Yay for the comment limit!

Anyway, yeah... the Coheed movie can fail in two ways. One, if they skip through some of the most important scenes in the story, and two, if Claudio doesn't make a cameo the film itself is a massive flop; which wouldn't be a surprise. Coheed have a niche audience, so that will attract a few people in itself. But, other than that, unless it is a multi-million pound blockbuster starring Tom Cruise as Coheed, Salma Hayek as Cambria and some other shitty generic overrated actor as Claudio Kilgannon, it might flop. So yeah, it may either be a success with crappy actors, or a failure that sticks to the story and is actually watchable.

Either way, I can't wait for it. Especially to see the casting, which should be interesting. Heh, they should cast Mic Todd as Domino. That would make sense.

Another good thing about the production is the fact that Claudio gets the final say in everything. So, who knows? I trust Claudio to know what the band's fanbase and what sci-fi enthusiasts would like to see.
#16 to #15 - KrazyKitteh (12/10/2012) [-]
I don't know how big the budget will be... again, Coheed isn't extremely popular. Another possibility is that the director/producers will use the story as an excuse to have sci-fi effects and explosions. That's another way people could see it; a shitty sci-fi movie with weird characters. I'd hate for that to happen to Coheed. Every time I think of the movie, and I've mentioned it before, I just can't help to think of the Silent Hill movies based off of the games. That movie went both unfortunate ways. It both completely screwed up the original AND it was kind of 50/50 with who loved it and who hated it. Needless to say, the ones who loved it were dumb teenage girls who claimed they love horror and the ones who hated it were either fans of the series or the elderly. It seems like if the Amory Wars movie becomes popular, the teen girls who claimed to love horror will now claim to love sci-fi. Great.

The casting will be fun to see, though. Unfortunately, I don't think Mic could be Domino, he's undergoing cancer treatment. It would be pretty sad to see on screen if he were casted, though. Also, what do you think the movie will be about? I'm thinking YOTBR. But Second Stage would make a kickass movie.

Yeah, that's true. I don't think Claudio would let his series get ruined so easily. And I'm sure the movie would attract potential fans who are genuinely interested because the story itself is super confusing and I can't imagine myself watching or liking it if I weren't a fan.

It probably won't turn out too bad. I'm just kind of a pessimist and I don't wanna live in a world where Coheed is hated more than they already are, or blindly hated, rather.
#17 to #16 - Mattyowl (12/10/2012) [-]
As you said, movies based off of games are very risky. The same goes for every form of media - base it on a game, TV show, novel or comic... odds are, it will fail. There are many films that have succeeded at the box office, though, like The Hunger Games, Batman, Spiderman etc - but all of these are incredibly high budgeted films; way more than what will be spent on The Amory Wars, most likely.

I agree with what you said. If it does indeed suck, all the 'teen fangirls of sci-fi' will rush in and claim it's amazing, while all the true Coheed fans roll their eyes. The worst possible thing that could come out of this is if said fangirls start listening to the band because of the film adaptation and start buying the comics, novels and whatnot.

That's another point.
It hasn't actually been announced whether Coheed are going to have any of their music in the film yet. That could turn some people away, thinking about it. Sci-fi fans might not like Coheed's music.

I feel quite sad for Mic, in hindsight.
He has gone through a lot of hardship throughout the last few years - drug abuse, a robbery attempt and cancer. The band hated him because he was hostile towards them... and that is what Domino is about. A clean boxer, turned corrupt who is foiled in a robbery attempt. You can tell Claudio still is somewhat upset about his downturn and departure.
#18 to #17 - KrazyKitteh (12/11/2012) [-]
It's reeeeally easy to screw up a series with just a movie, so it's the director's job to be careful. Sadly, many of them just don't care. Hopefully Claudio will be on set making sure everything's going well instead of just letting everyone else figure out his story.

For now though, we can't really predict how it will turn out. We might be able to tell a bit when the trailer comes out, but I'm gonna try to stay optimistic.

I'm sure the first song they introduce will be Welcome Home. But you're right, I'm sure sci-fi fans wouldn't expect rock in a sci-fi movie, and neither would anyone else.

Just look at what happened to Avengers. A lot of Marvel fanboys are pissed about everyone claiming they love the characters so much when they've never picked up a comic. However, I hope not to be "that guy" if people start talking about Amory Wars characters. Who knows, maybe Claudio will play Claudio Kilgannon. He feels really connected to that character. That would be kind of neat.

Half Measures really tells the story of Mic, too. It's a shame what happened to him. They tried to help him, but in the end, there wasn't much they could do. They had the same thing happen with Josh when he got addicted to heroin and left. They've been through so much together.
#19 to #18 - Mattyowl (12/11/2012) [-]
I'm hoping that the film adaptation doesn't affect anything whatsoever. I mean, things are great as they are... great music, great story, great fanbase, great everything. If the film is treated separate from the story it would be good; although Claudio does deserve the credit for the story and film (if it is good, that is).

I think Claudio may play a part in the film as The Writing Writer. Because, well, that's who is in real life - it makes perfect sense. Other than that, I would be happy if he just made a small cameo, really.

I dread the day that there will be Coheed fanboys.
A band of such quality is bound to attract them eventually. And yes, I'm just going to keep my nose out it too. When they are discussing how 'hardcore and awesome Welcome Home is', I'll just keep quiet and and envision myself punching them square in the face to cope.

I found a new article interviewing Claudio.

Damn. He seems like some sort of crazy genius.

Yeah, this movie will either make or break them. But I know that when I first got into the Amory Wars story, I thought it would make a cool movie or show or something. Again, I'm hoping for good results with this one.

I still think it would be pretty cool if the band's music was in the movie somewhere. At the corresponding scenes, of course. Like when Patrick's running from the Onstantine Priest 33 could play. Then he dies and the song stops. I think In Keeping Secrets should be the song in the trailer. But it'll probably be Welcome Home.

Ugh. Then people are gonna start getting Keywork tattoos. And on Youtube every Coheed song will have comments like "Thumbs up if you found them through the movie! <333" "Yeah man, we're One Along the Fence!" "LOL WTF is Mayo?!!" "Thumbs up for his hair!"

See? He even admitted he hates being called emo. Also all the laughing and "bizarro"... Claudio's so damn crazy.

Holy crap I need to read that. Thanks for sending it. I'll start on it soon.
#21 to #20 - Mattyowl (12/12/2012) [-]
After reading the story to Ascension, all I can say is wow. It seems perfect for the film in every way... it may be a short part of the film of the film itself, but I think it will work well.

As for the trailer soundtrack - or even the opening credits soundtrack - I think Keeping The Blade would be perfect. Alternatively, Josh could write another instrumental with Claudio. I always love his piano intros.

Hopefully, the emo and fanboy types will stay away from the film. Maybe there should be a mandatory questionnaire at the door about The Amory Wars and the band.
Any incorrect answers = kicked out. It is the only option...

Thinking about it, this film will be good.
I'll get to see other Children of The Fence at the cinema. I was amazing when I saw the turnout at Manchester to see them live.
#22 to #21 - KrazyKitteh (12/14/2012) [-]
I thought the movie would focus on one book at a time chronologically, like YOTBR first, then SSTB, then IKS, and so on. But putting all of them in one movie would be pretty interesting. It could probably work, too.

Definitely. Keeping the Blade, The Ring and Return, or even the instrumental part in In Keeping Secrets would be perfect for a trailer. A lot of their songs would make good trailer songs.

Or anyone who thinks Coheed is "Super hardcore metal". But it'll be fun seeing fellow fans. Haven't seen any yet, but I will.
#23 to #22 - Mattyowl (12/14/2012) [-]
As long as they don't try to milk a trilogy out of it, I'm fine.

There's so many songs I would like to see on the trailer individually.
The instrumentals are very fitting... but then there are others I'd like to see shown. I think Second Stage Turbine Blade cutting into Devil in Jersey City halfway through is perfect.
Especially the 'eeee Shabutie!'.
Makes me smile everytime.

I went to college yesterday to go to Media Studies. The guy who sits behind me, who I'm quite good friends with, starting playing Welcome Home on his computer. I noticed and we had a lengthy discussion about Coheed.

He is one of the 'hardcore metal' fans. Literally. He apparently only likes Welcome Home and Shattered Symphony, but he does follow The Amory Wars - well, he knows a bit about it. He is into Slipknot et al, so I wouldn't really expect him to like any other of their songs anyway.
#24 to #23 - KrazyKitteh (12/16/2012) [-]
Yeah, that would suck.

It depends on what kind of vibe they're going for with the movie. I hope they don't make it stupid by adding comedy/heavy romance.

Coheed just isn't meant for some people. I don't think the super hardcore metal fans would like something along the lines of "Wake up" or "Pearl of the Stars". But hey, Clown from Slipknot likes them, apparently.
#25 to #24 - Mattyowl (12/16/2012) [-]
The lighter songs are my favourite.

I try to learn them all on guitar. The first song I learnt was Wake Up, then Mother Superior and today I practised playing Pearl of the Stars (which is surprisingly easy to play).

Coheed are a double edged sword - they have the progressive metal type songs and then the soft dreamy type songs. Both types are great.

I think anyone can get into Coheed.
It just takes some listening to get used to their unique sound.

I don't play any instruments, but if I did, I would love to learn Light and the Glass on piano. That song is just... wow. Have you heard the Vitamin String Quartet tributes to Coheed? They're beautiful.

They have so much variety in their songs... no two sound the same. Well, except for The Telling Truth and The Writing Writer

Yeah, but it's really hard for some people. It's their loss, though.
#27 to #26 - Mattyowl (12/17/2012) [-]
I've just listened to the Favor House and Blood Red Summer tribute. They are great... and great to sing along to, too.

Coheed got me into guitar through their acoustics. If you like Light and the Glass, I say, go for it. Try to learn it on piano - it's fun.

Their sound really is unique. Some songs are alternative metal, some are soft and there are others - like On The Brink, which sounds kind of blues-y to me.
The Telling Truth is a great song. I love the Blood Red Summer and Everything Evil references.
#28 to #27 - KrazyKitteh (12/19/2012) [-]
I still love IKSSE3. I always sing along to the "And now we're coming home" part near the end. They played Backend of Forever really well, too.

I haven't tried playing an instrument in a long time, but I'd give it a shot for Coheed.

Yep. It's impossible to get bored of them. Did you watch The Hard Sell music video?

I love Backend of Forever. In fact, all the songs in IKSSE:3 are great, I think.

The Hard Sell music video is good. Although it is a lyrics video (like The Afterman was at first), I like it. I know almost all of the words to it already.

I'm hoping for another music video for Descension.
Maybe Sentry... I dunno.

What did you think to the music video?
#30 to #29 - KrazyKitteh (12/20/2012) [-]
Their first three albums are definitely my favorites. In Keeping Secrets has so many beautiful songs, too. Like 21:13, which is an extremely underrated song.

I didn't like it all that much, honestly. I'm sure if I'd never listened to the leaked version I would have loved it, but their lyric videos always remind me of Far's music video. But still, it was okay. I listened to Dark Side of Me for the first time yesterday. Descension is going to be so amazing
#31 to #30 - Mattyowl (12/20/2012) [-]
My favourite song in In Keeping Secrets is definitely In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3.
It's an amazing, powerful song...
"MAN YOUR OWN JACKHAMMER!"
"MAN YOUR BATTLESTATIONS!"

Yeah, same here.
Far is perhaps one of the only songs I dislike. The music video is odd and I don't like the song at all. I don't mind the lyric video for The Afterman. I thought it was well made by Claudio.

The Hard Sell's music video is mediocre, and like you said, it isn't that great when you have already listened to the song.

Dark Side Of Me, The Hard Sell and Sentry have been leaked/shown live so far. And, from that, you just know the whole album is going to be great. Even better than Ascension, I reckon.
#32 to #31 - KrazyKitteh (12/23/2012) [-]
The lyrics are really powerful, too. There's so much emotion in it, just like most IKS songs.

I don't mind Far.. it's not my favorite song, but I don't dislike it. I don't like YOTBR too much in general, though. I liked the video for Here we are Juggernaut, but World of Lines was kind of...overdone. I don't know what it was, but I didn't like it. It didn't seem like a music video at all.

Descension is definitely not going to be a disappointment. Ascension was beautiful, but I think Descension will be more rock based. I'll try not to listen to the album when it's leaked, but it'll be hard.
#33 to #32 - Mattyowl (12/24/2012) [-]
Most of their music videos are great. Here We Are Juggernaut is an awesome music video, very powerful. The music video for Favor House is quite funny. I love it. But my favourite has to be the video for The Afterman. Tells the story of Sirius and Meri through connotations. Very cleverly done.

I can't wait until February.
The thing is, I know I'll probably ruin it for myself before then. I just know Sentry is going to be leaked soon. Hell, it would be great if they released it tomorrow, as a little Christmas gift.
#34 to #33 - KrazyKitteh (12/28/2012) [-]
My favorite is Domino the Destitute. But I always like seeing young Claudio in Ten Speed or Devil in Jersey City.

Claudio seems to like Sentry the best. In his acoustic video, he said he was excited about its release. It was also pretty cool to hear part of the album version in their tour announcement video.
#35 to #34 - Mattyowl (12/31/2012) [-]
Claudio has changed a lot in ten or so years.
I found an interview of him in 2002: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysmU8eX46bE

Since then, he has improved his social skills and he is more confident, too. He was pretty much a nerd with a concept - and I respect him for pursuing it. He has always been humble - hell, most of the band has, since day one.
