for being black. By simply not breaking the law, you and I have the same chance of going to jail, one that is approaching zero.
User avatar #77 - Lycanz (09/22/2014) [-]
That is just what you choose to believe then, and I respect that. If you believe that there is no sort of institutionalized system that is making blacks go to jail so much more frequently than whites then that is your opinion.
In an idealistic society where there is no emphasis on race in the justice system then wouldn't the statistics of blacks and whites in jail be at least close to each other?

I would like to say the Justice system, as well as many other things, in America are completely fair to all races but that would just be ignorant of me.

You seem to be caught up on the idea of going to jail. That's not the point of this argument I used it as an example. I'll make it easier for you to understand.

As a black male, I have a 1 in 3 chance of going to jail. As a white male, you have a 1 in 23 chance of going to jail. (that's wikipedia numbers so don't take them to heart). I know nothing about your life and you know nothing about mine; but what we do know about each other is I have a much higher chance of going to jail than you.
