BUILD THE WALL
This is where my liberal side shows. If it cost 100 billion a year to help refugees, it still pales in comparison to the amount we spend on military. I dont get how everyone can essentially pick apart pennies and ignore the bloated budget of the military.
True. The US spends entirely too much on its military. Mostly we have WWII to thank for that, and the treaties signed after it was over. European was bombed flat, Japan was nuked, Russia was flexing awfully hard, and the US was pretty much the only other nation with half a military. European wanted and needed protection, so we provided it while they rebuilt their cities. Japan was castrated entirely, and in return the US would be obliged to provide an army just in case they ever decided to be bastards again.
That's pretty much just continued on since then. Well, WWII was a long time ago, and I'm about tired of providing the UNs budget and it's fighting force. The nation's of the world have grown significantly over the last 60 years, and I think they're ready to take care of themselves. We could have all the things they have. Health care, college, massive social projects, but instead were focusing on providing world wide defence at all times.
Maybe we should pull back some and let them make their own way in the world for once. If they get caught up in a war or two that'll be their problem. They'll have to deal with it themselves, while we take care of ourselves.
Yeah but using money on refugees is flushing it down the toilet, whereas the money being spent on the military isn't. The amount going into the military may be high like buying something for 10x the cost but hey at least you get something.
yeah, well i wish they'd do neither and put that money into improving fucking education. cause its a fucking tragedy what our system is doing
America needs it's strong military. As a country that only came into power through wars it's military budget is always gonna be high.
On what though? I'm not gonna pretend I know all off US's history but did you guys not become America through seceding from the British and going through the American Revolutionary War? Didn't you guys only become a superpower after participating in the World Wars?
I say bullshit cause even if we trimmed our military budget by 1/3 wed still have an incredibly high military budget. SO its not that your statement is bullshit, just that you likely don't know the size of our budget to begin with
How would you guys keep your planes air ready though? Isn't your air-force already gimped af with the
military budget? With all your fancy military shit the maintenance cost for every branch would be high as fuck. And if you denied new recruits due to cost cuts that'd be dumb since joining any branch of service in the US is pretty much advanced level welfare with the slight chance of dying.
at this point i presume you are in somewhat agreement and that your just being funny. Which i found the humor. But its a serious topic for me and I just get mad at this type of behavior by people. They get worried over a few billion but ignore the trillions in the military, they ignore the billions in corporate welfare that we give and the stupidity of focusing so much hate and attention to 100k refugees that have been overly vetted by multiple agencies inside and outside the country.
I'm just continuing this along cause anyone who forgoes to just flee to the nearest safe country and instead opts to pay for a boat or spot on a boat to a country 10k kms away isn't a refugee but a economic migrant. Also IIRC US is not under any obligation to actively bring in refugees they just can't refuse any that manage to get on US soil and seek asylum.
