Prices don't really drop on old stuff At least not enough to make it stand up to the new stuff, unless you buy used , just new stuff comes along that's cheaper and better.

Pretty much every build could use an upgrade every 2-3 years. My 780ti was pretty powerful when I got it and now it's worse than a 1060 in most games.

And how much are you willing to save up? Computers can cost as much or as little as you realistically want them to.

Yeah, I'd make some major changes to that.

First off, what is your budget, roughly speaking? And I mean how much are you willing to spend, when you have the money?

And second, there's a lot of things in that build you don't necessarily need, like the 1000W PSU, DVD drive (unless you're actually gonna play DVDs and install old physical copies of games you own), the 900D (which is a case meant for watercooling), the 32 gigs of RAM (albeit cheap)...

And lastly the 5960X. I do have one myself, but I bought it used for a really cheap price, but I don't reccomend buying one new unless you really have the money to invest in it and you're gonna do some heavy video rendering. You could save a fuckton of money and get a 5820K instead of the 5960X. In most games it will only have a minor impact except for the really CPU intensive games like GTA 5. The main difference between these two is the amount of cores, but obviously the 5960X'es are higher binned chips, so most will overclock better too, at least with adequate cooling.

I'd try starting off with this as a baseline, and then make adjustments / changes depending on your budget and needs: pcpartpicker.com/user/Staeni/saved/CLMfrH

I did a similar build to this for a friend of mine; with the Evolv ATX, X99 Taichi, same RAM, a 750W PSU, but a 5820K and GTX 1070.

But back to the point of future proofing. While nothing is truly future "proof", you CAN choose the proper components for a good foundation that lasts for many years.

The main things to focus on which make up that foundation are the case, power supply, motherboard, and CPU. Since those are the components you can last the longest with if you get really high end ones. Everything else either gets outdated faster, is cheaper and easier to replace/upgrade/expand, and also evolves faster (for example GPUs have advanced much faster than CPUs have in the last 5 years, so it makes more sense to get the best CPU you can right away rather than skimp out on a cheapo CPU and a high end GPU, which will bottleneck you in the long run).

So if you can afford it and you want a computer that doesn't require huge overhauls to upgrade it in the near future, my recommendation is to get the best CPU, case, and PSU you can right away. Get a mid/high end bang for buck GPU, an amount of RAM that is enough with some headroom but nothing too crazy, a decently sized SSD (250GB-1TB), and whatever HDD you need for mass storage.

You could go for a smaller HDD and a cheaper CPU. Look for a better deal on cases, too, they're like 25% the cost of that one. Also, settle for either 8 to 16 gb of RAM, 32gb is retarded. Lastly, this seems like a better PSU compared to the one you have right now. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139142

"32GB RAM is retarded" spoken by someone who doesn't need that much. I have 32 and I can make full use of it when editing and rendering videos. Yes it is more than enough for gaming, but RAM is cheap, and having some extra headroom is never retarded.

Also, while Seasonic PSUs can be ridiculously expensive, they're the highest quality out there, period. Corsair RM series on the other hand, are another story. I have an RM1000 myself, which I don't need new cause I have a single GTX 1060, but previously had dual 980's so I wanted the headroom. And guess what, I never heard any fan noise or coil whine from the PSU because it was never reaching high/full loads.
