I've got an as-is $800 94 Camaro from a friend sitting in my driveway right now in great exterior condition, however the interior is not in good shape. I really like it but its got 260,000 miles on it, and of course at only $800 it needs some serious repairs. Are these cars still salvageable at such high mileage? is it worth trying to get it fixed up? I'm not quite sure of the engine condition, but I do know it does have a working battery. I don't know too much about cars so I was looking for some advice.

Cont. Now going off a comp its hard to tell if it worth it with out seeing it in person so below is advice on what to look out for, for just about any car.

The things to look for to see if its worth your time is does it run? (if not why) If it runs does it move? (if it doesnt, transmission is most likely gone out) Does it leak anything? (if so what) When driving does it shift hard? (if yes trans is going bad) Does it feel really underpowered? (if yes could be multiple issues) Are there weird noises? (squeaking, banging, whinning, humming) If so why

Being honest now if you have the resources or money to rebuild/fix it and you really like it than its worth it to you (who cares what anyone else thinks)

Now if your thinking that is it worth it money wise i would look somewhere else. The V6 camaro can fun to drive and will handle but with 260k it will need work to get back to a decent condition and wont be as valuable.

BUT its $800 dollars. Thats what some Bicycles cost now. I guarantee that if you want to get into cars that it will be worth it in experience alone working on it. Its how i learned, I bought a 94 Bravada (basically a Chevy blazer) for $750 with 220K on it. In no way was the car worth any more than that. but i learned how to put in a Fuel injection system, change oil, do my own brakes, electrical work, water pump, and change spark plugs. Learning how to do all of that was worth the $750.

Just a warning right off the bat, it is $800 and got 260K on it. Any car like that (foreign or not) Its going to need TLC.

Ok getting to it, looks great outside and im not surprised with the interior. (again fit and finish not the best it could have been)

I am 90% sure that camaro has the 3.6L V6. Not a horrible thing but being honest it hurts its value because its not a V8.

Now with 260K the drivetrain (Engine and trans) is old and tired, if it has not been rebuilt.

sorry more to come but slow typer

I mean, I know it's still a sleeper, but it's a pretty well known sleeper. Kinda defeats the purpose.

Yea i have 5,500 atm (saved up from years of working my ass off at wendy's)
Proably wont to do craiglist.... it will most likely be by sites like autotrader ,carmax, ect
Im just not really sure i would get what i want in good condition on craiglist without having to drive awhile to get there, plus not sure if people try to fuck you over on used cars via site like craiglist
Thank for the car advice i thought about the Yaris but.... it;s kinda ugly its my first car inb4 dont be a picky little shit....i just wanna something to show off to my coworkers that is both in good condition and a little nice ya know gonna have it for years to come until i have money to buy a NEW or a slighlty used one i really want

I like the RAV4 and 4runner
So far Toyota seems to be the choice
Matrix
4runner
Rav4
civic is good my mom has had a 08 civic that runs great (aside from fuse for the A/c that i think blew)
I'd love a honda pilot but my parents are putting up and extra 2,000 and dont really want another big car in the driveway ( our family is mostly honda ,Element ,08 civic, only car that was was a 1993 Ford F150 that was junked 3 years ago) and our drive is small and also scrapes the bottom of cars like civics. (unevenly paved ,its a rental house until we decide on the new house)

No i understand, especially if your paying for it. My first car was a 93 Honda accord wagon Which i wish i still had it though but the first car i bought was my 98 Camaro so it will stick with you.

Couple just other notes
With the Matrix its sister car is the Pontiac Vibe, exact same car just with a GM badge.
I would also consider a CR-V if your looking at Rav-4s
And remember the 00s 4runners are the same if not bigger that a Pilot.

With most of these cars they have timing belts and just more info on it
-They need to be replace every 100K with the water pump (cost is about 500 to 1000)
-Always just ask if its replaced recently, (some wont have it and the dealer should correct you but always ask)

Thats all i can think off my head, and if you have any questions just ask

small SUV (descent on gas, much more and good reliability)
Honda CR-V
Toyota Rav-4
Honda Element

SUV and Truck (above average reliability, tons of space, and low 20s to teens MPG wise)
Toyota Tacoma
Toyota 4runner
Honda Pilot
Toyota Highlander
Lexus RX
Acura MDX

There is a few i missed but good luck with it. I know it sounds stupid but youll always remember your first. Last 5k is a lot so do your research and if you can take a mechanic. If you need any help just ask
