That is a horrible future so technology and this ability to communicate with people instantly is killing us. its what enables that collective thought. people tend to bandwagon things just listen to everyone else because they think, well they must be right if everyone is doing it. but the tech part of it, i once talked to a a college professor on a plane. he explained that this rapid feedback is horrible its the neuroplasticity. having everything so easy to access being able to Google things makes information transfer wonderful. but it also goes along with that collective thought. it degrades mental capacity as our brains adapt to what we are doing. and just being able to find the answer allows us to get the easy way out without deep thought that stimulates our brains. but ive always thought the future to be full of possibilities, is there any hope at all?

but i wonder what this constant hate of smart people is. in the past they used to think someone of high intelligence was admirable now society outcasts many as "nerds" and nobody wants that. maybe because some of people who are intelligent lack some social skills not all some, or maybe people are afraid of superiority not sure but its messed up
User avatar #18 - Lambda (08/28/2012) [-]
It's just anti-intellectualism. Brought about as the result of people being in constant communication and developing "collective thought" as opposed to independent thought. Instead of people thinking their own thoughts, they think the thoughts that are told to them by this collective organization of a billion others. It's long since reached critical mass and is completely self-sustaining. Stable, yet in a state of entropy which allows it to adapt to the current social climate.
People too smart to fall for it become outsiders. And it is the nature of the collective to abhor outsiders, anybody who isn't part of it.
The Collective is huge, powerful, omnipresent, and amoral. It's billions of people working (unconsciously) to bring about the downfall of society.
And there isn't a damn thing that can be done about it. It can't be killed, suppressed, or dismantled. The downfall of the human empire will come because of this, and possibly within the next hundred years, as its progress can be modeled by an inverse exponential decay function: It's only going to get worse, and quickly.

You've been warned.

Are you a half-life fan? or did you just use the name because of the lambda itself?
User avatar #33 to #32 - Lambda (09/06/2012) [-]
I am both a half-life fan and a fan of the letter lambda.
User avatar #34 to #33 - toxicdisorder (09/06/2012) [-]
You sir, are ******* awesome. it's only on here that I find people with similar interests as me, but sadly I don't know much about the lambda itself, all I know is that it's used in math, and I think it's from the Greek (I don't really know for sure).
User avatar #35 to #34 - Lambda (09/06/2012) [-]
It's a greek letter, the scientific symbol for wavelength, and the designation of a secret lab devoted to teleportation research.
