this man was armed, with stronger lungs and longer legs than the officer

seriously though, you can't be suggesting that criminals who can run fast enough should just be let off with things? the officer used the tools at his disposal to deal with the situation.

is there a relevant law here? what's the legal poisition of this

Not that they should be let off, but if his crime was vandalism, no jury in the world would agree that the cop would be in the right shooting him in the back as he's running away. It would be a fiasco. Taser, sure, but if he's out of tazer range and the cop is too fat to give chase, there's not a lot that can be done.

so is a cop supposed to wait for the perpetrator to politely turn around before shooting them?

Nah, this is just a font option on mobile phones. I have an android and it has it. It's likely that it was a screencap of somebody on the Tumblr app. Don't blame the tumblr, blame the fuck that would willingly pick that miserable font

He heard the cop radioing for backup and made a last ditch effort to talk things out.. He probably could've outrun the tazer, but I doubt he'd have outrun two more cops in a vehicle

He could have been long gone out of sight before the other cop got there. Then all he'd need would be a friend who could smuggle him to Mexico and he would have been home free.
