My answer was real info, don't be mad just because it's true.
I own two non colt 1911s. bought both for around $300. Rock island officers and regent nickel plated. The officers isn't bad for cc. The regent I got cause it was $350 and someone made it look like what I'd assume a pimp carried back in the day.
I've shot: Kimber, s&w, Remington, kahr/auto ordance, and another rock island.
Out of those my favorite was the Remington r1e and the Kimber. The Kimber shot ok but it was used and broken in. One of those gun makers that people either love or hate. The REM was really nice to shoot.
The s&w custom was amazing but it had a grooved bobtail frame and it landed right in the lower palm. Not very pleasant.
The first auto ordance shot just like a rock island.
The second one I shot was garbage. Jammed up on most ammo. Super picky. Tried different mags. Same deal.
Rock island shot ok. If you plan on shooting a bunch it's probably not the best gun long term.
If I had the cash I'd be looking at cz/Dan Wesson or maybe a Sig or Springfield. There's some really nice full featured 1911s they all sell. If I was on a budget I'd try to swing maybe a remington or Ruger. I've heard good things about both and the Remington I shot was nice enough.
The only 1911 really worth owning is a Khyber Pass knock-off
the only 1911 really worth owning is a browning hi power
the only 1911 worth owning is the dan wessons
The only 1911 really worth owning is a Wilson combat or Nighthawk custom, maybe Ed brown
